If you don't understand the emotion behind it, then there's nothing I can say that will make you understand. Her tears are from her OWN experience as a Black woman to see how far this country can come. And to answer your "100 million dollar question", if he were light-skinned, it would still be momentous for many African Americans. MLK WOULD be proud - Obama was elected based on his ideals, not his skin color. Even if one does not agree with his ideals, that's something we can take pride in.

The Brown vs The board of Education was about 1954 and she was born in 1955. So water fountain signs and that sort of thing was before her time. During the height of the marches she was simply too young. Nobody spit on her and teacher refused to take her papers. She was too young. Sorry but it is true.

Second, the decision of B v BE challenged and rejected the segrationist assertion that separate can be equal. This decision did not apply to public services and accomodations, which the lady was describing. Third, I am younger than she is, was born in Louisiana, and remember the white and colored fountains in Supermarkets as late as 1964.

The civil rights movement was spent by 1964. The 'colored only' signs were long gone. Brown vs the Board of Education did indeed cover all public schools and services. For example the PL94-142 which covers the handicapped was a direct result of Brown vs the Board of Education. You are both mistaken
Because those signs disappeared legally before 1964. Memories can be misty over time. Sorry but you should check your facts first. Urban legends don't count as facts.

Not true. Colin Powell went to Vietnam during the mid-1960's, and upon his return experienced the very same things the lady describes in the video. He was banned from eating with whites, and from riding the bus, using the same restrooms, etc. as whites. You need to understand that things did not change overnight after the Brown vs Board of Education came down. They're still in the process of changing more than 50 years later, and we still have a ways to go...

Pure nonsense. I was in Georgia at that time and traveled through the south. No such 'white only' signs existed at that time. Public places were open to blacks. I was in Ft. Benning and Columbus was open to blacks. Even the infamous Phoenix Alabama just across the border was open to blacks.
