Do the unexpected. Within a few seconds of seeing the repetitive patterns of diagonal striking I'd have gone over the top and struck down straight down on the oppo's head or crouched gown and struck upwards to the gonads- game over.
Ok I love Paul Vunak, I think he's excellent.. but this clip was so rediculous. He sits down and starts playing a bongodrum. Nice.. streetfight = guys with two sticks and bongodrums. Jesus..
I think some of you guys are missing the point. In this exercise he is trying to show you how important it is to practice your attributes... speed, distance, timing, footwork. The sticks and the drums are used to help practice these attributes.
The guy used to train Navy Seals and other law enforcement agencies, i think he knows what's involved in a street fight. The gloves and helmet is so that you can get the feel of what is like to get in a fight without getting knocked out. Of course if you take the gloves and helmet you won't last long, but neither will practices!!I've done this exercise before and the drum is to help you develop rhythm and understanding your footwork. It may look silly but it works.
@ParkourCalgary I know what he is trying to teach and that is great, but don't forget that a real fight is CHAOS and so on. I just hope they train semi real sparring also. Remember if it does not work on the streets don't train it. But I think he knows that ..
What are weapons? That is the question here. Is a stick something you buy at the MMA store? Maybe a stick is also an umbrella, or th broken leg of a table. Maybe a pool stick. Think with a weapon, win with a weapon. If you find yourself facing an attacker with a weapon, pick something up to fight or run like hell Thats the bones of a street fight.
Ha ha double stick fight thats a new one. It is not even close to real street fighting. What's the odds of both men having two sticks??? I agree that stick fighting is useful, but dont expect to last long...
Try taking the gloves of and see how long you can dance around. JKD is realistic but in reality you have to stop the fight right away and nobody can hold a freaking stick if he is hit on the hands.
@etphonehome2915 This teaches timing. Distancing, getting in, getting out. You can't see this?? Timing is EVERYTHING. With good timing a man who has just a few months in the boxing club, but can only bench press 150 lbs can knock out/hit much harder than a guy who is 220 IF his timing is right
@sparwood8 Yes. I know that his system is probably the best street fighting system today. Technique, training and timing is essential. The fact of the matter is that the one who trains for street scenarios will win in those situations. The one who trains using tech's that have NOT been battle tested will loose. That is the key to Bruce Lee's method: take only what is useful and throw everything else away. Thats the evolution of street defence.
@etphonehome2915 and it makes sense. I don't believe people when they tell me they do MA because of the physical conditioning aspect. Truth is: Nobody of sane mind wants to get the Crap beat out of them by some no count cheap hoodlum who gets his jollies by hurting other people.THAT is why they start MA. I started boxing for exactly the same reason. Age 12, skinny kid etc.
And you think the stick thing is like a street fight? Haha dont make me laugh! I can understand what you are trying to do but you are a little of track. First of all you cant really be sure that 70% of all street fight involve weapons, and if it was true, its a big chance that it is the attacker who has a weapon and not you.
i agree am from scotland and in glasgow theres so much stabin and schemes fighting other schemes n mostly they use weapons and jump people who are alone with no weapons
absolutely ! You are 100% correct. I have NEVER seen double sticks in a fight. Sure a stick might be involved PROBABLY wielded by your opponent. He'll have a stick or a knife and MAYBE you can find something to pick up.
OK you're pulling 2 sticks on me wait let my bongo drum player get ready and start playing so I can find my rhythm reminds me of Lawerence Welk ah 1 and a 2
@80KungFu Tell you what: GO to Paul's training center and see how you do against him. Tell him you want a real fight, no weapons. He will oblige you gladly. He LIKES to fight. have never seen you, but I will put my last G note on him
Would be a good video if it had a better title, i.e., "Kali stick sparring" instead of street ...

Paul would have made an excellent mime.

What do you do if the other guy's stick is a 12 gauge pump shot gun?

Wouldn't it be more appropriate to put this fight to rap music?

Anyway JKD is a good system for the streets.
