@GIDAN2987 I beg to differ. I rather not shoot a 6 shooter in a shootout. You have 6 times to TRY to hit me compared to my 14 rounds I will be firing back. You have between 10-15 seconds to empty and reload your cylinder, compared to my 1.5-2 seconds I have to change magazines and rack my slide back and fire 14 more rounds at you. Don't get me wrong, revolvers are good, but I like to carry KNOWING I will have to stop multiple threats which means xd 45 compact with an extra mag in my pocket
@GIDAN2987 The holster is a Bianchi 105 Minimalist. It was a nice holster, I liked it a lot. Like the Don Hume JIT better, though, I think, and the Don Hume is cheaper. I'd recommend either, whichever you find works for you better. One BIG advantage the Bianchi has is the rubber tie down strap. I usually didn't use it, but when in the woods hunting, fishing, camping, it provided a very secure set up. The Don Hume isn't suitable for such use, IMHO.
I have the SP101 in .357 and love it. I have carried Kimbers, Glocks (19,and 36), and my Sig 220. Nothing else comes close to being as comfortable and as easy to carry as the Ruger.
@bigloc430 Yes, that is the 3" SP101. I really like the 3" in preference to the shorter barrels. The extra barrel length makes a very real difference in velocity, and an even bigger difference in how easy it is to shoot the gun well. I personally think even the shorter barrelled SP101 is too bulky and heavy for pocket carry. The gun is an ideal compact belt gun, though, and in that capacity I think the advantages of the longer barrel outweigh any disdavantage.
@WINDHAMMAN The best gun for concealed carry is the one you're best with. Try a couple out, see which ones you are best with, and go with that one. The reason is because if you hate the gun, you will not practice with it and you will suck with it. Chances are, you will also not carry it. These scenarios would leave you defenseless in a life and death situation even if your magazine held 500 rounds.
I am having trouble, not sure which revolver to get. the Ruger sp101 or the Taurus TRACKER MODEL 627 .357 MAG. REVOLVER. One of these will be for the house. I get a 9mm or .38 revolver to carry. Any thoughts on the two?
The Ruger doesn't cost all that much more than the Taurus, and it is my opinion that the Ruger is a better gun. The SP101 is built like a bank vault, famous for it's ruggedness and durability. I've owned a number of Taurus guns, always with very positive results, but between fairly similar guns I'll take a Ruger every time. The Tracker, tough, does offer 2 extra shots, adjustable sights, and a ported barrel (a mixed blessing). Shoot 'em both, see what you think! Both will do ya good, I think.
I'd get the Ruger. I still have a service 6 and love to shoot it as much as my 8 shot Smith & Wesson .357
Not a big Taurus fan here though. Seems if you get a good one you are set, but my brother in law's Taurus has been back to the factory several times for warranty work. They made it right took about 6 weeks each time.
Great! Someone that presents from the holster! (Everyone else thinks they will have gun-in-hand if they ever need it I guess) Anyhow, Kudos. One thing, I've noticed that it is also helpful to practive with OLY my strong hand... Not using the weak hand to lift the shift - Afterall, what if you were pulling your wife/child/neighbor out of harms way with that hand? Otherwise - Great job and keep up the practice!
Nice abs bro. U work out?

I have a concealed gun permit-I'm looking for a lightweight revolver for personal protection any thoughts or suggestions?
I'm not sure which is best 38 44 45 357
cool video btw
WINDHAMMAN 2 years ago
Im pretty sure you can use .38 ammo in a .357 gun so you can get a .357 and use both, I would say definatly not .44
assaultrecon28 2 years ago
@WINDHAMMAN If you are looking for a lightweight revolver, I'd look hard at a Ruger LCR in .38 Special +P, or a Taurus 85UL, also in .38+P

@pps67 You get what you pay for.
I think the only exception to this rule is the Taurus PT92. Then again, that really doesn't count since it's a clone of the old 92FS.

Im pretty sure Ruger is alot better quality than Taurus

A good idea. It's been a while since I've done so. I'll throw some of that practice in next time we are at the range.

i was thinking of carrying the sp101. how does it feel on you?
rudykuhn 3 years ago
It's too big and heavy to be a pocket gun, but as a compact belt gun it's VERY comfortable, outside the waist band or inside.
joecatsean 3 years ago
nicely done
