  • As it was an SEC town all maintenance within the town was undertaken by the SEC. This cost of this must have been enormous and I've heard this is the REAL REASON the town was gradually dismantled and eventually destroyed. It was a beautiful town. Even though I lived in Morwell, my schooling was done at both the Yallourn High and Tech Schools. I barracked for Yallourn, who were quite powerful then (I absolutely hated Morwell) and played in the Yallourn Colts football team. Great days!

  • Great mmemories.

The opening shot looked like our corner shop in Chrurch Street.

Also good to see all the other shots of tghe town.

    Cheers David.

  • I was born in Moe in '92 but my dad has great stories about Yallourn.

  • Nicely done... some of the photos look familiar, Alan :)

  • Yallourn was dug up for brown coal about 25 years ago. The whole town was owned by the Vic torian Electricity Commission. Many believe the real reason was not to do with coal as they hardly used any the coal that was beneath the town.It was heartbreaking to see the town destroyed and there is still alot of anger and bitterness about its destruction. You can see more pics and stories about Yallourn on Facebook. (Yallourn Township site)

  • what happened to yallourn?
