Hey mate, my macbook pro has only one jack... But, could i use a USB adapter to connect my guitar and the jack to connect the external speakers?... Thank you!!! :)
Hello can anyone help me, I have plugged a semi acoustic guitar into imac, i have downlpoaded latest version of garageband, i've switched the drivers over to built in input built in output and changed the sytstem preferences to line in audio port but still nothing is registering.i can receive a plug n play keyboard without a midi interphase, but the guitar isnt registering..... any ideas????? thanks, liz.
Mine is getting MEGA delay when I play, it's way too far behind delivering the music, so far that I get confused and end up fucking up.. and then having to hear it played to me fucked up through the speakers :/
@fsl4faisal sometimes that one jack doubles as an audio input jack as well, check the tech specs of your computer. For example a 13" Macbook Pro uses the one jack for audio in and out.
@fsl4faisal actually you can, mine has 1 jack too, you just have to go to system preferences and click on the button that says output, the look up for the part that says "use audio port for" or something like that and select the option that you want (:
ya, sure, but, what if u wanna use your guitar amp as the 'eternal speaker'? i think 'a call to apple and spend $50. (per issue... since last i had a shit ton of questions, haha........)
there's got to be a way, and i'm sure it's as plain as the nose on my face;)
I have literally done everything you have said, but in system preferences/sound the input level doesn't move. It moves a bit and makes a popping noise out of the speakers when I plug the adapted jack in, but when I strum it seems like it is not recognised. Thru is greyed out in Utilities/Audio MIDI set up and LineIn Thru doesn't work either... Ideas?
P.S. Nice LTD. I have the EC-401. The EMGs are so sick.
2) You plugged into the audio input jack (the one with Microphone icon). Not output (speaker icon).
3) Garageband is running (otherwise you won't hear a thing obviously)
4) In system preferences (Mac), The sound input supposes to move when you strum the guitar, otherwise something is just not right, probably the setting or the line. If anything else fails, get the M-Audio Fast Track which is about $100 or less
Everything is correct. Using Logic Pro 8 also tried it in Garage Band. Gone into System Preferences/Sound and the input level meter isn't moving. It jumps to the middle when I plug it in and the speakers make a popping sound but when I strum there isn't any movement. REALLY pissing me off. Called Apple Support today and they don't know. Maybe my pick ups need more power?
Fixed it. I had the guitar jack all the way into the adapter, which is the norm, and that wasn't working, so I put it in half way and I'm getting sound. Weird huh. Thanks for your response though.
@BeforeTuesdaySleeps in that case you will need M-Audio Fast Track. It is a bit of an investment, but it will produce better sound / recording quality if compared to the method I use in this video.
Firewire interfaces are not that expensive and you get 4-10 inputs. Good one, like Alesis, is switchable guitar and line/mic. Also, each channel has volume, bass, treble and phantom power for mics. Before you go plugging a mic or instrument into the audio in of a laptop, you might check the manual.
hey i have a question: i have a sort of reverse version of the adapter. the adapter itself plugs into the guitar, and you have to have a 1/8 inch cord that plugs into the computer. so 1/4 inch in, 1/8 inch out. will it work??
@technicallynazz no, the adapter is 1/4 inch and plugs into the guitar, with a hole which a 1/8 cord plugs into. but that actually turned out not to be the problem. the problem was actually on my hackintosh, logic doesn't display the record ready button. but on this old emac i found that i have, it does work...
My macbook pro doesn't have a spot for a 1/8 adapter just headphones. Should I get a USB adapter thing instead? (Sorry I don't know the technical term for it)
@fostonovatsug you won't. The guitar will act like a Mic, but since it is a guitar (loud); don't use the built in speakers. Get a good external speakers
Why are you plugging the guitar into the headphone jack ?

1) The volume on the guitar is up

@hellonearth1066 Plug the guitar to the amp, if it doesn't work than the guitar probably ran out of juice.
