at 1:16 you can clearly see skin. now if wearing a balaclava it is to be pulled down over the neck and is tucked into race suit with helmet and the hans device there is no way the balaclava would be able to ride up this much
After the weekends action at the Falken Tasmania Challenge we have received a large amount of emails and facebook comments regarding an issue with Car 88 and the driver not wearing the correct fire protective gear. We are looking into this issue and will have an answer for you within 48 hours.
There's absolutely no question that he's wearing it. He's just not wearing it very well. As others pointed out, it's still partially covering his neck at 1:16. If he wasn't wearing it, you'd also get to see the right hand side of his neck at 1:12.
i think i may be wrong though but the rules for international races compared to national races are different which is why in '05 ambrose didnt wear a balaclava all year but got done at bathurst because it was a fia sanctioned event. So depending how they run the meetings these days it might not matter whether he wore 1 or not.
@TheHagman011 in the case of Ambrose in 2005. While Ambrose was clearly not wearing a balaclava during his first stint of the Bathurst 1000. And in his 2nd stint, as could be viewed easily before Ambrose got back into the car. The fact is that at Pukekohe in the NZ races of 2005. Ambrose was wearing a balaclava. So it was not the case he did not wear a balaclava in any races prior to the Bathurst round. Because Ambrose did wear a balaclava in New Zealand
After looking at this a few more times, I'm going to go against what I said when I contacted you! haha. You can see at 1.16 the black section at the front of his neck. It looks deceiving, but I think it's just been pulled up on the left hand side.
@780Motorsports Haha yeah probably, if you watch some of the other races at the end when he takes his helmet off, it's black. Also 2008 PI when he's about to jump in the car he's shining up his helmet & his balaclava is black with white or red lining

1:05 You can see that his neck has black material on it under the HANS device.
1:16 as mentioned by liamc, there is black material covering the front of his neck.
I think it's just that particular part that was pulled up somehow, leaving that part of his neck bare.
