  • At 8 seconds into the video you see some buildings on stilts. but later into the video where there is destruction I didn't see homes on stilts. If they know this is a low laying area then why not just rebuild homes on stilts instead of trying making them float? At the very least if the water rose up over the house levels they could have a boat tied to their homes for escape?A boat or raft made of bamboo would be better to save lives I think.

  • This is even more dafter then noah and the ark, is this a sick joke cause there's people life at risk.

  • You are technically building a houseboat! FOUR (4) LITTLE BLACK SQUARES? I think critical issue what the pontoons are made of, how many you need (based upon weight of vessel) to ensure it will float, where they will be distributed so as to ensure stability of vessel. When there is a flood, there WILL BE debris crashing into vessel. How will houseboat be anchored, so it does not become a hazard like the other floating debris?

  • @OnePeopleOneChina

The four black squares are the cement anchors and obviously, yes, the critical issue is how many bamboo poles are needed to achieve flotation.

  • Were are the plans ?…

And are you really sure that with a flood the water level rises steadily ??

I'sm not sure at all that this type of simplified "boat" which stands upright with simply made ballasts (of what ?…) can withstand storms and massive floods. Moreover, what about relation between the depth of the flood and the draught of the floating home ???…

Then why did the local people who've been living for 1000 yrs there didn't implement such an easy solution themselves ???…

  • @vincent7520

The cement anchors work together with the poles attached to them work as a guide for the bamboo plantoons to rise.

  • Well Where are the plans then? I want some contemporary bamboo pontoon like structure to float on my never-used swimming pool. I live in Thailand, lots of bamboo here. Don't want to fill in pool/add fish (destroys expensive tiles). Bamboo pontoon easibly removable ideal :)

  • If you have to "teach" common sense it's not worth it.who makes the same mistakes with no progress for a thousand years? let it go.thin the herd.

  • Why is the solution "in our hands"?? Isn't it in Bangladeshi hands?

I can't solve everybody's problems for them, esecially since you make it so simple.

  • The floating house is a great idea but you will also need to address sanitation. Human waste and garbage is just tossed into the river.

  • This is something which truly need to be put into serious consideration. Bamboo is such an amazing and natural material...

  • interesting, why didn't you put the links in the sidebar(now the sub or below bar)?

that way you don't need to copy it from the video, you'd just need to click on a link?

  • this is so interesting. So has anyone been building this in Bangladesh? just curious because i'm bangladeshi, and i' haven't heard anyone ever build anything like this. I know someone who is in the process of making a floating house similar to yours.
