Hopefully this is not true anymore after grave errors were made in the past, "junking" programs that were later deemed of importance. I understand the "junking" process largely ground to halt in the mid 70's but I have heard of cases in the 80's, and as late as 1993 whereby material was being junked at the BBC. Do people at the BBC not stop and think what they are doing, or at least question this action before carrying out such a destructive task?
@teddywinroth Perhaps you're underestimating the ratio of useful/awesome content to junk content, as well as the amount of content they produce. Yeah, sure, they kill a couple of gems -- but those gems wouldn't necessarily outweigh the cost of maintaining the archive, tagging each individual video, and so on.
First, just in case you think I'm James Burke, I am not.
Second I'll be away for several days, even weeks. I wanted to put together a playlist of random Burke videos and place it in the 4th section but I don't have time.
Eventually this video will be accessible in that way.
Thank you, James Burke for connecting the dots and helping us understand where we have been and where we are going. Your contributions to insightful understanding are incalculable.
Yes everything we do is for pleasure if we are indifferent.

This is a BBC thing... they tend to destroy all their archives every couple years.

Well British law used to be if you committed a
crime using the "threat of a firearm", it was a
hanging offense. Notice that it didn't have to be
a gun, your finger in a pocket would get you hung.
Then the law changed, and criminals who wouldn't let a gun near them before, suddenly
started using them and the police started
needing them.
This is not a coincidence.

@tyrbolo
Yes, there's good evidence that in the UK it did in fact act as a deterrent.
