  • The last romantic of the tennis-Fabris Santoro!

  • Ummm, the important thing is that he lost the point...

  • Whenever I do a crazy slice that I probably should not have , my #1 excuse is "santoro does it

  • no look shoot :D

  • this guy is a pussy. he can't even hit a forehand properly. two handed my ass

he needs to get a better fuckn forehand.

  • @BfmvMetalDemon

That shot is better than you could ever conjure up in your miserable life

  • That wasn't a trick... But I'd love to see one !

  • Did anybody see this match? Yeah, he was doing his tricks and everything but he was kind of being a jerk. I mean, he came off as a little pompous if anything. I know, I know it was an exhibition but even Roddick caught on that he was trying to play him down. Anyway, Roddick began playing a lot harder once he noticed this and I don't blame him.

And please, he lost because he was old? yes, he was a great player back in the day, but in reality, Roddick won and he didn't have to try, really.

  • where was the trick-shot??

  • I saw Santoro play many times. His fight was unbelievable and you could tell how much he loved to play. For those that criticize his style i'd just like to point out the same criticism never came from his opponents. When he won it was because he dismantled his opponents and when he lost he went down fighting.

  • Was his lob out?

  • was funny for Santoro)))

  • And he follows that up at 0:37

  • I agree, nothing too special on this half volley except he just runs it close to his body as he turns the wrong way to recover.

  • that isn't even a trick shot. i don't know what people are talking about.

  • @rmsprowler you slow minded ape look closer

  • @rmsprowler if you know anything about tennis you'd know there really isn't anything special about this. he hit a half volley then decided to add a 360 to it. nothing special about that.

  • @rmsprowler

ho yeah, players hit everyday half-volleys BEHIND them...

  • @gr0chibre learn to speak english then talk to me.

  • @rmsprowler no, learn tennis then talk to me.

  • @gr0chibre lol all you could teach me in tennis is how to lose to an opponent 6-0, 6-0. having played tennis for years, i can tell you a trick shot when i see one. ametuers like yourself cannot.

  • @rmsprowler are you kidding ? a few days are not enough to learn tennis

come back next year and i'll try to explain you why it's not a common shot

  • wtf did the ball go around his body?

  • @fbinsulation ?!! when I rewatched the first angle, rea it looked like it went thru his legs. This is real magic

  • Comment removed

  • look at 0:36 lol he misses the ball

  • Es un MostrO

  • he just hit it.. ok..?

  • santoro wud nvr beat any1 in the top 10 a double forehand jus wouldnt match a normal forehand..

  • what did he do here? just hit it while turning around???

  • nice.. wats the move called

  • It's not much of a trick shot - he just hit a half volley and spun round. And he lost the point.

  • i hate this guy. neither talent nor skill

  • @NiggeliNG

    Not talented?

The guy has beat like 17 players who either were or were previously the #1 player in their career. He has beaten Federer twice. He had a 7-2 record against Marat Safin - who some would call one of the most naturally talented players ever.

Plus he ranked in the top 100 for like 15 straight years and played professional tennis in 4 different decades.

What does the guy need to do to make you think he has skill? Rofl.

  • @SSky06 every player has a lucky day somewhen. and everyone knows that safin just had a blockade against santoro's slice game, but this game is just shit.

and that he played in 4 decades doesn't mean he's good. that just says that he played long - not well.

  • @NiggeliNG

Everyone has a lucky day where they beat the top players in the world 17 different times, eh? 17 REALLY lucky days I guess.

The guy consistently stayed in the top 100 (mostly from 60-30 and as high as 17) from 1997 through 2010. He also won multiple Grand Slams in doubles as well as breaking into the top 20 in singles. Nobody is saying he is one of the greatest ever. But he is certainly talented and skilled, contrary to the reasons you offer for why you hate him.

  • @SSky06 doubles sucks. no comparison to real tennis.

and to beat a former world nr 1 you don't even have to have a lucky day. for example moya isn't even in the top 500 anymore. so what a player once was ranked like doesn't say anything about ho well he plays in a certain moment.

  • @NiggeliNG

Lol @ doubles not meaning anything in comparison to "real" tennis. I don't even know what "real tennis" is supposed to mean. Does it have to be Men's Singles to be "real tennis." Does it require a certain surface? Played at a certain time of day with certain weather factors? Wtf.

And since he didn't beat Moya 17 times, I guess your point is irrelevant. He has beat Federer twice, Safin 5 times, Sampras, Agassi, Hewitt, etc.

Once again, there is no argument for him being talentless.

  • @NiggeliNG - I love the legion of evidence you brought with you to counteract the fact that Santoro won over $10 million in prize money over his career, rose to no17 singles and no6 doubles (only a very few players can break the top 50 or even top 100 or 200 in both disciplines,) won 6 singles and 24 doubles ATP titles (inc. THREE GRAND SLAMS, he also had three grand slam runner-up positions, and including the ATP year end-masters,) and defeated Federer and Samprass in their Primes. Well argued

  • @BenjyT27 doubles is bullshit, no one cares about that

  • @NiggeliNG ahaha - ignorance - oh it is so amusing I think the fact that fabrice himself has won over $10 million in prize money, mostly from dobules, means that doubles is not "bullshit" but a major world sport

How does someone even make a statement like that? On what grounds can a sporting event be judged to be "bullshit" - especially one of that level of prestige and status. Bratislavan-rules bowtie eating maybe, you don't get $10 million from a career in that

  • @NiggeliNG and even if your ludicrous comment had a shred of truth or even meaning to it, Santoro would still be an amazing tennis player just from his singles play. 6 ATP singles titles is something only a handful of people can claim to have achieved. Do you think maybe you could do better? Maybe you reckon you could get to no.16 in the ATP rankings, one higher than santoro, and thus have some shred of a leg to stand on in your ignorant, ill-informed, and frankly insane ramblings.

  • @BenjyT27 i would also get 6 atp titles if i play tennis for 30 years...

  • @NiggeliNG Uh - right - sure you would... - in that case why are you not on the pro tour? Hundreds of pro players wouldn't be good enough to win a title every 5 years over their career. If you reckon you could - I'd say that would place you around 40-75 in the world rankings, players that hover around there for a few decades tend to pick up one or two titles every ten years or so. So you reckon you'd be a top 100 tennis player, is what you're saying. Hmm. That's.... how to put this... bullshit.

  • he can play with both hands nice,.

  • No offense, but this is hardly a trick shot. It's just a late half volley.

  • weird. one of those guys who slices off the forehand more than the backhand

  • @200pounder Why? Nothing's wrong with it.

  • @200pounder your spelling's disgusting.

  • If looked really fast, it looked like two strikes to me...

    jinkasa jingoku?????

si se ve de prisa,me parecieron dos golpes...

    jinkasa jingoku?????

    Peace from Big Sky-Montana

    (but 100% peruvian)

    mech!

  • @THEWING20 No. It's only one. He just turned for some "magical effects". :-D

  • Lol, the thing is to show, this was one of the classic shots made by Roddick.

  • wonder if rodick even noticed something he did

  • I think he did :P

  • thats just not that hard

  • look at the shot at :25 ... and people say he just slices the ball.

  • im sure a lot of us get in that situation...got caught in no-mans land and had to come up with a half volley, almost behind him

very difficult shot and one you shouldnt have to play

  • le petit magicien vit sa dernière saison, quel toucher! on a pas fait mieux depuis McEnroe!

  • He isn't a lefty though.

  • He is right handed dominant, although he can use his left hand aswell, does make him ambidextrous, but he isnt left handed dominant so therefore, not a lefty.

  • not a trick shot. but he is ambidextrous :D

  • dude, that guy is ambidextrous....

  • look better, it's not a volley, neither a "simple" half volley

he play the ball way behind himself

  • haha .

i love how in the beginning of the point,

he acts like " oh, its just andy roddick, i guess i can fix my hat during this point"

  • Good shot, wouldn't call it a trick shot though. more of a half volley.

  • If I make any offensive comments here, then I'm sorry but it's my stupid asshole of a brother using it. I'm not lying, seriously.

  • What was the score in this one??

  • 6-2 6-2 6-2 Roddick.. Santoro was simply overpowered for most of the match and his bag of tricks were ineffective.

  • @TheTennisStore Yes, very ineffective, he won only $10,003,153 in Career

look at wikipedia next time :)

  • @BRtrekking

I'm guessing since he uploaded the video, he'd have some sort of respect for the guy.

Just saying. Mansour Bahrami is another interesting older tennis player.

  • @LaPerssonandro Mansour Bahrami's trick shots are awesome to watch!

  • @TheTennisStore His "bag of tricks" was only ineffective because he was too old and slow to execute most of them as effectively as before. Santoro beat players like Sampras, Safin, Agassi etc and even gave Rog a tough match at the Open in 2005. I think in his prime he'd be more than capable of beating Roddick.

  • @SuperBajack I'm not discrediting Santoro... he's one of my favorite players. I was just sad to see him not able to do anything against Roddick in this match because he was too old.

  • @TheTennisStore

He wasn't too old at this time. He lost because he hadn't sleep for days then. He faced familial issues and he wasn't able to train. I remember he beat Roddick at Lyon in three sets the year before (sorry for my english).

  • @TheTennisStore pwned.

  • it really takes TWO replays to see what he does :P

  • i cant see shit

  • just because he spun around?

  • because he hit the ball WAY behind himself. The spin was just the fast way to recover from it.

  • Agreed

  • I saw what happened but not really lol

  • he also played left and right hand backhands if u didnt notice

  • no he doesnt! he just use two hands on both forehand and backhand. look it up on wikipedia

  • yea.. santoro's known for his 2 handed forehand slice. his follow through on his forehand ends with the racquet in the opposite hand.

  • Yes that's right, although in this video he was hitting backhand slice and forehand topspin. Typically he does the opposite...two-handed forehand slice and backhand topspin.

Santoro is very tricky, but this shot was nothing special. He simply short-hopped it because he was caught in no-mans land on his approach, then did an unnecessary blind spin in the opposite direction. Roddick should have put away the next shot no question, but didn't. There was really no trick shot.

  • he was hitting forehand slice and backhand drives retard

  • Yes you're right. He has such an odd style that it often appears that he is a lefty, even though he isn't. In between shots, sometimes he holds the racket in his right hand and sometimes with his left hand.

But yes typical Santoro...two-handed forehand slice (which nobody else hits) and topspin backhand.

Thanks for the retard comment...you must be in high school, or just a douche bag.

Either way, have a good one.

  • it was a half volley hitted behind him

maybe not a trick shot but a very difficult one

  • you stupid idiot, watch the match of federer and santoro at the AO 2008 he used two handed forehand there yeah i know he use left hand slice

  • wait i dont get what happened

  • I was more impressed with the trick he did at 0:39 seconds.

  • LOL

  • lol the ball of the top of the head

  • Not so much a trick shot as a late half volley.

  • OOO i see it, he turn whacked it so smoothly between his legs!

  • no its went around the outside of his legs... you can see it ther clearest in the last time it plays

  • that didnt look like his left hand it looked like Canas's 360 turn return.mayb im missing something,il watch again

  • Santoro is the oldest guy in the top 100, at 36 years. Gotta give the guy credit.

  • You got that right. He does more with less than any pro on the tour. Great foot speed, determination, conditioning, and realizing how to play within his limitations keeps him there. I'd take top 100.

  • oh my goodness, fabrice is such a magician

  • good

  • hahaha love him!!!

  • and you're even LESS than Santoro at his very worse bitch!

  • seph49 i don;t know what is so amazing :|

  • he used left hand in his slice!

  • I can't stop watching it. It's so amazing.

  • NICE !!!

  • esa es magia nunca le vi hacer a ningun jugador

  • he seem pretty wore out doing tricks like that lolz...35 yr old man. OP nice video handling !

  • he did one of the best tricks ever this year, actually. watch the "Fabrice Santoro - Play of the Week" clip.

  • What the hell?! 0_o

  • wat a trick by our eyes

  • Il a meme pas fait expres juste un coup de chance.
