tried taikwondo, karate, and judo/aikido, and hated them all because these particular techniques all rely on your opponent grabbing you somewhere on your clothing that just doesn't happen in most real fights. boxers or martial artists are not going to walk up close to your body and try to grab you. they are going to punch or kick the shit out of you, and if they are quick, you are not grabbing jack shit. learn how to box or kickbox if you want to avoid catching a beatdown.
To any na-sayers, if you don't like aikido, give it a chance anyway. Go to a good dojo if you have one in your area, you will be surprised how effective it really is. It LOOKS like dancing, but when you get on the mat, you quickly realize it's a one sided dance. lol
@itsBlueSlims you're pathetic. Watch this vid watch?v=fy_a7xLzL6w&feature=related Seagal would tear your ass apart in a fight. Seagal trained Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida. Go watch the vids too they're in the related vids list.
It's largely showmanship. This video shows demonstrations, which are choreographed so that the instructor always has the upper hand. No one here is even meant to be nearly a match to Segal. I like the guy and think he would be a great instructor. He has charisma and his movies always show character in his role.
@Minatour94 The stuff you normally see doesn't have striking;however, when you take more advanced classes, there is a lot of striking with weapons. Trust me, it's a lot of fun. It is useless to try in a fight if you haven't perfected it, but if you have, you are a force to be reconed with.
Before some of you react, (Which you've already did) I'd like you to realize something. Aikido is real and a very powerful martial arts. I don't know/see why the rolling (To avoid injuries) Discourage you to believe in the art of Aikido. Aikido masters the disruption of the center of balance, it's using common sense and everyday movements, one of these common sense is using your opponents force against you. I'd like to see you people get punched in the face and move out of the way. Whats better
mightysuntzu, seagal is 7ª dan in aikido he is the best occidental aikidoka and if u can't see his proyections of energy then u should look more carefully.
he might be an american master, but i dont think hes considered a japanese master. he could probably be a sensei at the most. it doesnt look like he is actually using his gi(center) or his body weight to his full advantage. he uses a lot of physical strength along with his gi, which is not needed at all. as long as hes having fun though.
Uhm, Segal started teaching in Japan, and was the first american allowed to teach there. He CAN'T get bigger people most of the time as he is huge. Plus he's mostly grading here, which is why it was titled grading.
I mean, sure, you can criticize him, but at least get your facts right.

Why is it so hard for people to spell *SEAGAL.* It's S E A G A L, not S E G A L.

I personally don't like aikido because there is no striking, but for some it can be a very powerful martial art.
