Personally , i think matt hayes is a load of bullshit , he is an amazing angler and all that but he pays 170 pound per day to fish on reservoirs so hecant blank , im not hating , its just my opinion , carping FTW !
marker and spod work etc are totally needed especially on waters that are very large and very varied in depths and features. Its also needed when paying large amounts of money to fish a place as you want to give yourself the best chance of catching. Its all well and good saying i dont use a marker and have always caught but imo if using a marker and spod helps to catch maybe one or two more than if i fished without doing either, then its worth it.
i think spod and marker fishing is more necessary for waters with less features, so the angler that catches the most fish will be the one who spends a few hours testing out the lake to locate the fish. But dont go out and buy everying in one go build up to it and as u become more confident with carp fishing and know you want to get properly into it, buy a spod and marker set up because they are a handy bit of kit to have...
sitting on bit alarms isnt proper fishing, i do it now n again and obviously when night fishing but people that do it all the time should try floatfishing cant beat it
ive been fishing for years for carp and ive never used a spod or tested the depth of the water i just set my rig up wich is a weight with a hair rig and then putg a strawberry bollie on and ive always caught big carp. there is no need to do all that malarkey it takes all the fun out of it when you get there you want to just get it set up and cast it out so you dont waste any time.
Sure you can catch some carp without using these advanced techniques but you will catch even more if you do use them and that equals MORE fun. Speaking of "wasting time" how many hours have you spent just sitting along the bank and not getting any bites - probably hundreds. A little preparation at the start of your fishing will cut down the amount of time it takes to catch that first, second, and third carp.
There's a fine line between fishing and just sitting on the bank.
@CaneFu i do spend hours on the bank but my rod is in my hand and im catching fish all the time i never have a blank day ive never needed to prepair my bait or my kit and i catch all day and big one's too so i dont know what you mean spending hours with no bites because i always catch you just have to know when to fish look at the weather forecast look for the right day and fish it. matt hayes only advertises these different things mainly because it lines his pockets.
The same thing could have been said about using a hair rig instead of a baited hook, or even a rod & reel instead of a cane pole...basically all you need is a tree branch, piece of string and a bent pin when it gets right down to it. However, I believer you WILL catch more fish using these more advanced techniques. And if you say you don't blank sometimes when you fish then I simply don't believe you - EVERYBODY blanks at least some of the time.
@CaneFu dont believe me if you dont want to but i know its a fact and so do a lot of people that i fish with me because they get pissed off because i always catch and they dont. you just have to know when to do it and what time of the day and know the weather and you will catch all the time.
I DON'T believe you nor should I because you are LYING to try to reinforce your point that advanced fishing techniques are not needed. Even the pro-fisherman blank sometimes so go off and remain a legend in your own mind.
I keep bringing in a pebble (small but annoying) bit of very hard stiff guey pva on my hook link or line and its hard to get off!.. Is this due to the mesh being shitty cheap mesh? or is it common with all mesh pva?. Im not tying massive knots in the mesh etc im doing it all properly, perhaps investment in the most expensive mesh is the answer? not cheap ones.
