Well the Japanese empire had pretty much brainwashed the entire country into fearing the Americans. They favored death over surrender. Thats why so many civilians commited mass suicide after the war was over, and why Japanese soldiers continued to fight. @userwords Actually, Israel is more likely to nuke Iran (who would use them against Israel). If the deterrent did not exist, there would have been world war 3 by now. A lot less was known about nuclear weapons in 1945 then there is now, and the fact is that nuking Japan saved millions of lives from a prolonged war, a bloody invasion of Japan and their barbaric culture shown in their treatment of prisoners of war. They started it, and if they had nukes they would have used them.

By using those bombs we saved millions of lives, both American and Japanese, and eventually created a status of peace and stability between the two countries. An American invasion of Japan could have resulted in a completely different world today that would probably be much worse. Stop being ignorant. More innocent lives would have been ended as a result of a full scale invasion, even with the long term effects of nuclear weapons in consideration.

Well the Japanese empire had pretty much brainwashed the entire country into fearing the Americans. They favored death over surrender. Thats why so many civilians commited mass suicide after the war was over, and why Japanese soldiers continued to fight. Yes, we were winning, yes, we had for the most part won, but I just dont think they would have given up. Not with that mindset.
Though we COULD have declared victory without the bombs & they couldnt do jack about it w/ their busted economy.

Truman was not noble. He was a tyrant. He did not have to use the nuclear bomb. I read my history. You need to read more history because if you look really good the Allies were winning. They already destroyed Germany, the only focus the Allies had left was Japan. Their army was good enough to destroy the Russians, but the U.S. Marines along with other Allies were getting ready to beat Japan. Truman was just a hateful and spiteful person. He killed a lot of innocent lives.
