Wendel Clark put on some of the sickest hits ever! He hit a guy once bring a puck up from around the back of the net, and he just skated into the dude, didn't jump, or cross check or anything, just used his frame and skated into the dude, it was the absoultely sickest hit I've ever seen!

It' called interference. The pass receiver had already touched the puck by the time Clark made contact. Not only that, but Clark covered 15 feet of ice after the pass receiver touched the puck. Clearly interference by the rule book. Anybody who can't read the rule book and understand it needs to take a remedial reading course.

Ahem...NO! That is indeed INTERFERENCE. You can hit a player who last touched the puck, even after the puck leaves his stick, but it's to the ref's discretion whether the hit was "late" or not. Before the lock-out, refs allowed what would be termed "late hits" in today's game or scrums in front of the net. Not anymore, sorry.

That said, Chelios was a cheap-shot artist and got what he deserved.

But back then, this was not interference, it was widely accepted play. Nowadays, not so much, but this was from years ago.

Not even interference, because he was not trying to get to the puck. Interference is when you come between someone trying to get to the puck.. and the puck. Chelios was hit after he passed the puck. This shit happens all the time, even in last night's game in San Jose.

All I know if that was in NF / CFL that would be called roughing the passer. And that sport isn't full of a bunch of sucks who want to fight every time they are given a good hit. Besides, can you direct me to a video of Wendel Clark where he gets to the puck first then gets hit. I'd love to see that. Always the last in along with Cam Neely.

But, I'm not saying that is penalty in the NHL. They allow that type of hit unfortunately.

That hit is what is wrong with the NHL. It's late. Guys like Clark and Neely lived off these. I ruins the game because the defencemen are taken out of the play from a LATE hit. In football that would be a roughing the passer. If you can do this I'm all for giving the hitter a bit of lumber as he comes into you. I'm not just picking on Clark here because I find this is common practice in the game the last 30 years.

This was one of the best things Clark ever did. He's tremendously over rated as a hockey player, but this was beautiful. He had one of the best snap shots ever, and could hit and fight with the best of them. He couldn't pass, play position, back check, or stay healthy...or out of the box in critical times. But at least he drilled Chelios. This was Chelios in his prime playing 40 minutes a game and killing the Leafs. For a die hard Leafs fan, this was a miracle moment.
