i love this man and the things he does. check my profile for video weasel house. i cover his song earth died screaming. @ 3:50. p.s. buy his new album bad as me. damn gooood.
This was at the Paramount Theater In Oakland California: One of the great concerts of all time. I was there - single best concert I've ever attended anywhere, anytime. Three hours with 13 encores.
I could be wrong, but this sounds like the performance at the Paramount Theater in Oakland CA in 1999 (I think?) - greatest live show by anyone I ever saw. Regardless, this is a terrific cut.
excellent list!!....and I know it could be added to ad infinitum......just a couple that truly deserve,,,,,Robert Hunter (lyricist for the Grateful Dead, even if you can't stand the hoopla of the Dead check his solo perfomances.....a true poet of the highest order) Shel Silverstein, and if you include Randy Newman and Hank Williams gotta thow in Morrison and Lennon.......and even Zappa
I always like that kind of voice you know this is like how some blues musicians sang and when i hear this it was like "this is it" some other recomendations would be great cheers to everyone and god bless this artists (sorry if i had some mistakes in my basic english...).
This is not from 1999. It's from Oakland, April 96, a benefit concert for a friend of Tom's named Don Hyde. The whole 32 song set is available in a great quality bootleg for those who like to look around. :)

His voice reminds me of when you put a card in your bike so it hits the spokes.

The song that got me into Tom Waits. Still love it.

this whole album. I was 17 when Bone Machine came out and it totally destroyed my perceived notions about what truly rocks.

It's really sad that most people's views on Randy Newman are from Family Guy....
Hoglegvid 2 years ago
indeed, but i actually have heard his music, and simply must contest his being placed among Dylan and Waits.

I would suggest..
1. Howling Wolf
2. Captain Beefheart
3. Blind Willie Johnson
4. Leadbelly
5 Charlie Patton
6. Mark Lanegan
They are all really great musicians and I'm sure you can find a bunch of videos here on youtube of them...

God how I wish there was video to go with it... for me, half of the experience is what's physically happening on the stage :)
