there is no music closer to mother nature and god and thank him for making something so beautiful i tip my hat after a days worth of hard riding its gods way
I'm writing drafts for this year's Nanowrimo. The imagery from this song has inspired me to name the country it takes place in Afton. . . Thank you Nickel Creek!
Im a 17 yr. old guy and I dont care if its gay to like this poem or not its just awesome, I read it about 5 times today in English History class. :D thanks for the video
it is most certainly not gay. since it is in fact about a man and a woman. Dismiss those who would tell you otherwise. The rabbaling imbeciles who would refer to poetry as gay simply lack the intelligence to comprehend it. plus women swoon over good poetry.
@belfairhaines Nail on the head my friend. The poem to me talks of a man who sees the woman of his dreams and loves her unconditionally. He is of lower status though and has no chance of being with her ever. So, he does the best he can and prays she is but happy.
I can't stop laughing...this song makes me sad and i love it but i just heard the lyrics for real... @SuperNotSerious thank you for making me listen twice
I seriously cannot quit listening to this song. Like someone mentioned earlier, it just does something to the listener. It's soothing, sad, and beautiful all at the same time. Definitely a favorite.
This song literally reaches my heart, it brings peace to what seems like and endless storm within. I hear this song and every time I'm crying. I don't know what it is and what this song really does to me, I'm my heart always wants to hear this song whenever its aching. Nickel Creek has always been my favorite by far for that reason.
The lyrics are straight from the poem by Robert Burns. Inspired of course by a beautiful, scenic river in his home county of Ayrshire in Scotland. Burns of course was one of Dylan's great inspirations with the poem "My love is like a red,red rose" and evryone knows his most famous "Auld lang syne". No wonder Nickel Creek chose to use his poem for a song and so brilliantly done by them. Have had great pleasure in seeing them perform a number of times here in Scotland, Burn's home nation. Awesome!
The Scots thought the River Afton was the most beautiful place in all of Scotland. When they immigrated to the new world and found a beautiful place, they named it Afton.
@SuperNotSerious U obviously dont appreciate great music and are showing your immaturity on youtube because you think you can, when people go to listen to theyre favorite song they dont want to c people like you as the top comment...so please just leave
@ImaDjentleman Dude, lighten up. I love this song and I love Nickel Creek. It's funny, dude. I'm sure if Chris or Sarah or Sean realize this or came to at some point, they would find it funny as well.
@deportpadro That comment in no way could be considered a coherent thought. You may want to brush up on your English syntax before you "deport Padro" because he can't speak the language; you've hardly got a grasp on it yourself.
We had to listen to this in history class because we're studying about Industrial Artwork, since the words to this were written during the 19th Century romantic era. When the violin part came on it hit me "I know this song" because my dad listens to a lot of music like this. My crush was also in the room while it was playing, it was such a wonderful feeling :)
This song is so beautiflu. I found it on a website, looked up the original, then found this. So happy I did! Plan on learning the lyrics so I can sing it! <3
