I haven't had the pleasure of watching this yet, but I will now that I know of it; hwr, that being said, I ABSOLUTELY HATE IT WHEN A MAN SAYS, "I SUPPORT YOU BY WORKING AT A JOB I HATE.." yet he doesn't get it. It's not the financial support a woman needs. There's more to life than $. You have to support each other emotionally. Money comes & goes but love, love is a whole other creature; without support in love, then money doesn't mean a thing. It's simply paper. Love can't exist in a vacuum.
To be honest, I didn't like the story of this movie, but I thought the acting was superb and the directing too. It seemed like real life, a very flat movie (I don't mean flat in a negative, just like a day-to-day, slow kind of "evolution" we all go thru. Sam Mendes did a terrific job capturing that).

As far as I can tell, the only really bad thing Leo did was screw a chick, but April cheated too, so that cancels out. And why was she so gung ho about being a secretary in Paris? It's trading one dead end job for another

April deep inside doesn't want this life, although she got all the same by pressure of society. It probably took a lot of courage to do something else, it still does nowadays. I think she does love her children but doesn't have the energy to really give herself totally to her familiy.
The same happend to my grandmother. She got three children starting at 20.

I'm really sorry that you feel that way about this movie. IMO, it just tells the truth about what SOME marriages really are even in this day and age. The overall message of this movie is that people should only get involved with like-minded people and hope one party never change's their mind. Also upon getting married, both parties have a lot to talk about. No one should ever compromise their happiness to make the other happy. That leads to both being unhappy and resentful towards one another.
I absolutely love Leo. And Titanic, and this movie. In Titanic, for some reason I didn't like Kate. But I liked her in Revolutionary Road. This is my new fave movie.

there wasn't any trace of her accent in the movie.. but she was definately better in the reader. just because it was a more challenging role.
