the movie was great. one of the best argentinian films i've ever seen.
but i would like to know why the movie title is translated as "the secret in their eyes", when the correct translation would be "the secret in HIS eyes", cuz the title is regarding to the assassin's eyes.
@utubenotebanco Maybe (just guessing) because that would give people the hint it was refering to a male's eyes, and they wanted to keep it as neutral as posible until they had the chance to see the movie.
As an argentinean I'm glad you enjoyed the film. This is Buenos Aires prior to the dictatorship that took over in 1976. The scenography, the image is excelent. You see Retiro(BA train station) and that's how trains DID look in the 70ies
Tremendous film. Works on every level. The technical brilliance of the stadium scene isn't just for show: it's necessary to progress the story. My only concern is that the rape scene, even if it lasted only for seconds, was too graphic. All in all, a credit to Argentina.
the subtlety of the love story opposing the brutality of the attack was a true work of genius . for an experienced film lover it was exceptional . the nuances play so perfectly : a true work of cinematic art .
I love this movie! My favorite part is the ending, when he comes to her office and says he wans to talk, and she says: "Va a ser complicado..." Beautiful!!!

@ADHOK99 First of all. I'm not American, neither am I from "McDonald Land." But I might have overreacted due to the odious frustration I felt after watching the film. That does not, however, change the fact that this movies plot is flawed. A logical person would not succumb to such mild intimidations by a woman, if it means that he will be thrown in jail for life. On the cinematic factor of this movie, (1 hr54min), when one drives, his car does not remain motionless, which it unfortunately did.
@jichao12314 I'm not going to attack you for disliking the film, because everybody is entitled by their opinion. But what I thought about a man "succumbing" to "mild intimidation" by the lawyer is trying to prove what rape is really all about. He didn't rape her because he wanted to enjoy sex with her. He wanted to rape her because it proves, to him, power over somebody. The lawyer lady intimidated him insulting his penis for being "weak." By doing so, he got angry and threatened to attack her.
@jichao12314 I'm saying all this because it is proven that rapists are actually obsessed with the idea of power. So we're not really speaking of a "logical" or even healthy antagonist in the movie. :/
Also keep in mind it takes place in the 1970s, a decade in which Argentina's government was really corrupt and the law wouldn't punish these people.
But that's okay :) Sorry to add all this in if it bothered you. :(
Minutes ago I finished viewing this excellent film. It is now on my list of all-time favorites. It succeeds in many ways: the cinematography is beautifully done; interesting characters that are well-portrayed; a story that keeps you engaged from beginning until the satisfying end. It was the Academy Award winner for best foreign film for 2009. It is right up there with Lives of Others the winner for 2006.
La mejor película que vi en mi vida. Saludos desde Argentina. Estoy tan orgulloso// The best movie i saw in my life. Regards from Argentina. I'm so proud.
@Geezyone actually, we covered Sugar, I will have to repost the clip, i believe we just aired it on our sister TV stations. We will make a online clip with the interviews and reload it, I actually had forgot about that movie but it was good.
Great movie, however I struggled to find a link with English subtitles so if anyone knows please inform me about it.

@utubenotebanco The translation is correct, but so is yours. Su can be his, her, your or their. The killer isn't the only one with a secret.
larpman 5 months ago
@utubenotebanco because is not the secret in his eyes, the one who have a secret in the photo, is a man.

Just saw it. Stunning. Great plot, great cinematography and direction, some fantastic acting- It's all there.
Contains a lot of symbolism about two complete opposite notions of passion. By the end you'll know what I mean.

@ADHOK99 Not really. I was expecting a quality film, this one had obvious flaws. Flaws that made it an ultimate fail in my eyes.

I did't get it, who killed her. If the dude killed his own wife than why does he keep the other guy locked up? Excellent movie though.
