first of all, the flood was isolated. it was thought to have covered the entire globe because back then they didn't know how large the globe was...to them, the small bit of land around them was the entire world. secondly, natural disasters occur because of solar insolation, plate tectonics, etc. as for the theology class....those teachers would swear that they are guided by the Holy Spirit. i am positive about my salvation. i am the beloved creation of God and am doing my best to serve him.

but they had scientific and technological insights about many things. they were astrologists, agriculturists, they had a vast knowledge of different plants and their various uses. ancient batteries were found in the pyramids which suggest that they used some form of electricity. ancient maps of the world have been found. they practiced alchemy. they mastered mathematics and other sciences as well. there are tons of books on the subject. do a little research. the ancients weren't ignorant.
