  • ZEBRA STRIPES ON!!!

  • I see a lot of comments about Alice Ripley's talent. I hardly see any about how gorgeous she is. Can we just all marvel how amazing she looks at her age? She's easily one of the most beautiful woman on Broadway. lmao. I think I have a lady crush.

  • I've watched this like 8416805267 times today...never gets old

Does any1 know whether or not it's going on tour again?

  • I cried when I watched this musical. :')

  • I love Brian D'arcy James in this!

  • is this from off-broadway? because doesn't she like ride on a bed in this song? I LOVE HER

  • it was really funny for me cuz i went with my schools drama department and they had all just done "one flew over the cuckoos nest" and i turn around and everyone in our cast of our show were all like "heeeeeyyyy..." to each other at the cuckoo's nest reference

  • @mchammar416 That happened to me too, except we were just listening to the cd. Our department did Cuckoo's Nest for UIL haha

  • i NEED to know if that girl is the chick who plays maya on the suite life on deck 0:27

  • @010sasori no

  • @010sasori it looks and sounds like her

  • the end is really awekward

  • It's amazing but she needs to move more at the beggining tho.

  • does anyone know if they have or will release an official dvd of the show??

  • is this from when it was off broadway?

  • one flew over the cookoo's nest<333

  • Is this from before it officially opened on Broadway?

  • @sonny102 the alphabet she didn't know what ECT stood for

  • ALICE! ALICE! ALICE! ALICE!

  • omg this is like sooo old lol

  • @doggybone1994 timeless masterpieces don't get "old".

  • @doggybone1994 your mom is old. this is so new you've never heard of it before.

  • omg this is like sooo old

  • Who's playing the doctor?

  • what happens before this song? im trying to remember...

  • @NYBroadwayelphie What happens b4 this song is:

    !!!!!!!SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!!

This is in the hospital after Diana attempts suidice and the doctor is telling her that he wants her to undergo ECT- Electro Shock Therapy.

  • I feel bad for Natelie

  • Alice Ripley....I don't know how you did it. She said that during the off-bway run she had a bruise on her chord which was so bad her doctor wanted her to rest for like a month (and she didn't miss a single performance during that run cuz there was no understudy) It's so inspiring how committed she is.

  • @devoutlyimmature Jessica Phillips was also the understudy for Diana at Second Stage...and Mary Mossburg (sp.?) was at Arena Stage. I agree that Alice is freaking INCREDIBLE and unbelievably committed but just saying haha.

  • @MegglesLuvsRent Really? Hmmm maybe I am mistaken. It's just that I had a masterclass with her and she was talking about vocal health and she shared this story about how the songs in N2N were so hard for her emotionally at the beginning and that she bruised her chord. I do specifically remember her sayin that there wasn't an understudy, but maybe they got Jessica after she said she was having vocal issues, just in case. Anyways we agree on the most important thing. Alice is Fierce :)

  • @devoutlyimmature You had a class with her?!?!?! How did you even focus?!?!

  • @QTipbandit haha yeah it was pretty incredible, and I was lucky that I started recording on my ipod cause I was kind of just sitting there in awe of the fact that we were in the same room. Let me just say she is one of the nicest, most genuine people ever. Her advice/philosophy on acting and on life are brilliant. She could totally tell everyone was nervous and just was super-encouraging. Now I feel relieved I recorded it cuz I can listen to the recording whenever I get discouraged ;)

  • @QTipbandit Also, Alice Ripley does a lot of masterclasses around the city and sometimes in other parts of the country. What I do is just look up "Broadway Masterclasses" on google ever once and a while, you'd be surprised how many cool opportunities there are!

  • @devoutlyimmature That is just 2 Rad....i bet she can really tell us newbie Broadway hopefuls a thing or 2 or 100, hahaha. Thanks for telling me that, I don't move in2 the city til next year but when I do, to say I'll be stalking the internet to find a class of hers to take would be an understatement. She really seems cool, I mean anyone who does those hilarious and hypnotizing YT vids has gotta be beyond cool in person.

  • @QTipbandit Wait are you talking about Alice Ripley? She does YT videos?

  • @EnchantedSilence Yes and YES!!!!! she has her own channel called RIPLEYTHEBAND‬‎ just put that in and search and all her vids pop up, she's only been doing since since last year but they're pretty hilarious, some are only like 3 seconds and some are like 10minutes, and its just whatever is goin on inside her head I guess, either way its just too funny and great! check it out!

  • @QTipbandit I can't believe I didn't know about this. I must go watch now. O_O

  • @EnchantedSilence Careful...they. are. addicting...I'm not kidding, you will sit there like "what am I watching?" and the next thing you know, BOOM you've been sitiing, watching for like hours!

  • @QTipbandit That just happened to me. It was only 50 min of watching but still. She's a nut job and I love it.

  • @EnchantedSilence I know right? She's crazy and the vids be absolutely nutty but I'm a fan, I can't help it, its just something about it, something about her, she's Alice Ripley!

  • I just saw it on Sunday, and I have to say, they improved it with the gurney. CHILLS PEOPLE, I GOT CHILLS!

    I love her!

  • Alice Ripley= AMAZING!!! I love her so much!

  • the set is amazing in N2N!!!

  • what does Nat mean when she says "She trusts you" ?

  • @5934931 they are frying her brain and the dad is letting that happen

  • its so much better what they do now, when they wheel her around on the gurney!

  • She kinda flunked that second "I walked out" at the end LOL. But still an amazing performance from one of the greatest actors on stage today! She has such power and passion in her voice and in her acting! I can't get enough of her. It will be a very sad day when she is replaced in this show. I don't think there will ever be a Dianna quite like Alice.

  • totally agree!!! She OWNS Diana!

  • Wow! Awesome!

  • "Okay, LMNOP. What is that? I don't know." love that!

  • alice : )

  • Not bad... I LOVE the staging they ended up going with, though, with them wheeling her around on the gurney.

  • I Find It So Weird To Hear Brain Not Talking in a Scottish Accent :L

  • Haha, Natalie's lines.

  • I'm actually glad Brian left Shrek. He's so good in this. I loooovvvvve Alice! I mean, everyone in this show is unbelievable talented. :)

  • This production was in 2008 Brian left this because he doesn't usually like reprising roles and he doesn't leave Shrek until Jan. 2010.

  • he leaves next Sunday

  • Actually, he's already left Shrek. I saw it last week :(

  • @OneEyedEmmy :'(

  • Dear God I love her!!!!

  • Its bullshit she trusts you!!

AND IM CRYING!!!! acted the hell outta that

  • the show has certainly come full circle. i'm sure it was an interesting piece before the broadway revision but now it's incredible :)

  • No she's doesn't go flat there. I think it's intentional. The only time she usually has pitch problems is when has to hold out longer notes.

  • Alice was FIERCE in this song when I saw her last Friday!!!

  • What's happening in this song?

  • Basically, the doctor wants to try ECT treatments, which they explained. However, Diana is afraid that something will go wrong with the procedure. You know, there's just something about dealing with electricity going through the body that freaks some people out. "Didn't I See this Movie?" is code for "I know what the fuck is going on!" Natalie doesn't like the idea, either. Hence, "IT'S BULLSHIT! SHE TRUSTS YOU!" Don't know if someone else answered the question already, but I hope that helps. :)

  • I LOVE NEXT TO NORMAL!

  • Alice Ripley is THE badassest

  • I love this song, this musical, and Alice Ripley. She's absolutely incredible!

    Must...swim...to...NYC...

    <3

  • I love the melody change she does on "that hospital was heavy" to make it sound minor.

  • Amazing!

  • obviously this is wonderful but this is from the out of town run right? its kind of rediculous how much better this was on broadway. she said it took her a year to learn how to sing the show and this was obviously before she perfected it. SO much better now so go see her now! shes phenomenal!! (obviously)

  • Saw this show in NYC last month. BRILLANT! Who would thought a musical about mental illness could be this good!

  • "Your mother is in for a new treatment ECT"

    "ok lmnop..." HAHAHAHA!!

  • Great number, but actually, shock therapy is not the inhumane treatment that it's generally depicted to be. I know because my dad's a shrink and, well, he knows. I know it makes for good "theater" to believe otherwise, but it does kind of perpetrate mis-information about treatment that *can* help. Same goes for this shows attitudes toward medication for depression, etc. Sorry to burst bubbles. Go ahead, now; hit me with the thumbs down. :)

  • This show actually gives a pretty fair and honest portrayal of all different sorts of treatment including ECT and it shows how they affect not just the patient, but their families as well, for better and for worse. The playwright spent many years researching the show to make sure all the details are accurate.

It isn't just a black and white "Medicine is bad!!" propaganda play. I strongly recommend you watch or listen to the entire show. And yes, ECT is incredibly misunderstood by the public.

  • Thanks for your comments. I plan to see the show in September and am looking forward to it.

  • This is certainly not a "medicine is bad!!" play. It's very sympathetic to Dr. Madden and, to some extent, Dr. Fine.

  • Well in the show the treatment does work and help. She just choose to not continue the treatment

  • but again. not everyone knows that. so the characters most like don't know that.

  • yeah, but later in the show they say it wasnt ect that damaged her it was a mistake the doctors made during the procedure.

  • Really? I don't remember that.

  • Why should you be over 16 when you see it? I was like 11 when I saw it.

  • whats with the faces

  • Hey, I won't attack or thumbs down. It's your opinion, and that's totally fine.

  • I meant I would have given it to N2N. I thought Creel from Hair should have gotten best leading male actor.

  • "ok, LMNOP" haha I love that

  • jw what "movie" is she talking about?

  • Oh, I don't doubt that N2N will have a healthy run. And as far as costuming & tech, I didn't expect it to win anything in those. My real complaint w/the Tonys & Billy Elliot this year, were their "leading male actor" "best musical" and "best book" wins. I mean they beat out Gavin Creel and Aaron Tveit wasn't even nominated. Also, nothing about BE's book really stood out to me, and the same goes with it's music.

  • With that being said, there are many, many great things about BE, but I didn't feel it was strong enough in those areas to deserve a win. (I would have given best musical to Hair). But this is just me sharing my opinion, I don't mind that other people may agree/disagree with me. I mean, that's what makes theater so great, right? That we can all see the same show and get totally different things out of it.

  • But winning a Tony will encourage more people to see the show, which in the long run means sticking around to see another season. And while I think BE is a great show, I don't think it deserved so many nods. However, I agree that putting down one show because you favor another is juvenile.

And one thing about the Tony's to work in N2N's favor, aside from Alice's win, is their performance, which was easily the best of the night. Good performance also = more generated interest in the show.

  • Ok. jenn at 40 is so funny. i just about fell off my chair.

  • I'm kinda glad Brian left N2N because Shrek needs him to survive.

And I really like J. Robert in the role of Dan much better.

    Alice Ripley is fricken amazing!

  • when was brian in this?

  • I think in the Workshops and previews before it made its leap to Broadway.

  • during its off-broadway run.. then he went to Shrek.. Big mistake..

  • [bangs head against wall]

How did this not win Best Musical?

  • with you 100 percent !!!!! ahhhhhh

  • Two words: Elton John.

Yeah. :( I feel your pain!!!

  • The media decided that pimping out a story about a boy following his dreams would be better than giving a nod toward something real.

:joins in head banging against wall:

  • I. Feel. Your. Pain.

And to think that this will surely affect its runtime on broadway . . . my God. At least Alice won best actress.

  • Don't bang your head. It reminds me of the dance thing they did for Billy Elliot. You know the one where the boy ran arounf in circles and that made no logical sense. Yeah, that one.

  • LAWL, true.

:Imagines hot, charming dead people that make me have a hard time coming to terms with the fact that they are "not there":

  • i literally cried

billy elliot didnt deserve to win. it should have been like avenue q winning instead of wicked (even though wicked should have won, but regardless) the little show that could, the original musical, should have won. fuck you SIR elton john.

  • SO glad j. robert spencer replaced brian. what a difference! and the sets/ stage placement have improved greatly! next to normal is amazing-- if u haven't already seen it, go see it!

  • Brian is BADASS. Just for the record. I really like J Robert Spencer, but Brian does "losing it" really, really well.

  • Anyone have a bootleg of N2N? If you do, message me and we can work out a trade! :)

  • fierce, INDEED.

  • So amazing, I really can't wait to see this.

  • She is amazing!

  • I'm obsessed with the way Alice pronounces words.

    Like 'sociopath,' and 'Sylvia Plath.'

    She is so fiercee.

  • she is fierce. hey that's the first time i've ever said the word fierce! and that's the second!

  • TITLE OF SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    respect.

  • me too! It keeps playing over and over in my head

  • This makes me miss Brian alotalotalotalot

  • This is amazing.

  • oh my god phenomenal
