Shut the actual fuck up you stupid prick! These people
Are not lazy, most of them are dying plus there's barely any space in kibera to build anything,
You muppet... How anyone can call these people lazy is beyond me, especially since the Americans themselves didn't build these 'outhouses' you speak of, they got their black African slaves to do it for them. I know your going to come back at me with a hate comment, but if you can judge, you yourself can be judged. Having worked aroun
Worked in Kibera for more than five years. It changed my heart and my life. This video takes me back... Used to work for Kibera Transformation and Development Program. They are still on the ground doing wonderful work. U may read more about them on kiberatransformation.blogspot.com
It is not a safe place to be.. Simply look! Just because people are nice it doesn't mean they deserve any less than what we have. Take a closer look the next time. Ask yourself would you eat, sleep let alone live in the conditions? If so, go a head and report back in a week,
I just watched an episode of Teen Cribs on MTV, where spoiled teenagers take you on a tour of their parents' gigantic mansions full of everything anyone could ever want. Some of these brats are 14 and 15 and they own BMWs that they can't even drive yet. Then I watched this, and it really makes you realize the extreme disparity in this world. It made me very grateful for being an average middle class American who doesn't have much but at the same time has a whole lot.
man places like these draw my greatest attention, however if I were ever to go to Kenya i wouldn't like to walk through places like these because I'm afraid what I might see
You know the situation is bad when the ancient Romans from thousands of years ago lived in better conditions. At least the Romans had a sewage system and paved streets.
i seen kibera with my own eyes. it was a amazing site when i thought it couldn't get worse the the robert taylors or caprti greens in chicago. kibera makes the robert taylors look like beverly hills
mann what extremly poverty. Here in Argentina we also have a lot of slums o favelas (here we say Villas Miserias) but Kibera based in the information there´s around is one of the most bigs of the world and when i´ve seen the video it socked me. Because here are overty but Kibera sems to be a place where the human live in unbealiavble conditions.
I´d like to haev a a nice coversation to anyone who lives there, for know each other, learn more and try to understand the exactly situation,
I was born, bred and still live in kibera! What some people are commenting is just like adding salt on a wound! How can u say we are lazy when many of hustle to earn a living, all the blame goes to the gov't! We try as much as we can but unemployment and lack of control measures lets us down.
@Logan7783 we say you are lazy because you are. Negligent filthy primitives who can't even grab a shovel dig a ditch and bury the trash or build outhouses. Most American pioneers were dirt poor they still didn't live like pigs. They had ingenuity and extremely high work ethic. You have neither. You live among garbage heaps and flying toilets for god's sake! That goes waaay beyond being poor. It would be time to take a look in the mirror instead of always blaming others.
I worked in Kenya for three years in the 1960’s prior to and after independence and cannot recall anything the like of Kibera ever existing. With the departure of the British administration and the Kenyan Government becoming responsible for its own affairs the population were promised a more abundant future. Watching the video I see that 700,000 have achieved it – Well done.
There are two roots to the problem, the government for not doing enough, and also rapid population growth.
The government should get it's act together, and the people should also take some responsibility with sensible family planning. Every human should have a right to children. But they should realise that having too many children will only make this problem worse.
Kibera a is one of my favorite places and favorite people. It is not violent, considering the lack of modern infrastructure (sanitation systems) it is clean. The children are bright faced not flies in eyes like media likes to depict. Everyone is industrious. I support organized women's groups there.
@dawnseattle Ok let me just say something: having empathy and understanding for a plight is one thing, but pretending there is no problem at all is very different. I worked in and with people from Kibera for several years, and let me say that the place is beyond awful. Children do have bright faces, and upwards of 40% of them will die before the age of 25. It is most certainly NOT clean, having urine and feces in the street is testament enough to that. So please don't pretend everything's fine.
@dawnseattle where in kibera were you? no district of kibera i saw was anything near clean and men i know fear walking alone at night there. i've met some of the most amazing people there but there are also some of the worst. it's a place of extremes and overwhelming to even think about.
@dawnseattle Clean? Garbage is everywhere in every pic. These people cant burn all the garbage? There is no reason to destroy the small area they have because they have no money.
@dawnseattle not violent? please, i have researched kibera and during the night muggings and rapings are big. Gang violence is one of the biggest crimes, people are so poor and they resort to stealing other people's belongings. Dont get me wrong im not trying to make out that it is a sick place, they dont know any better
I always hear about stupid wealthy people killing themselves because they lost money in the stock market. Poor people in african countries actually have a reason to kill themselves- they're lives are hell and they are in complete distress.
Thank you for posting this! I've been in Kibera and think a lot of people needs to see this to really understand what its like there. It is a dangerous place and I understand why a tourguide doesn't take people there. But people there are so friendly and it makes you kind of "like" Kibera (you don't like the slum, but the people you meet and their attitude towards strangers)
This is sad to see, but the people look happy. The kids look full of energy and seem to play happily. Not like the videos designed to make you pity them so you give money.
We just dug a hole in the ground in Kibera to find water and it was more than 1,000 feet deep. They'd die trying to do that with a shovel. We had to use $500,000 of machinery to do it. People in Kibera work hard but don't have that kind of money.
