Hello, I am trying to find a college with the right equestrian program for me. I have been riding and owning horses for more than 10 years, however I have not had the opportunity to gain much show experience. I am looking for a college where I can become a skilled and competitive dressage and jumper rider, as well as learn how to train horses and become a riding instructor for dressage and jumping. Would Sweet Briar be able to offer me all of these things?
im looking in forward on visiting this college... i have a question about the shows... can they compete outside of the state?.. like say do the hampton classic and or horse shows like ....Can the person do equine studies and do something else?
are there in collages like this anywhere else in the US? im a junior in highschool and im starting to look for collages but im really looking forward to finding one i can go to and take my horse as well as ride there. ive been riding for 5 years and when i get out of highschool it will be 7.. i compete in hunter/jumper and i do cross country. im just wondering is this the only collage who provides this? if not would you tell some others that do that i can think about?
@HMordiS You can absolutely ride your own horse (and many girls do choose to bring their horses with them), however many riders prefer Sweet Briar's horses because they are wonderful, talented, and you get more variety that way.
THey sent me a letter saying I should visit and I am not even in highschool yet. I will be a ninth grader in september. I really like this school and want to go here
One of the main colleges that i want to go to no doubt. definitely in my top 5. i love sweet briar!!! I want to go there so freaking bad. it's ridiculous. Go vixens!!!
@Portabella93 Sweet Briar does offer an Equine Studies Certificate and riding will count for your physical education requirements (as well as towards the credits you need for graduation) however, you are correct that it isn't a major.
Ohh I toured here this summer this place is absolutely beautiful!!! The riding program is unbelievable!! They visited my school today but I couldn't go to the meeting :/ To me it's the best equestrian program out of everyone though!

I have a question: Can you ride your own horse in the program or to you have to ride one of the college horses?
