I'm a big british racing fan, we currently have frankel, so I always think we have the best horses but my god that zenyatta is something else, what a horse
We had Seabiscuit. We had Man o' war. We had Secretariat. There has to be a movie sometime in the future about the horse with the greatest "kick" of all-time, Zenyatta. I believe that Secretariat was the fastest horse to ever grace the planet (just by looking at the times, stats, etc.), but Zenyatta toyed with the other horses, literally. What a kick. The two most exciting horses to watch of all-time: Zenyatta and Secretariat.
This one and her win 19 against switch were two of my fav races of her's. Plain and simple for all the haters, there won't be another mare like this probably ever. Look at her. She's MASSIVE. She's got all the heart in the world. She's all that and a bag of chips. I want a trainer out there to match what John Shirreffs was able to do with her. Train them to run dead last, settle into the pace some 12-20 lengths off the pace and then make the move 1/2 mile out. And win 19 in a row.
@Kostly umm obviously you never saw zarkava then.she was a great mare but she wasnt even if the best of the last 5 years.i understand your a fan of hers but cmon she ran twice in open class races and won 1 time thats not greatness.zarkava crushed goldikova twice but im sure you already knew that.her highest beyer was 108 if that doesnt tell you something i dont know what does.
@Kostly Seriously. Beyers are a fucking joke. And the guy is so damn full of himself. It's pretty obvious that he just wanted a system that would always rank East coasters over West coasters.
The Mare is a great no doubt, but she could have been regarded so much higher if she ran vs the Boys more often, and not waste time beating the same mares like St.Trinian's who is not even a Gr2 horse in Europe. But man was she Regal looking, and certainly a Crowd pleaser
You name me a female (filly or mare) that was the morning line favorite in two $5 million dollar "Breeders Cup Classics", the post time favorite in two $5 million dollar "Breeders Cup Classic's" and first and second in two $5 million dollar "Breeders Cup Classics?
in your lifetime, no filly or mare will do what Zenyatta has done.
You'll be dead, in the ground and your body will be fertilizing and pushing up daisies before a filly or mare accomplishes that feat again, pal.
@westinniles - Besides what did I say in my original post that said she was anything but great?....learn to read and don't get your knickers in a twist!
@westinniles - lol. Pal?. Wow now your talking complete nonsense, because I recall Zarkava winning the worlds most prestigious race as a 3yr old, in hand and as the favorite at 12furlongs. THAT is what I call remarkable. Besides Goldikova is MS.Breeders Cup....4 in a row coming up, and YOU will NEVER see that again......pal.
It is still like she raced yesterday. It is horses like Zenyatta that will ultimately keep bringing people to the racetrack. There are Pletcher and Asmussen businessmen everywhere, but a true care taker gets the best out of a race horse for years, not months!!!
People tend to forget Zenyatta usually had to give between 8 to 16 pounds!!! Try putting a bowling ball on your back and see how much slower you can run!!!
@mlc520120 Good comment. Vic Stauffer talked to us, and we even filmed it, about how he would call her seventeenth win. So, you are correct. It had nothing to do with beating a G3 mare from Europe. If I ever post the video, you can tell from how Vic talked with us that he actually had no doubt that Zenyatta would win. He just wanted to make a good call when she did, and not bring up the word "record" since Pepper's Pride had the actual record.
@RailbirdFilms Thanks for clarifying, and I am not even a horse racing fan. I hadn't heard so much about a horse since Secretariat, so I became a curious fan of this rather remarkable horse. The call by Vic was just about as exciting as the race itself!! I saw the interview posted on your site. Thanks.
@Nucleo85Torino mic520120 is right. I have footage of Vic talking to us about how he would call the race when she won, and the G3 from Europe wasn't part of the discussion at all. Pepper's Pride and her record were. Vid just wanted to time stamp his call. Someday, when my software stops crashing, I'll even put up the video.
Says it all!...This Great Champion Of A Lifetime has brought us more joy than some people can comprehend...I really do feel sorry for you....Nothing will rob our joy or stop the Queen from fulfilling her DESTINY!!!
@AnimalsRock4Love...I applaud your enthusiasm but Shireffs (yes thats how its spelled) does not put the horse first. Notice how Martin Garcia is beating the living shit out of St. Trinians? This is what JS does to most of his horses. He got lucky that he CLAIMED Zenyatta and stuck with her. Mike Smith is the one who knows this horse, loves this horse. I've watched horses since I was 3 and she is the best I've ever seen, but its all on her, not John.
@madmaxxh0h0 Mr. Shirreff's especially to you has never beat any horse. He would fire any jockey who beat a horse most especially Calvin Borel on RA and MG on St.T.
Zeny was never in a claims race. Mr. Shirreffs is who trained, cares for and has ALL final decisions on Z including choosing Mike for her jockey. You are clueless but at lest you give Z credit for being best. I've been with horses since I was born!
.then get back with me... He is the one who recognized her potential Greatness. When he first starting training Z he said "If I can get her right she will be the MJ of horse racing ....and she is!
This was her best effort I think. With a furlong to go you could see her put in an extra gear and St. Trinians ran her heart out! Both horses had an incredible stretch run. If you ask her, Zen will go and she'll go hard all the way. I don't know if there is a horse that will be able to hold her off if Mike puts her in the right spot. She's got just too much length! IT looks like she's running against mini horses out there.
I don't mean to be rude but I've had enough of people putting Mr. Sherriff's down...You people should celebrate the fact that we have ONE trainer in horse racing who actually.(novel idea) puts the HORSE first.....I thank god for him..furthermore one reason so many of us allowed ourselves to love her so is because we trust him to keep her safe...
@AnimalsRock4Love you clearly just an animal lover lol who loves this horse, you dont actually know much about racing but do you? should you not be campaigning to ban racing? I know how much this horse means to ppl right, but dont direpect others by saying stupic comments like shes the best ever when you dont know what your talking about. Champion of Champions my arse. Nothing against ppl loving her, just when they attempt to say she is best racehorse ever without any fact at all.
@ashleycolemobilefone I have no problem saying that Zenyatta can hold hold her own over any horse out there. Until she loses, i think she deserves that much. Every horse that you have in mind has lost. And Zenyatta has had plenty of things go against her, how she is undefeated is almost miraculous. The weight breaks, pace scenarios and compromised short distances could not stop her. So yes you have your Secretariat Belmont, but do you have 18 of them???
@gomezisgod09 I dont see whats so great about being unbeaten against the same weak fillies for 3 years? If she wins the Classic I will give her much more credit because it will be the first real group 1 field she has faced in her career
I can watch Zenyatta's races over and over again, and still get the same exhilarating chill when she comes down the stretch as when I first watched it.
I do think staements like shes the best ever is a total insult to many great horses of the past who challenge in the big races all year long and then win the Breeders Cup, its not the horses fault but someone has to answer for this, its a tragedy, such a brilliant animal born to run yet isnt tested against the best
Why is this horse running in Handicaps? I just cant comprehend that. St trinians is a selling plater, beginning to really think Zenyatta is just a whole of hype with not much substance behind her. ppl keep dwelling on 17 for 0 but she just keep running against the same horses, how can she possibly get beat? Really dont understand how a supposed champion can keep running in bad races and avoiding the top group 1s like Hollywood Gold Cup and Pacific Classic
@ashleycolemobilefone "Just can't comprehend...": yes, that is obvious. Horses can take time to blossom, yes? Or thrive with a change of scenery, correct? It's happened many a time, to the point where pretending that it doesn't, as you are here, is disingenous at best, blatant ham-fisted trolling at worst. Seeing as how you flood so many other comment sections with this seemingly endlessly supply of this kind of tripe, I'm guessing it's the latter that's at work here.
@Venckman Oh of course, horses can improve for a change of scenery, and improve with age, yes. You havent helped me comprehend the fact that the best horse does not run in the best races? You can say what you like, I have a point and no one can seem to asnswer it. Shes campaigned to protect an unbeaten record which dosent prove anything. Say what you like, instead of insulting me, why dont you try and prove me wrong? Or can you not?
@AnimalsRock4Love Maybe horse racing is not for you. Zenyatta was never even in a claiming race. the cheapest she ever was, was $60k as a yearling and her value went up after every race. Please just quit the game
St. Trinians continues to surprise me. Horse doesn't walk or run properly and is half the size of Zee in the back and despite throwing a shoe raced to the wire. Both these mare have a winning attitude. The real difference is Zenyatta is a happy horse especially compare to BC Day. Zee is happy going into the gate and happy after the race.
