I don't know who's responsible for it but they started with these "fluffy" clouds or the way the pirate in the SCUMM bar is drawn in the third game, I think. I'm certainly no graphics artist but I recognize a change in style from then and I don't like it. I also think that when they added the sound in game 3, it became a kids game. Game 1 & 2 are much more clever in dialogue.

yeah me too. I dont even think its nostalgia. I reckon the vector graphics look a bit too polished and clean. And of course these types of games are usually gritty and dirty, so pixels (or at least non-vector drawings), suit that more i think. Everything is done on illustrator these days (a vector graphics package). One good example of non-vector graphics is the google doodles or the backdrops from the original resident evil. Definitely more atmosphere and less like a Disney cartoon.

Tales IS probably the best game this year, but that's mostly due to the fact that 2009 has been an extremely weak year in gaming.

Tales is probably pretty good (I loved Telltales' Sam &Max-games) but I don't think it's better than MI or MI2. Just because it was voted that way on some poll doesn't make it true.

If that, then it wouldn't be as good as it was as a point-n-click adventure game. SoMI was one of the great classic adventure games of its time back then. The format of the game back then was what made it memorable, as well as a great story. Making it isometric would lose its flavor.

Why did they do this...

The old version looks funnier, had no "easy" way to get through (at least not that easy), aand had just more room for Imagination. That is like a remix of a good old song. And like that it is loosing its heart by doing so.

Ok. It is not that bad looking. But with this "not this and not that"-Version it gets boring. And I want to see them trying out to combine the items by having this long taken, and so complicated, User Interface and by using a Gamepad!

yes they need to do monkey 2. my only niggles with MI:SE, is guybrush hairdo and earring. Had they consulted gilbert I'm sure guybrush would be more charming. Also, the music, while nice, could've been done more towards original (f.i. forest theme). Maybe the musicians were to lousy in studying original. And they added the shipyard behind scum bar. The navigator heads eye needed fixing. And hint system is too giveaway. other than that its great.

yeah the problem is that you can't find the original game anymore and it doesn't work with most current operating systems. This is a good thing, means I can actually go back and play the game and like they say, you can keep the game on the original content so it isn't really destroying the original game.

I absolutely loved the original Monkey Island games; part of what made them so great was the fact that you had to integrate your own imagination, rather than relying on CGI to fill in the blanks for you (which takes away more than it gives). It's a pity they used the voice of that guy again, as he's quite irritating. The sound of the narrator at 12:01 sounds VERY irritating too. Despite that, I can't wait to buy this and look forward to the Return of LeChuck (by far the best of the games). :-)

I managed to complete the game a couple of days ago and really enjoyed it. The graphics were really good and it was great to finally hear voices with the characters.

The only times I had to use the 'F10' button were when I was transporting the grog in the mugs to free Otis and when I was in the rowboat trying to get from one end of Monkey Island to the other.

I would love to see 'LeChuck's Revenge' remastered.

i'm playing it right now and what i find interesting is how they interpreted the old version by converting it to a new look. sometimes the characters fit very well sometimes they don't. all in all it's awesome to refresh the former feeling of that point'n click masterpiece. the only thing missing to me is the 8-bit sound.

I have just completed The Secret of Monkey Island on my iPod touch. It took me 8 hours and 44 minutes. Lucasarts done a great job redoing the game. It available in the appstore for £4.99 for iPhone and iPod touch also. Love what they did, swping 2 fingers across screen switches to classic. They gota do LeChuck's Revenge now and more! :) Good Job

RECOMMEND TO EVERY 1.

downloaded in 15 minutes and was playng 2 mins after the download.

Absaloutly fantastic, great idea pulled of to perfection. The detail is quite incredible, the voices and art have added to the game so well and made it even more enjoyable.

It was about 4x 3.5" disks then....*sigh* I miss the good old days, so I'm really glad LucasArts made this Special Edition.
