Very nice light soprano. She does look a bit lost when she's doing ornamentations and cadenzas, though. I think that's more of an acting than vocal issue (although the two do go hand-in-hand!). Loved the simple choreography: it wasn't as distracting as most other versions!
@RManouchehri this was 1988, and honestly, you can't take any Gilbert and Sullivan production seriously anyway, she was probably cast for her voice
If you want to know what's bad, look at Nanki-Poo, Yum-Yum, Ko-Ko, Titipu for their production of Mikado, when NONE of those are actually Japanese names
He needs more strength but I think the biggest problem is the miking, not the singing. He's very lyrical. And frankly I don't think anyone should post comments like a couple of the ones below. So easy to be an armchair internet critic...
Should be played on the sea shore. The man is horrible. Elaine does a fair job with the cuts that were put into the piece, but she forces constantly when singing above the staff and seems a bit, shall we say "mature" for a maiden. Nevertheless, entertaining. Loved the costumes-
Okay I have to laugh that the girls are all playing about ON the pirates ship instead of a rocky seashore. Lol! It kind of makes them dull witted to be so surprised to see a man let alone a pirate ON the pirate ship that they are climbing all over. They are IN the ship! Silly girls! :)
However everything was VERY sweetly sung. Lovely job! Loved Mabel's ended!
I usually stick to what I first listened to, which was Doyle Carter, but I must say, this is a beautiful production!!!

@Ribbits I think the 'dreamy' Pirates of the Caribbean did that, with the Elf and well, Johnny Depp
