  • why going out making and important and very interesting interveiw like that in the streets? Talking to the streets?

  • LOL@his name

  • he is right

  • Socialism is this: an industrial-economic system where individuals producing the goods (the workers) share in the profits from the sale of those goods. That's all it is; it has absolutely nothing to do with government involvement in the private sector. Don't let anyone tell you differently. I would apply this definition to some of the videos you've posted on your channel, especially the Reagan one, you might see things with a different set of eyes........

  • @jgarzilli

No, that's A form of socialism. Many socialists advocate the abolition of money, so no profit sharing either.

  • jjrglobal - Your answer is what I expected; you do not know what Socialism is. How can you possibly criticize something and claim that it's an inept system if you can't properly define it? Unfortunately, this is very common today in America; the media has demonized and distorted Socialism to cause fear/spread ignorance and it is obviously working very well. Americans are partly to blame because most of us are largely unwilling to take the time to research such things.

  • @jjrglobal - Your anger and intolerance of criticism/other points of view are digging your own grave; they are also compounding your ignorance. I am an American and very proud of it (born and raised in new york city). Calling me a "Euro-trash Socialist", is not only offensive to Europeans, it also proves the fact that people lash out in fear against what they don't understand. America needs strong and learned citizens now more than ever....................continued below

  • I have no objections in principle to a socialist society. My only complaint is that (and Karl Marx would be the first to agree with me here) you can plan out in great detail how a hypothetical socialist society would work, and still encounter serious problems in practice. The details have to be left to democratic experimentation, only broad principles need be thought out in advance. It's all academic right now, anyway.

  • @LowestOftheDead

Nothing can plan an economy as well as the free market where every individual makes decisions about every consumer product everyday. No bureaucrat can do that, I dont give a shit how smart they think they are.

  • @jjrglobal

Nobody is arguing for a planning bureaucracy, the Soviet Union was not socialist. The free association of producers can plan an economy in the absence of hierarchy and thus the state. Furthermore, the market "planning" is flawed, it gives wrong signals all the time and since there's no communication between entrepreneurs it can lead to over-investment.

  • funny how almost every comment here has a negative karma rating

  • Very interesting lecture.

  • internet was developed on gouvernement-funded universities and most servers run now on non-self interest-developed linux. cutting out "socialsm" from "our" free market (aka neo-liberalism) lead to the crisis we're struggling with now. before socialismus russia was even more behind in every category. in many points like social security the SU was far more adanced than a capitalist economy could ever imagine. btw, did you have a pc and internet before 1989?

  • you obvously didn't watch the clip, because there are answers to most of these questions. and if you're interested in human nature you should ask psychologists and not economists. but yes.. in the SU there was force and also violence. like on the other side of cold war and after the fall of the su. in russia the KP and all communist medias were violently abolished after 1991. left activits are killed throughout the free market world (with gov-efficiency). there's a world behind fox news...

  • @jjrglobal

    Oh dear :-(

I see you did not watch the video or make any attempt to provide a critique of the points presented in the video. Instead you simply repeat the same old boring libertarian rhetoric.

    zzzzz

  • Since you think you can plan an economy with bar codes and PC's, replacing the items taken off the shelf, what about innovation? I guess we'll be stuck with the same old shit, sorta like every socialist experiment in history. Name one socialist country that even comes close to measuring up to the US

  • i think my country, switzerland, comes pretty close to your country in exploiting the world for it's own benefits (although in a more subtle manner). but that's really not the strength of socialist countries, who are more into social security and health services. so the life expectancy in cuba is comparable to the us-standard. but without the desasterous ecological imapact of the us-lifestyle..

  • Do you really believe Castro's statistics? IF you want to look to the countries that have the worst ecological impact, you might want to start with socialist China. We all pollute to much, Americans just pollute more because we are the most prosperous and therefore have more cars, planes, boats, rolex's etc.. than everyone else, and I guess socialism would help that, since we would all be living in poverty

  • does castro manipulate the statistics of the c.i.a. world factbook? china's pollution is a big issue and is caused by the opening to the market. and we pollute china in consuming goods, which are produced in china. switzerland is wealthier than the us but we pollute far less than the average american. i don't even need a car, because public transport is that well organised (and of course state-run). but it seems I'm more concerned with rising poverty in the us than you are...

  • jjrglobal - your ignorant comments are simply exacerbating America's poor reputation around the globe. China's economy is not a socialist one. It is a hybridized statist/capitalst model. The Communist party has control over certain industries and the rest has been opened to private enterprise since the reforms of 1978. If it were a socialist economy, all profits from the sale of goods would fall into the hands of workers not the Communist party or proprietors/shareholders.

  • @jgarzilli

Are you sure my comments are affecting America's world standing? IF the world is petty enough to dislike America based on my comments then so be it.

What a stupid fuckin jack off you are for making such a dumbass comment.

Look you Eurotrash socialist, if you want to fuck your country up thats your business, but when you want to fuck mine up, its mine. Socialism has failed every time it has been implemented. It cant work it wont work, period.

  • jjrglobal - Unfortunately, your anger and intolerance for other points of view/criticism are digging your own grave. I am an American and very proud of that fact (born and raised in New York City). This is my country, as well as yours and over 300 million other citizens; no single individual is more or less American than another.

  • I am absolutely sure that your comments are negatively affecting America's world standing because they perpetuate the stereotype that we are an ignorant, self-absorbed people. In no way do I think that pure Socialism is the proper economic system for America to adopt. I can say that because I have taken the time to research its true meaning, strengths, weaknesses, etc. So I ask you: What is Socialism and what nations have implemented it, in its pure form, with failure being the result?

  • I define socialism simply as government control. The amount of socialism defines the society.

So perhaps I should have used the words central economic planning instead of socialism, but I was using the vids own words and the context of the vid in my comment. How did you misunderstand that?

With my definition every social order must have some socialism, police, military, court system etc. This vid is about central economic planning, soviet style, and it cant work as well as the free market.

  • Yeah the Soviet Union would have been a great success if they had computers.

The only problem is that capitalism produced all the technology we have today through entrepreneurs that were able to use their innovation to promote their self interest. If communism was so fuckin great why didn't they come up with the internet and PC's and everything else that capitalism has produced. Instead they were 50 yrs behind in every category. What we need is to cut out socialism from our free market.
