I see that the lyrics were special to Edith, since her beloved Marcel the world boxing champion died in a trip from america to France..like the accordéoniste Marcel never came back, and Edith kept singing and dancing to forget like the prostitute in the song

Edith is transported with her God given talent and enhanced natural abilities to a realm few have traveled or have access. She was a tremendous asset to the world and through the miracle of sound, motion, and video, still blesses the world.
I love Edith Piaf. The way she sings with such emotion, powerful emotion. She inherits who she is singing about. She can make me cry. No other singer has ever done that to me in all my years. She is Absolutely AMAZING. You can see in this clip that it takes her time to get back to herself, such powerful emotions. No other sing that I've seen in 45 years can come even close to Edith Piaf ever. I LOVE EDITH PIAF.
