  • hollywood called they wanted Orlando bloom back,..

  • @ chilibro wow you are new. Your answer is no only the amp makes it louder like 100 watts is louder than 50 watts because bigger speaker if it's digital and more electricity :) hope it helps

  • could different pick ups make the guitar louder, im new to guitar playing so i dont know

  • @chilibro ya the pickups will definitely make a difference in volume. EMG pickups have a lot higher output and would be a lot louder than say a pickup you'd find in a fender jaguar, which have a fairly low output. The whole point of higher output pickups is to push the front end of the amp harder to get more distortion, the only way this can happen is if the pickups signal is louder. Its not just the amp that makes you louder, different pickups, pedals and playing harder will affect your volume.

  • Les was breaking up with Mary. He figured it would be best not having his name on the sg. More for money reasons, not so much that he didn't like the look. Just another story I heard.

  • this i why i only watch Phil X reviews

  • Thank you for watching our video; a generic overview of what every single gibson has, hosted by Captain Howard Obvious

  • The Beatles used that for sgt. peppers lonely hearts club band, right?

  • I've played about 3-4 different SGs and I love them!

  • i also wonder if french people read les pauls as "the pauls"

  • People stop knocking someone who's playing guitar. What do you want, shredding, tapping, some Jimmy page licks so you can say the guy is no Jimmy page? It takes a lot to pick up an instrument, any instrument & get something out of it.

  • Your SG is darker than the usual heritage cherry what colour is that?

  • hello , i am a david gilmour, john mayer look alike. I will bore you with jargon for about 8 minutes.. I am a fucken bore and can barely play.. Thanks for watching.

  • Its the 2 nd year in a row that Epiphone has Top'd Gibson for best sg's last year 2010 Epiphone G-400 standard 1962 sg was preferd over the Gibson standard sg by pro guitarist. According to the USA Consumer Report. Now 2011 its Epi's 1961 sg over Gibsons

  • @stratdem

those "pro" guitarists must have been going deaf. the tone on the dpi g-400 is WAY thinner than the real thing you get with a gibby.

don't take my word for it. search the many dpi g-400 reviews on youtube and listen for yourself.

  • Theres only 2 guitar companys in the world that make real Endorsed les pauls and sg's they are Gibson USA And Epiphone period! I became a Epi man last year when i was handed me a 2010 Epi G-400 standard 1962 sg thats all it took. Epiphone For Life!

  • one of the simplest and baddest guitars in the world.

it's not a basic rock machine... it's the ULTIMATE Rock Machine!

  • Les Paul didnt like it because it looks like the devil.

  • LIKKE YOUR VIDS

  • im getting one for christmas :O

  • he looks like jackblack LOL

  • Other than having two extra frets, there any real difference between a guitar with 22 frets and one with 24 frets?

  • @aflory2000 The neck tends to be longer. :P

  • @aflory2000

the pickups will be an inch or so lower than they would be on a les paul or sg, so the sound will be different. It will sound like a guitar though, but not like a les paul, or fender or whatever

  • I really like when guitar reviewers speak more than they play. "sooo this is the bridge pick-up... but sooome people call it the treble pickup" :( CRAP wasted 8 minutes :( a better topic to discuss would be the difference between a Special and a Standard version of this guitar.

  • @sndgarden theres really not much of a difference, there might not be a binding on the special, and the pickups are different i think. also the special has dot inlays and not the trapezoids. and i think the special is slightly more satin-like in the finish department, but i have never held or played one so i'm not sure.

  • Great video. Thanks.

  • damn you look like Marty!

  • the guy who never takes off his hat and yells over this guy at the beginning is so fucking annoying

  • This guy sucks!

  • Picking mine up in a week. Can't wait.

  • Great info and explanation about the sg here !!

  • guys I need suggestions on what to get either the sg or a telecaster.I play beatles but idk about the tone.anybody?????

  • @TheStormtrooperrr Hi there ! If you want to play that typical "old school" Beatles sound i`d prefer you should get a telecaster (or even better a rickenbacker!) Guitar and a Vox ac30 or ac15 amp , but it all depends on what budget you have.

  • @TheStormtrooperrr

Get a Epiphone Casino (if you havn't already)

  • u forgot robby kreiger......... just sayin

  • Thanks! now im ready to buy it! ;)

  • you cant do a demo for a guitar where you have changed the humbuckers. we cant heare how it really sounds?

  • @TheJonas06 changing the pickups doesn't make as much of a difference as you might think. you can still hear how the guitar sounds. pickups generally affect the quality of the sound, and the output, but not the physical characteristics of a guitar's natural tone.

  • Special guitar =D not solid! pete townsend believed it was perfect to play rock, back in the seventies

  • the SON of Jack Black??? O.o

  • @FreeTalkLive fender amps are damn good

  • I just got a brand new SG for £750 which is a good deal seeing as they are usually 1 grand.

  • Never plug an SG into a Fender amp.

  • @FreeTalkLive why not.. will it explode?...

  • is it just me or does the SG seem like the most versatile guitar on the market?

  • Comment removed

  • sg= best fucking guitar in the world!

  • Is Standard lighter than Special?

Does anybody here know the weight difference?

    Thanks.

  • I want this guitar. ):

  • you all dumb bitch who are making the SG Guitar criticize. It Depend on what player who are using.SG=Sex Guitar?satan's guitar?it look likes Only satans horn But its not satanic.Sex guitar?Even in youtube you are pervert.bitch. SG means-SOLID GUITAR! Thats It!!

  • @Patmendozabatas Dude.. Chill..

  • @lolicrap yeah dude,sorry for that word.

  • @Patmendozabatas It's cool.. That bitch pissed me off too.

  • SG= sex guitar

  • Hey look its Kurk Cobain....oh wait, no it isnt!

  • SG=Satan's Guitar.

  • SG = super guitar

  • Play already! And while you are at it, try to get some tone!

  • David,

I've seen people wrap their strings around the stopbar tailpiece on their SG's and LP's. What exactly does that do? Thanks in advance.

  • @hawg427 it doesnt really affect the tone... but it does affect the feel of the strings... having them wrapped over the top of the stopbar reduces the angle the strings are set at between the stop bar and the bridge... i think it affects the tension and maybe makes it easier to bend?

i havent tried it yet because i dont have a gibson (i have a 1990 Charvel-Jackson floyd rose bridge guits), but im definately getting an SG soon :D so i'll try it then for ya :)

  • @o0o0MuseR0o0o The strings gets less tension but lose some sustain.

Sg; Sbilanciatissime nelle standard..ho trovato pace nelle custom, bilanciata e perfetta..

  • Hello.

I look a bit like David Gilmore and I would like to bore you with a lot of blah.. blah blah about this guitar as if no one had ever heard of a Gibson SG.

Just play the fucking guitar already!

This is not a new guitar and no one gives a damn about what Les Paul thought of it at this point.

The SG has proved it self in the history of rock by now you know so stop playing to the 12 year old crowd or pretending that this is Wikipedia.

  • @Philtration haha yes he does looks like him...

  • @Philtration I thought the video was great, so did at least 255 others. I think you should keep your stupid opinions to yourself.

  • @GenitalElectric The number of thumbs up does not make this a better video. Anyone can vote thumbs up including you. Justin Bieber gets a lot of views too but he is still shit.

This guy also claims that on most guitars the body attaches to the neck at the 12th fret.

If you believe that then you know nothing about guitars and that explains why you are so smitten with this rambling demo.

  • nice bluesy les paul sound!

  • SG = Super Gibson

  • YES! Play it with Marshall!

  • SG= Satans Guitar

  • @fguka SANTAS guitar!

  • @fguka thats what i thought originally also, but it does in fact stand for solid guitar

  • jack black's soon

  • to me it sounds muddy as hell. is the tone rolled off?

  • i might get an SG standard but will probs put the pickups on my epi les paul nd but a gibson dirty fingers at the bridge nd a gibson 496r at the neck

  • eeeeeh. i know this is a great guitar but something's wrong with your overdrive tone man. way too trebley and kinda fuzzy instead of commanding

  • i want a sg really bad but cant afford one =[

  • @maplegodx150 Get an epiphone SG and switch out the pickups :D

My friend got a Gibson SG and I settled on the Gibson LP but I got an Epi SG and it's really good!

  • hi does this guitar come with a cable?

  • @zaktan415 If you're the kind of person that is buying a guitar like this, you've obviously been playing a while. So... you shouldn't have to ask that question.

  • @dragonmas yes, but i only play acoustic for now, so i dont know shit bout electric packaging.

  • I had a dream once... I Played a Hardrock concert with this guitar in a Schoolboy Uniform... Crazy dream hah... Weird right :P

  • I use a quality Epiphone copy, great guitar, gonna buy new pickups though(Not that the stocks are bad it's just that I like to mod).

  • Its PhilX on a super chill pill, lol

  • @TheChrisHimself

The only thing missing is his "Tittles and Beer" shirt lol

  • @CCRockit HAHA Yeah I know

  • @TheChrisHimself haha! PhilX, god love 'em, really gets on my nerves now.

  • @TheChrisHimself this guy is the son of jack black and phil x

  • he looks like a mature version of jack black lol

  • I am considering getting an agile Valkyrie, which is an SG style guitar and it's suppose to be much better than an epiphone g400.

  • @LittleEmoBoy001 I'd go with the Gibson Sg, or the Epi g400. I have a Gibson Sg and its awesome from blues to metal. Its my baby. I had a g400 but ended up selling it for a Dean shadow ML. so if you can afford it, go with the Gibson. Dean guitars kick ass too. peacee

  • @gamari4354

Do you know what an agile guitar is? They are all hand made guitars from korea of much higher quality than they cost. The epiphones are made in a factory in china. I can get an agile for 400$ which is on par with a gibson of 1200$ fact. Check them out.

  • @LittleEmoBoy001 yea I've heard of them. the Valkyrie is only a Gibson copy, hence the Sg style, where do you think they got the idea of that shape? stealing it from Gibson. yeah the Agile guitar sounds good, but nothings better that a handmade Gibson guitar made in America. Yeah, their cheaper, sure.. but... " you get for what you pay for"

  • @gamari4354

the caveat ;you get what you paid for' applies to most guitars but not agile. a 400$ agile is easily worth the same as a 1000$ gibson.

  • @LittleEmoBoy001 sure get want you want. its personal taste anyways. i just know im really happy with my gibson.

  • I'm a big fan of Gibson SG''s but, dude. really? those pickups aren't that great

  • always agree with les paul on this thing. its just always a thin sound! tony iommi probably got the best sound and that wasn't the best.

  • @MrJims55 You are completely wrong. This guitar has a very FAT warm and strong sound. I have one and I can tell you, it is nothing like a thin sound coming out of it. It has a heavy, fat, full sound. the sustain is incredible, too. Les Pauls are also great, but too heavy for the exact same sound it has compared to SGs.

  • i like more the sg in white finish =)

  • @blackmetalcreed They're hard as balls to come by!

  • Sounds kinda muddy.

  • that's the cheap pickup's he installed

  • Hi !!

I would be great if you could review more Gibson SG's.

I know that there is many SG reviews but your reviews is surely the best !!!

    Best Regards from Denmark !!!

  • i love this guitar more than my stagestar ibanez!!!!!!

  • The woman tone

  • The guitar that recorded Stairway To Heaven. Love the Sg's!

  • @KonChul actually it was recorded on an eds 1275 a double neck SG with 12 strings on the top neck and 6 on the bottom

  • @animaniacsrule Yeah, still it was an SG!

  • @animaniacsrule He actually used that for live permormance, i dont know the acoustic but he recorded the electric parts on a 1958 fender telecaster

  • @animaniacsrule it was not, it was recorded on a fender telecaster for the solo and a fender XII for the rhythm and chorus.

  • this guy is awful at showing off rock guitars

  • I clicked this vid only cause i thought tat's jack black on the screen)))

  • the sg was not ment for metal it is not a metal guitar to proove that eric clapton used it to record the original crossroads and does that sound like metal? NO!!!!!!

  • I do prefer the Gibson neck scale and raius over the Fender. In fact a 16"+ radius would be nicer than the 12" IMHO.

  • is that gibson sg special or standard?

  • @lpavletinet thats a standard i have one too. you can tell cuz it has trapezoid inlays instead of dots and the headstock it says sg not special

  • What is the difference between special and standard?

  • this guy is saying what you can play on it, but the truth is you can play any style on any guitar, just choose the right guitar for you. let it find you, not the other way around, go to shops and play some.

  • you kinda look like david gilmour right when he joind with pink floyd

  • good review!

  • this made up my mind

  • Is this guitar Good for Metal as well, I am planning to go for a Gibson Les Paul Studio, I also Like the SG's However I am in a dilemma, which one to choose.....

  • I'd get the SG man.

  • they are both good for metal in fact they both can play any genre so i guess its down to your personal taste

    but play both

  • @aryasridhar well i had the same delima, what drove me to get the sg was that the studio lp was kinda plain looking, but its all you, i plan to get a les paul but not a studio, something of a little more higher quality.

  • What kind of metal do you mean? Well anyway, the SG is a little more harsh than the les Paul, but the Les Paul is a bit beefier. I would go for the SG though, because it can really scream.

  • @aryasridhar rh, sg's are good for metal, but not better than a les paul sounds witrh metal so id go with the LP

  • the pickups it comes with sounds better to me.

  • im getting one 4 679 bucks

  • that guitar just looks so cool

  • why did this have to be reviewed?

  • There is a dvd A Complete Custom Electric Guitar and the guitar there is made from cherry.Lots of tips how to improve your own guitar

  • How come that SG Standard's color looks darker than the Heritage cherry I saw today at guitar center?

Is the new 2009 SG STD Heritage Cherry suppose to be lighter? Because I just PURCHASED a Gibson SG Standard from guitar center today but was upset with the brighter heritage cherry color so I bought the ebony.

Also for some reason, the Epiphone Heritage cherrys were dark like that too. But the new Gibson SG's look MUCH Lighter.

  • I noticed that at the gibson showcase thursday. The right handed sgs were brighter, but the only left handed they had was ebony. My left handed Epi is dark like this one in the video. But i kinda liked the brighter cherry.

  • Yeah older SG stands have a much better dark cherry colour. I don't know how they can call new ones heritage cherry cause there not.

  • im buying a 1980's gibson sg from my friend for 800

  • lucky!

  • yea it's gonna be sweet when i get and sorry it's a 1978 sg

  • yea but it has some cracks in the finish from weather conditions and it has some chips in the wood but its an awsome guitar i got to play it

  • All that is just checking, it's bound to happen to a guitar sooner or later, unless you keep it in a room with a constant temperature.

  • someones ripping you off

  • The SG is one of the best feeling guitars I've played... but for tone I'll take the Les Paul. That little something extra makes all the difference in the world.

  • i got a epiphone sg it really nice i like it alot

  • this guy kinda looks like dweezil zappa

  • I don't think the sound would be so crapy if those earless dudes would know how to setup a amp right and use analog effects or effects that sound like something... also they fucked up the bride hum, but otherwise, this is a very warm sounding guitar that is overpriced these days...

  • I got an SG copy and i love it more than my strats and my les paul. Its horses for courses and it seems to suit me.

  • "it feels and sounds almost identical with a les paul"

thats why its 1,000 $ cheaper :P the "almost" part is what you pay for

  • LOL your name is awesome !

  • @THEWORSTSKATEREVER yeah, but most guys who buy a sg want to play a sg and not a les paul :D

  • @THEWORSTSKATEREVER you dont pay 1000$ more the sound but the name

  • @THEWORSTSKATEREVER u know, every gibson every single one is different u cant compare them cuz its a art piece they all have a different sound they are the best guitars in the whole world its like comparing humans we are all different hope u get it BTW nice axe i personaly like the sg in a white finish u know just cosmitic but i think it gives more kinda like a bluesy look!

  • @THEWORSTSKATEREVER there are some people out there needing this difference...

  • Dude .. at 2:22 .. Did he just MOVE the bridge pickup with his hands? LOL. I think you need to get your money back from your tech.

And the OCD does rock (note the Trower version is a little more dynamic). and the new Catalyst sounds great also.

  • its normal to be able to move them like that

  • dude most humbuckers are a little loose like that theyr normally easier to move if theyr higher

  • man, theres some pickups that move o-o

  • you can tell he's a classical player through and through, still using those minor chords and melodies, sounds weird on this SG

  • WOW I am amazed by the video's high quality:P MESMERIZED!!!!!!!! oh yeah, and also, AWESOME guitar!!!

  • i got an Epiphone Sg. best guitar ever for rock or blues, iplay that thing EvvRRRryyyy Day!!! xD

  • the treble sounds horable

  • Neat and cool design on that guitar, not so sure about the sound though...

  • that is among the worst sounding distortion I've ever heard. What amp or pedal is that? (reminds me of the distortion from a Fender Frontman solid state). It's not doing the guitar any favors.. Not the most impressive sounding gear demo for the SG, at all.

  • the pedal is a fulltone OCD i think he said, which is a great pedal, but i agree the tone is bad, maybe it is a fender solid state like you mentioned

  • I missed that remark. The Fulltone OCD is pretty well regarded from what I understand. The guy doesn't seem like a distorted rock kind of player, so maybe his settings are just all jacked up from what my ear finds sensible.

  • this guy does not know his les paul history. its true that Les Paul (RIP) didnt like the the guitar, but the reason he had his name removed was the he was in the middle of a divorce and he didnt want his soon-to-be ex to have any claim to the rolyalties

  • noticed that split humbucker in the bridge position, does your sg have any push/pul action goin' on? i wonder...l

  • It's a normal humbucker, I don't see a coil tap anywhere........

  • God SG'S have shitty cleans. Decent Rythm dist. tones though.

  • what did you play at 4:55

  • Fender Strat! With a HSS pickup configuration! Sweet guitar.

  • Now your talking My Language. Hi Dave! Good stuff new friend..looking foreword to more classical guitar man lol.- Best Regards- Thomas

  • i knew this guy could rock too ;) still my favorite
