I'm an all around player, I play blues and classic rock on my les paul. And keep in mind I'm only 16, and I love metal, and all the other bull shit genre names. But recentlly a few months ago I got my new schecter Damian solo 6 for my harder playing, and my classic rock and blues for my les paul. So it's always good to have at least 2 guitars so you dont have to keep changing your tuning everytime you learn a new song, depending on what song it is though.

Well it depends on what kinda squire you have.. i had the crappy starter kit one that came with the little 15 watt amp. Yeah it blew chunks lol. Then I upgraded to my Ibanez and I fell in love :P

Well it all depends on what feels good in your hands. I'd go down to a local guitar store and just test out a bunch of em. Personally, I would recommend an Ibanez, just because I use them and have had no problems with them. Also another thing to keep in mind, is that once you play one guitar for a while, every other guitar you pick up will feel very different in your hands. All it takes is time with a guitar to get the feel.
