Those CRT monitors are just a pain in the ass, aren't they? It's at times like this that you'd wish you'd have one of those Dell monitors that can just flip to vertical on its stand. :P
Funny thing about arcade monitors is that it doesn't really matter which way you turn it cause most of the games have a dip switch to put it either way :P. They thought of almost everything.
Great question. I just went to the arcades last week and surprisingly, a lot of the machines that they had there were still using the CRT, the newer ones however are using the Plasma and the quality looks shitty in my opinion. I played "Let's Go Jungle" and it was on the plasma screen, looked like the lighting was bad and way to bright for contrast. I'll take the CRT anyday.
I'd have thought that's be a bad thing for an arcade game, since there's always a lot of static images and text like "Insert Coin" on screen for hours at a time, and that'd cause burn-in after a while.
My Enduro Racer machine has "Insert Coin" permanently burnt into the screen and that's CRT even.
No, you're right, most are LCD, I have a tendancy of getting those two mixed up in my head. The LCD ones look horrible but The newer fighting ones like Tekken 6 and Virtua Fighter 5 ect are running on Plasma I believe. The design ot the cab is totally different and the picture quality is amazing. Much smaller and thinner and very bright.
yea i know how heavy monitors is,that tv i record footage off of in the back room i think weighs close to 100 pounds ,i almost dropped it on my foot one time i was like you bastard i would rather drop you on the floor than on my damn foot LOL
LOL haahaha, I know how you feel. I felt the same here and was almost to the point of giving up on this damn thing cause it didn't want to go in. The part whre I had to remove part of the cage was a pain in the ass. The wife just looked on as my balls went shooting out of my pants from the weight. Even my own kid was laughing at the possibility to see me get mangled by that damn thing I think lol.
I can imagine how much the monitor weighed.. i had to swap out a 26" in my arcade cab a few weeks ago and it sure took some lifting. Any mysterious cuts when all was said and done? Happens a bit to me when working on pinball machines and arcade related stuff :S
Yeah, no cuts surprisingly but I feel like my right shoulder almost ripped out, hurts like hell. There is such a huge difference between the 26 and the 29, it's nuts. I had to take out my 25' on my mvs cause it was giving me some crap and I thought that it was heavy. Mannn was I wrong, Almost dropped this damn one on the ground. and almost went with it lol.
Yeah, some of them flip and can be changed quite nicely. Got something coming thats a little different than the shooters, another reason why I flipped it.
I'm really liking this cab. lifting the monitor out and twisting it almost ripped my arms off due to the control panel being in the way. Kinda gotta reach out and in.
wait dude, didnt you do a vid of that? Thats the car-racing game, right? I pretty sure you did a vid of that, but that it was really hard to steer due to the screen and all. Or is that something I just dreamt or anything?
Really nice that the arcade-piece was switchable, could've been a LOT of extra work otherwise! :D
suitable for Japanese vertical shooter.

It's great that you finally got around to do it!
Most 'universal' type cabinets like Candy and Robot have easy provisions for rotating the monitor, but lugging the beast is another matter!
In fact I've chipped the glass bezel on mine when rotating the CRT D:
133MHzz 2 years ago
Thanks man. Yeah, I can procrastinate from time to time. I really do like the universal feature though. Chippin the crt, you musta been pissed.
lukemorse1 2 years ago
Fortunately it was only the glass bezel that was chipped, which I plan to replace some time in the future, the CRT is tough as hell :-P
The glass on the face of the CRT can be as thick as ~6 cm!

Great job with the flip , cant wait to see that badboy in action

Yuo can normally tell the difference between the two because of the heat they give off.
I had a 50" plasma until it blew up last week and the thing gave off so much heat, I needed the AC on in the middle of winter!!!

can u change the tv if it broke ??????
