Um, nothing like recompressing already-compressed video. Audio levels are waaaaaay off the meter, too. And frankly, too much time devoted to the new six-feather peacock and none devoted to the 11-feather with the trapezoid (from the 1980s). Nor was there anything pre-1950s chimes.
They should still be using "The Place to Be" for station promos. There is nothing catchier than hearing the station callsign; it's reminiscent of radio sounders. WBZ-TV, the place to be! Or it was...WHDH is the NBC affiliate in Boston; WBZ became a CBS station in 1994.
The company that founded NBC and owned it up until the 1980s was RCA.
In 1986, RCA was bought out by GE, which then broke RCA up and sold the pieces. Of particular note, the record company went to Bertelsmann in Germany and electronics went to Thomson in France.
NBC was the only major remnant of RCA that GE kept for itself.
The fact that the three notes of the chime are G, E and C is coincidental to the fact that they are the first letters of the full name of GE.
great idea, except to minor details the quality is from the days of a 56k dial up modem and the sound is generated using an old 1970s tape machine...apart from that brilliant upload

Here's a bit of trivia: NBC's famous three-chime intro are in the keys of 'G,' 'E,' and 'C." "G.E.C." Genereal Electric Company.

Pardon me, but it IS the truth. I looked it up on Wikipedia.
carchavtube 1 year ago
@carchavtube Well when NBC first started their sponsor was not GE, but RCA.
nubbie1944 1 year ago
@nubbie1944
Oh, RCA was more than a sponsor of NBC. RCA *owned* NBC from its start all the way up until 1986-1987.

@PDS1990 tom snyder said it was a typical example of non-creative types trying to do something creative.
it did eventually lead to the c&g peacock.
