"Original Sin" is a massive misunderstanding. It should more accurately be called "Ancestral Sin". We are not guilty of the sin of Adam and Eve nor do we inherit their sin (as the Bible says none are guilty of the sin of others). The Orthodox Church correctly states that we are not born "with" original sin, but we are born "into" a world of sin. That is why the concept of immaculate conception doesn't really make sense since Mary wasn't born "with" sin that needed to be forgiven.
Does Christian water baptism result in forgiveness of sins?
1 John 1:7: If we are walking in the light as he himself is in the light, . . . the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. (Thus, not baptismal water but the blood of Jesus cleanses us from sin.)
thank you for making this! :) but I have a question regarding; full immersion vs. pouring during infant baptism. Does it matter wether or not you are fully immersed? I feel either way is valid as long as intent, invocation of God, Son and Holy spirit. Thanks again!!!!
there is no difference between pouring and immersion both are vaild ways of applying the sacrament. A baptism is valid if the water touches the skin and if the words "I baptize you in the name of the father, son and holy spirit" are used.
no offence alot american are blinded, because when scholars translate words from aramaic to english, theres diffrent meaning to the word, so when you read it in english, you dont understand as much. For me, I understand comepletely because im assyrian and read/speak/write in aramaic. i watch alot videos how you talk about orginal sin etc, honestly thats something you learn when your little in our nationality. unfortuanlly others are blinded from truth.....god bless because you all need salvation
If you'd like to believe the physical water washes away our sins, thats cool. I tend to think that through our faith in getting baptized the Spirit cleans our sins.
In Acts 22:16 it is the act of calling (confessing) on the Lords name that washes away sin. This clause is supported biblically (Joel 2:32, Acts 2:21, Rom. 10:13) LOOK UP THESE VERSES! In no way is physical water washing your souls sins away. You know that it is the blood of Christ that cleans.
you can't pit the blood of christ against baptism. Through baptism the blood of christ is applied to the individual. This is why there are verses in the bible talking about being "baptised into his death" or "baptised into one body" or "Dying with christ in baptism." I beleive the context of Acts 22:16 is talking about the waters of baptism washing away sins, i don't see this being symbolic
Jesus went through a baptism when He dead and rose from the dead. Eph. 4:9 explains that Jesus descended into the Earth. Jesus then rose from this death. In Luke 12:50, this was the baptism Jesus was talking about. This is the baptism that now saves. This is the antitpye. Jesus is the ark. 1 Peter 3:21
so we need to be baptised by being literally crucified, is that what you are saying? In 1 peter 3:21 the context is water baptism becuase it likens the waters of baptism to the waters of noah, you cannot get around this.
Wow! You really don't understand my comments. Water baptism is symbolic of Chirsts baptism (His death and resurrection). Christ's baptism saves and water baptism is our proclaimtion of that truth. The context to 1 Pet. 3:21 is not water baptism, but Christs baptism. The verse previous deals with the ark that saved not the water that saved. v.21 tells us that this baptism is not of the kind the washes dirt away (water) but of Christ resurrection.
when it says "not a removal of dirt from the body" what peter is trying to say is that baptism does more than just physically wash the body, but rather there is a internal change when a person is baptised.
And what passage says the water baptism and baptism by the Spirit are one and the same? If I remember correctly John the baptist said Jesus would baptism by Spirit and fire.
the difference is that john's baptism was ONLY of water, it did not confect the remission of sins it wwas only a sign. But the baptism of christ (of water AND spirit) does have the power to remit sins, jesus gave us this baptism after he had risen from the dead when he commissioned his deciples, it is an upgraded version of john's baptsim but is still confected with water
I don't agree. 1 Cor. 12:13 is talking about baptism, but not water baptism. Paul is discussing baptism of the Spirit. The Spirit here is the Agent who does the baptizing here, hence, "by one Spirit". The Spirit may also be the element of this baptism, such as water is the element for immersion baptism. Matt. 3:11, Acts 1:5, John 1:33 may help you understand my position better.
there is only one baptism not 2. Baptism of the holy spirit and baptism of water are joined. we are baptised in water and the holy spirit enters us. The difference between john's baptism and jesus' baptism, was that john's was not a sacrament, it was not until the great commission that baptism became nessesary for salvation.

Their sins are literally washed away by the water?
frostykind 4 years ago
thats what it sounds like
"Now, why delay? Get up and HAVE YOURSELF BAPTISED AND YOUR SINS WASHED AWAY, calling upon his name." (Acts 22:16)

If it is an internal change, physical water baptism means nothing in terms of salvation. It is the faith one has before getting baptized.
frostykind 4 years ago
by internal change i meant that when a person is baptised there is an internal change. the persons sins are washed away Acts 22:16

Never did Jesus baptize anyone. (John 4:2)
Yet, John the Baptist said He had a baptism to perform and it wasn't one of water (Mark 1:8, Luke 3:16, Matt. 3:11, ACTS 1:5) Please read the verses.
So...no...Jesus was not likening his suffing to baptism, He truely had a baptism to undergo. (Luke 12:50,

What baptism was Jesus speaking of in Luke 12:50? That of water OR that which He did and finished on the cross?
frostykind 4 years ago
in luke 12:50 jesus is likening his suffering to a baptism.
