This game was so sick! 1, 2 and 3 were good. 1 and 2 were the best. 4 was shit because it was animated but it lost it's feel. They need to remake the games for ps3. I wrote the capcom about this fucking game. That is how good it was. Graphics, game play everything was 5 stars for ps2! What more can I say.

It was in the original Japanese and sounded way better than this shitty English dub (I don't even understand Japanese) and was the reason that I ran out to my local department store (Toy's R Us had the only PS2 consoles at the time) and bought a PS2 and this game.

@capcomfan2010 Oni aren't always depicted as evil. Besides, they're mythological creatures. Look at how many versions of werewolves, vampires, centaurs, minotaurs, dwaves, elves, trolls, gnomes, etc. there are. Why would it be so weird for Capcom to try reinventing the oni for their story?

This Onimusha was the best in the series because it actually gave you the feeling of feudel Japan. The sequels ruined it with robots, mechanical animals, and being sent to the future. The soundtrack in this game is also in my opinion one of the best in any game series. This intro was also amazing although people tend to prefer the intro in Onimusha 3.

This was the first of two games i had for my PS2 back in 2001. It was awesome then, and it still is now.

I just wish more game developers looked to old games like this, that had great gameplay, instead of concentrating all their efforts on flashy graphics.

I like loads of stuff on PS3 and 360, but older games like this just seem to have more depth, in my opinion anyway....

i have this game. used to have a while ago forgot what happened to it. so i brought the essentials pack which came with 3 onimusha games for the price of $30. onimusha warlords, onimusha 2 and onimusha 3. onimusha 2 i wasn't thrilled. warlords and part 3 are great though.

Samanosuke felt he was forced to fight an unjust war; that is why he didn't kill those soldiers. Historically a lot of Samurai used the staff, short or long, when they didn't feel like killing.  Badly injuring a soldier will stop them from fighting.

I love this intro; it doesn't glorify war at all. It glorifies Samanosuke for the way he fights (he doesn't actually kill the men), but not the fighting.

Mitsuhide Akechi is Samanosuke's uncle. He's only showed a few times but you can find him other games such as Samurai Warriors. Mitsuhide in the game served Nobunaga, but later in the game season they turned against one another.

Seeing as it was Okehazema.. The Tokugawa were not allies of the Oda.

The Tokugawa had just declared independance from the Imagawas and practically fought Both sides..

Only reason I can give, the historical one.

Well I looked him up. Apparenly Samanosuke is based on a dude named Hidemitsu and he served Mitsuhide and he's the dude that killed Nobunaga.

So I dunno it still kinda does not make sense since Mitsuhide was one of inner circle until he betrayed him. So its rather weird in the clip that they would attack Samanosuke since he technically was still allies with Nobunaga at the time.

Well apparently Sam was associated with the Saito family, which was against the Oda clan.

Im not exactly sure, authentic Japanese history isnt my fortee, but if he wasnt an Oda, they would most definitely attack him because he simply was an outsider.

Samanosuke was Hidemitsu, yes. But I'm guessing this is a more Occult take on history, suggesting that Nobunaga's sudden take-over was "Sponsored" by demons. He did, after all, conquer nearly all of Japan shortly after Okehazema. And did I say he's part of the Tokugawa? Hell, he was part of Saito, but that came LONG after Okehazema. Or not really, Oda needed a fortress and conquered it, making it into "Gifu". Then Mitsuhide joined him.
