the craziest bassbook of 2010. I heard bluecoats even had a luxury-problem with the basses: They were TO good, lol. They could play their stuff super clean early season, so because they got a little bord, the basses made the music even harder then it allready was, putting more splits and hand-to-hands in it, crazy motherfuckers.
@salarmander That actually does explain some of the technique differences from bass 1. With the RCC (Blue Devils) tie, you are seeing more of a "West Coast" bass technique where the wrist turns, but not much forearm movement. Two, four and five have much more of a "Midwest" technique where the elbow turns into the body as the forearm turns.
@drumlineblog whats funny about this comment is that bass 2, 4, and 5 are not from the midwest hahah the only person in this bassline from the midwest is bass 3 hahaha
@kre8havoc thats how you gotta play for bass one so you can play in the center of the head and use correct technique, all the basses are using the same technique bass one just has to pull his arms back so he can play in the center of the head
@juliothedrummer I would agree with you if he was in the center. There are definitely other ways to play bass. There is no defined technique, but I think it should try to be as uniform as possible.
I am not saying he is wrong, but he just looks SO different from everyone else.
@kre8havoc At our school we use a technique using a different fulcrum for bass (uses your wrist in a rotating motion, like twisting a door knob), we use it so we are all uniform in our elbow angles. But It also makes our sticks almost completely vertical. It also is a lot harder, but thats irrelevant. If bass one were to use that technique to have his arms uniform, he would have a different stick angle than the others. Compromises must be made though. I like bluecoats technique more than ours.
@juliothedrummer thats the one thing i don't like about the coats. their top bass style, alot of them raise their basses so they don't have to pull their arms back. But their playing is incredible either way!
@rodnokker5 In the 2008 bluecoats drum break basses played slit 32nd's (: One of the measures looked like this: 12121212 34343434 12121212 34343434. I can't imagine being able to count the upbeats of that..
Is anyone else hearing that squeak at :33 ?
