Now or then they play unfixed positions throughout the game...they begin in there respective positions and a game list must be entered by an authorized and licensed fourth referee and registered at Fifa at Switzerland which is later placed in a database. That database only gives their most usual or original position however, tactically this varies throughout the game as the coach sees fit and the tactic utilized...

(cont'd)The begin in a specific position, a list is entered and encoded into a database at FIFA but this does not mean they will enforce it...it would take away the spirit of football away...its not like hockey where a goaltender can't come out of their crease. Cruijff and Beckenbauer are the ultimate example of players that played in 90 minutes over 3 (or sometimes more) positions with equal productivity/resistance...its just a fact!

wats ur point? my point is u cant really compare henry's personal records to c.ronaldo because their MAIN and most COMMONLY played positions differ.

their tactical aspirations are the same with slight variations of their technical abilities. Henry as a winger is a better crosser, a better dribler and relies mainly on his speed and ability to surpass opposition in unilateral situations.

(con'd)Scolari relies on Ronaldo to do the same as Henry tactically opening him from his original position to seek desequilibriums and score through inclining to centre back and functioning as a second striker as Henry. Evidently when you determine the productivity of the two statistically and qualitatively it speaks for itself...Henry is more complete and more versatile as a player with a better collective work ethic that only benefits the team.

omgg.. end of the day henry plays a strikers role, receiving the ball from the midfielders to create goalscoring opportunities. c.ronaldo plays further towards the defensive part of the formation, however his job is also to create goalscoring opportunities.

at 21 Figo was already the captain of Sporting and the SUB-21 national team. He was already proclaimed the best portuguese player in the early 1990's (better than Futre!). It comes from the mindset and Ronaldo isn't a very carismatic individual as a person. Maradona at 21, Pele at 17....etc. its the bases for success...

You know 5 years ago the media in Portugal would claim that Quaresma would be the next Figo and so on...and what happened? Now he plays for FCP and can't hardly live up to his expectations in the portuguese national team. Ronaldo has already achieved more success than Ronaldo which I am not surprissed.

(con'd) He is more powerful and better skilled than Ricardo Quaresma and sure has the potential to become the best portuguese winger but he must change his mindset and game play for the benefit of the group and the country as a whole. Read the news and you'll know what I am talking about. Thats why Figo and Rui Costa were/are better professionals then he will ever be.

Henry does initiate nowadays as a striker and Ronaldo as a winger, however as the game evolves they go with the flow of their natural instincts which are playing through the flanks and vice versa.

(con't)Henry has this tendency from his times of Monaco to Juventus until signing for Arsenal and still plays intitially in many qualifying games as a left winger. WE CALL THIS TACTIC AS "IN LOSANGO" OR UNFIXED STRATEGY FORMATION, but you are right that Henry is characterized as a striker and Ronaldo as a flanker. But the tactic is more complex and position neutral than that. You don't need to know metaphysics to reach that conclusion...

C.Ronaldo has along road ahead of him and still has to pass historic portuguese "extremists" like Figo, Futre, Chalana, Simoes etc. and achieve the same degree of leadership and humility as Simao for instance. I hope Ronaldo won't fade away as many promising portuguese talents as Quaresma or Dani. There sure needs to be a change of attitude from this young man in order to be the best player in the world. Why wasn't Maradona proclaimed the best of all time?

What does their difference in position have to do with being the best player in the world? The original poster said nothing about "best midfielder in the world", because if that was the case, then you would have an argument. However, he or she simply said best "player", which goes to show how much YOU know about, football, eh?
Ronaldo has undeniable talent, but he is FAR from being the best midfielder in the world, let alone best player.

FAR from bein the best player in the world? well actually he was shortlisted as a candidate for the FIFA WORLD PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD for 2006 and would have been named best young player at the 2006 world cup if it wasnt for his attitude and diving.. and wat? he's only 21.. leave the judging to the pro's at FIFA

Attitude and diving and his obnoxiousness is exactly what keeps him FAR from being the best player in the world. Talent is one thing, which I recognized in my comment, but there's more to being best than just his skills—which compared to other players, other legends is still questionable.

u obviously havent seen him play after the world cup to be saying that. he has stopped diving!! i dont see attitude and obnoxiousness can reflect a players skill and likeliness to become the best player in the world though.

I don't follow the EPL enough, but I have seen him play after the World Cup. He still dives, perhaps more sparingly—I can't be the judge of that, but I do think that his attitude remains the same; the "I'm the best" obnoxiousness. I agree that he's talented, and that he can be one of the best YOUNG players in the game, but it's really a stretch to say that he's the best player in the world, no matter his nominations or fanbase, etc.

the fact that your portuguese obviously dosent mean you know sumthing about soccer.. henrys a striker ronaldo is a midfielder.. ronaldos also alot younger and has plenty of time to be the best player in the world

let me put this in portuguese then: Cristiano Ronaldo e um extremo-esquerdo/avancado que as vezes, como Thierry Henry tem a tendencia de jogar a segundo ponta-de-lanca ou como se diz no continente um avancado neutro ou incaracteristico tais como Joao Vieira Pinto no Benfica ou no Sporting e ate agora no Sp. Braga. Thierry Henry caso que nao saibas, e um extremo esquerdo descaido para o centro que faz com que tenha uma apatia para marcar golos tais como Ronaldo.

Ronaldo certainly does not play the same position as Thierry Henry which just goes to show how much you know about football. Ronaldo will almost certainly break every record held by any Portuguese player. He will be considered the best Portuguese player of all time, yes even ahead of Eusebio when all is said and done, which will put him in the top 10 players of all time. Enough said.

Obviously there seems to be confusion on this matter. Ronaldo and Henry are both left wingers with a tendency to play as neutral forwards like such players as Simao or Nuno Assis for Benfica. That is why Ronaldo has apatency to score from frontal positions like this game with Kazakhstan. Ronaldo will outscore Figo, Eusebio and Pauleta for the national team but should never be compared to Eusebio or Pauleta which were/are fixed forwards/strikers.
