not all cars nowadays have the oil checked when cold, read the sticker under the bonnet, for vauxhalls as an example, engine needs to have been run/warm,
i came across many vauxhalls where the oil level was above max,
i had 22 yrs as a recovery mechanic in REME British army, also AA recovery patrol 4.5 yrs too, and major transport firms, including MOD white fleet vehicles from LEX read the user manual for the type of vehicle is the first & most important step, ie cold or hot check
