Space exploration also only cost a small fraction of what is spend on the military. So, if we stop making up enemies and start ignoring the few so called terrorist which thrive on our attention, we can stop funding military. Weapons don't make our world save; it's "not having weapons" that would make the world safer *and* free huge resources to feed the starving...

You can't open a parachute above 60 miles on Earth, and that is the atmosphere there are on Mars. And when you can't use - open a chute on Earth you can't on Mars, sooo......it's a scam, a show for the common people.

We do this so occupy you, so you wont have a chance to think for yourself or learn about real science. When Phoenix is moving quickly enough, the atmospheric drag really adds up, even at Mars.

Instead of "It's a hoax", try "Please explan to me." Chances are more than likely that it's just your lack of understanding.

could we land on mars using a zig zag glider technique? while a glider is flying into the atmospher, you shoot another glider out behind, in the opposite direction, thus cancelling inertia. If you do this multiple times, you can cancel inertia enough to land larger objects or even humans, into mars.

Phoenix's EDL took 7 minutes, but the MER rover's EDL took only 6 minutes.  Why did Phoenix's EDL take longer?

In the late 60's we supposedly landed a lander on Venus with a parachute descent in a acidic like 800 degree atmosphere.Its all horse shit!

The Soviets did it. Big landers, too. But then, they weren't intended to last nearly as long as Phoenix. They also weren't as afraid of saving money, and could easily "overbuild" the things.

Most of the Venera probes lasted less than an hour.

Check it out on Wikipedia. It looks like the Soviets lost quite a few of their Venus probes. Nowadays, such failure rates simply aren't acceptable, for any country with a space program.
