  • Well played Sir, very well played.

  • xenon st music > amiga xenon music. this version music sounds awful.

  • Comment removed

  • The Bitmap Brothers were great at making games, the only thing I disliked about them was some of there games had jerky scrolling, GODS being a perfect example, I couldn`t play this too long as I got motion sickness with it, then again that`s probably just me.

Awesome game Xenon. I always had difficulty in dodging the explosions and changing between ship and tank. My friend was the best at this he could play to complete it in 1 go.

  • Cool sounds.

  • cool playthrough of a TOUGH game the music is horrible though

  • I owned an Atari ST a long time ago and played this game on it, but the Amiga version here I must admit looks and sounds slightly better. I see from the comments that the Amiga versus Atari rivalry still lives on long after neither of the machines do! :)

  • For all those talking about the ST version, I had a friend who had both versions, and we would play this game every day for months and know every inch of it. The Amiga pwns the ST version in every respect.

And I can proudly say that I completed this game on the A500 with no cheats. After finally beating it, all it did was reset to the first sector! What a fucking liberty that was.

  • In this particular case, I think that the Atari version had the better sound - but this might be because I'm more used to it.

  • This game is real hard one, I liked it when I was a Kid and always used to make it to level 4 but never thru that level...

  • Such a tough game. I only ever got as far as level three, but then I didn't use cheats

  • the Atari ST version sound's like a game where your picking flowers as apposed to destroying everything insight.

  • @phil290570 Each to their own, the same could be said about some of the levels in Apidya on the Amiga, but that didn't stop the music still being appreciated ;)

  • @BaronCalisto go & listen to the st version & then come back & you will realise your talking utter shit. ie there is no music when your fighting in the st version therefore there is no music lol your on a loser kid time to move on ; ) x

  • @phil290570 There would be little point in me doing that seeing as I'm aware the ST version does in fact sound better than the Amiga version.

"loser kid"..... not likely in your lifetime.

  • @BaronCalisto me being around before isnt really the the argument thou is it ? the st version of this game sound's as soft as really soft dog shit compared to the amiga version.

  • @phil290570 Its irrelevant what it sounds like, the ST music sounds better. Thats the criteria for me, its not for you. My life will continue irrespectively.

  • @BaronCalisto prove it to yourself go to a youtube video of st xenon & come back to the amiga version, just like everyone did in the 80's lol.

  • @phil290570 I did so recently, my opinion hasn't changed in 21 years, the ST version sounds better.

You don't think it does, good for you, you're not likely to change my opinion, as I am not yours.

And with colourful missives such as 'loser kid', you're unlikely to persuade anyone with that 'winning line'.

  • @BaronCalisto well ive already stated music is a personal taste but were not talking about this soundtrack & that soundtrack were talking about xenon on the st vs xenon on the amiga & there's no comparison that the hard sound of the amiga completely buries the soft pussy ass st sountrack in this instance. it's a hard game with hard music where as the st version is a hard game with soft music or at least softier music ? there go amiga win's x

  • @phil290570 Well I am talking about the soundtrack, that you want to go off on a tangent and go deeper into Xenon, that I couldn't frankly give a toss about, because Xenon is a stupidly shit hard game on both ST and Amiga.

So, in the conversation i'm having, where i'm discussing soundtracks and NOTHING ELSE, the ST versions music sounds better.

Whether the music is 'hard' or 'soft pussy ass', the ST sounds better.

  • @BaronCalisto ok go away now & by the way your on the wrong youtube site arent you lol if the st sound's so much better i would think you'd sooner have that soundtrack in the back ground while your talking out your arse lol.

  • @phil290570 Heres the very first message I wrote on this longplay:

"Actually the ST version is one of the >>>FEW<<< games where the music is much better sounding over the Amiga version."

Clearly English isn't your first language, because I can't really explain why it is you selectively pick whatever you like from peoples posts, whilst ignoring other points which utterly defeat your 'argument'.

"lol"... really? do you really think you're that funny, you look like an idiot!

    Now that is LOL

  • @BaronCalisto so what ? i still disagree & think the amiga soundtrack kick's the shit out of the st one & i apperciate your argument that you base your argument solely on the music but i wouldnt walk around listening to either soundtrack through a personal stereo so let's go back to where they belong & how good they sound in there created & natural surroundings. bye bye st lol.

  • @phil290570 Your responses are so chock full of "WTF", i'm mystified as to how you can hold a conversation with anyone.

I prefer the ST music on Xenon, its one of the >>>FEW<<< games on the ST that I like better over the Amiga. Thats it, thats my total and utter point.

I have no clue why you need to bring up personal stereos, and all of the other 'wonderful' stuff you've brought up, that doesn't actually have ANY relevance to the point I made, though I suspect thats lost on you.

    LOL indeed!

  • @BaronCalisto i might look an idiot but you are a cunt & need your ear's fucking open ; ) x

  • @phil290570 There was no need to use the word "might", its a given that you're an idiot.

Bless the little lad, learning all these new swear words from the other patients in the mental home.

And i'm still sure English isn't your first language, because you mangle it with such disregard, that I have to read what you write a couple of times just to make sure I'm getting you.

Oh, and you're older than me.... old people are mental aren't they?

Thats rhetorical by the way ;)

  • @BaronCalisto lol take the piss out of my spelling by all means it take's the heat out of how tone deaf you are. you silly little cunt.

  • @phil290570 I took the piss out of your grammar, I took it as a given your spelling would be all over the place, hence I didn't comment on it.

And thats "silly big cunt" to you fella, I'm probably quite a bit bigger than you in all the ways that would make you jealous ;)

Stop chewing on those crayons, wipe the drool from your keyboard, and get a job... preferably one that doesn't require you to communicate with people! :)

  • @BaronCalisto ye the same could be said about any soundtrack to any game shithead but in this instance xenon is a hard game & requires & a hard sound track & the fucking st doesnt deliver nowhere near what the amiga deliver's now fuck off & go & cry in a corner because all you got for christmas 20 year's ago was a fucking atari st ya cunt.

  • @phil290570 Haha, look at the brave little lad giving it his all! You go for it you little fighter you, you're a credit to the childrens home that dragged you up :)

The ST version sounds great, the Amiga version... not so great, I didn't ever get into a discussion about hard and soft, but you sure do love to bring that up.

Is that the same conversation you get with your dad before he tucks you into bed? "You want it hard or soft tonight son? Pull your jim jams down!"

    You're a clown!

  • i had an st back then & this game is one of the reason's i sold it & upgraded to an amiga once i seen & more importantly heard it.

  • @phil290570 I also had an ST first time around, and upgraded to an Amiga, for much the same reasons. That doesn't exclude the chance that the ST can and did produce surprising results from time to time.

The soundtrack to Xenon being one of them.

  • This is indeed a computer hero playing...!

  • Another thing...level 4....part of me says it's all organic...and part of me says...so much of it resembles FOOD.....including the "egg missiles", and those meatballs that swarm at you!

  • I don't know how you guy's can rate the st music over that on the amiga which I think hammer's the st music with it's genuine guitar riff's & no drop out when your firing or thing's are exploding.

  • @phil290570 Actually the ST version is one of the few games where the music is much better sounding over the Amiga version. The electric guitar samples used on the Amiga sound shit.

  • @BaronCalisto well obviously the sound is down to personnel taste but total music drop out can never be considered a plus.

  • @phil290570 Lots of Amiga games have music that cuts out or drops a music channel to allow SFX to play instead, so it doesn't overly bother me in Xenon.

Xenon just happens to be one of the rare cases where the ST version sounds musically better than the Amiga version. David Whittaker tried so desperately to make it sound more 'Amiga' with samples, but didn't bother his arse with decent sounding samples. That guitar sample is just bloody awful.

  • @BaronCalisto again just personnel preference, i personally love the trashy guitar riff's of the amiga & think they just add add & add again to the atmosphere of what is going on but like i say that's personal. but what isnt personal is that the amiga music carry's on playing with all the explosions & firing where the st does not. these are not personal taste's just fact's. i dont understand what your missing ?

  • @phil290570 I hate those guitar samples, because they are used so badly because they are too short to feel remotely 'real' sounding, compare to other Amiga games using guitar samples, Xenon is not a great advert for the Amiga.

You're not getting the point i'm making, lots of Amiga games music cuts out, and frankly, whilst you're engrossed in the game, its not something you notice that much.

I just prefer the ST rendition of the music, and I don't say that very often ;)

  • @BaronCalisto lol ive just double checked the st soundtrack bud, you must be tone deaf kid.

  • @phil290570 Kid? I think not. If you prefer the Amiga soundtrack, good for you. But I was around long enough to hear the ST version first time around, and its far more pleasing on the ears.

David Whittaker really dropped a bollock when he did the Amiga version, I didn't rate it back in 1989, and I still don't now. Each to their own.

  • @BaronCalisto ps i was around longer if that means anything ; ) x

  • @phil290570 I very much doubt that you were around before me.

The Atari ST version for once does sound better than the Amiga version.

  • @phil290570 Care to prove it?

  • @BaronCalisto the st music is just ok & even then as long as you dont want to here it when your taking off or landing or when your firing or when something is exploding lol i'm not big on reading but have a look yourself both game's with soundtrack's are on here & james blunt said thanx lol.

  • @phil290570 I'm not remotely commenting on whether or not the music is better PLAYED throughout the game or not. I simply prefer the ST version of the music over the Amiga one, thats the only criteria that interests me, because frankly, Xenon is a ridiculously hard game to play, and hasn't aged well at all.

  • @BaronCalisto the amiga version sounds hard, just like the game. the st sountrack sounds soft unlike the game & that's when you can hear it.

  • @BaronCalisto how are you confused ?

  • @phil290570 I'm not 'confused' about anything. I'm stating a preference for the music, I didn't make any caveats about it cutting out during the gameplay, you did.

  • @BaronCalisto ye but surely no music where it's meant to be or needed or would have if possible is a failing ? lol.

  • @phil290570 If you're going to criticise the ST version for that, would you care to list the many HUNDREDS of Amiga games that do precisely the same thing?

As i've repeated several times now, I'm commenting SOLELY on the music, not how well or not its implemented in the game.

The music sounds better.... thats my criteria.

  • @BaronCalisto hang on baroncocksuck i got an email off you, you brainless prick arguing my opinion that the amiga version in my opinion was better than the st version & ive just replied & youve lost the argument so go & fuck off simple simon ; ) x

  • @phil290570 Email? Categorically i've never sent you an email, because obviously if I did, i'd have to simpify the email.... write it in crayons I suppose!

I've yet to lose an argument to you, you're too busy running your mouth off in broken English, with some colourful language that only serves to highlight your utter stupidity.

Jog on to McDonalds son, theres a Happy Meal with your name on it.... and that crunchy thing in the box? Thats toy you idiot, don't eat it!

    Big Smile moron ;)

  • OMG! We need an ST version of this longplay .... the music on the Amiga version is no where near as good.

Kudos to the player, awesome skills.

  • aaah yes this game, i remember it playing on my atari 520. why was Xenon 2 altered to no recognition to the first one (loved the second to but still odd)?

  • I agree. ST version sounds better.

  • omg the sound is apalling, much better on st

  • This game was freakin' genius. Played it for HOURS when I was a kid.. The man zooming up and saying "Sector blah" was boss.. Thanks for the video.. very very impressive!!

  • Why is this game so hard? I need tips to get through the first level.

  • Is it just me, or does that guy who tells you the level look a lot like Bruce Willis? Anyways, video brings back nice memories. And yes, the great debate...level 1, Wings or Balls? Me, I found the following balls to be better. And is it just me, or does there seem to be a tribute to Space Invaders in level 2...and a tribute to a certain Gradius boss in levels 2 and 4?

  • Great game, never got past the 1st beetle I think back in the old days, but wtf, level 4 bosses virtually identical to level 2 bosses + no end sequence! booooo

  • Hard but amazing game and much better music! AWESOME! But on ST was little bit better.

  • Wonderful! I played it a lot 15 years ago on the amazing Amiga500!!! Great game and incredible soundtrack....but i,ve never gone beyond level 2 =(

I've also never understood what does the human say...something like "blebledon one...blebledon two..."....boh?!

  • Maybe it was 20 years ago...?! Man...

  • T-t-take one, I think it's supposed to be.

Also interesting to see the uploader going with the 'wings' option in stage 1, I always tried for three orbs instead because you could park them under the boss and shoot it when it was at the bottom of the screen.

  • "Sector One"

But you're right about the balls

  • "Sector"

  • Oh, the memories. I've wanted to hear this game's music again for ages. So glad I finally can.

  • At least the pace was quicker than Xenon 2, which I found to be a bit too slow.

  • Music sounded better on the ST.

  • Tsk. Tsk.. you are lamers alltogether:

Played it on Atari, an absolute masterpiece of its time.. Autofire, savestates =:-o.

Back then games were for real men. You had to have a quick finger.

But yes, most difficult and coolest games in that time.

When I became good I played it in an endless loop. After 2.5 hours I fell screaming from chair with aching wrists.

I didn't miss endscreen. 10+ levels would have been cooler.

    THX for the cool video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    F* 500 char limit

  • WTF after doing all tht u go back sector 1 again. sheesh waste of time but i remember playing this when i was young. only got to sector 3 tho lol

  • not waste of time, xenon was a fun game, what did else did you want out of it? a cookie at the end? lol

  • I always liked the visual style of this game, but the music is horrible.

  • You're a fucking retard. If you think this music is horrible, then the music you like is probably backwoods Slavic. This is the best music ever, David Whitaker is a master. You have absolutely no taste at all. You probably like your filet mignon well done and jack off to old ladies taking a shit.

  • And with a username like yours, I'm guessing a poor sense of melody is probably only the beginning of your problems.

  • Bah, this music sounds way better than Xenon 2's.

  • the boss music is esspecialy AWSOME!

  • omg i remember the music like it was yesterday! now THATS some heart pounding tunes to blast crap to XD

  • I remember a friend of mine commented that it looked like Bruce Willis was introducing the levels! Such a fun game. The ending was a letdown, but back then it was more tolerated.

  • Wasn't this classic UK shooter released in a few arcades in the US?

  • *sigh*... I remember only too well my disappointment at the "ending" of that game.Would it have killed them to put up a congratulation screen before dropping you back at the start?

  • i'm sure i remember the levels being harder when you went back around to sector 1?

  • Absolute classic game. The Bitmap Brothers Rock. Bit pissed off about the last boss though, as I could only get as far as the beginning of level 4. I thought it would look better.

  • Oh hell no! It starts you off at the beginning when you beat it! And level 3 and 4are just rehashes of 1 and 2. Nice fade out.

  • Dave Whittaker is a god. Bland shooter? What shooter have you been playing that features the genius music of Whittaker...unique power ups....morphing between a jet and a tank? Please direct me to this un-bland shooter so that I may revel in its greatness.

  • DAVID!!!! DAVID!!! NOT DAVE!! :)

  • love the music

  • just another obvious troll being obvious

  • Most shmup videos I watch are being but this one is interesting to watch especially the music. I like how you can morph in to a tank too, very interesting.

  • Awesome music.
