  • This version is missing the verse after he shoots the "handsome young stranger": "Just for a moment I stood there in silence, shocked by the foul evil deed I had done. Many thoughts ran through my mind as I stood there, I had but one choice and that was to run."

  • @RobertJeffreyMiller I believe you are correct. I remember listening to this when I was younger and thought it was longer than this song. Very good catch!

  • Whenever I think of a country singer, Marty Robbins always come into mind. I just think that this is a very perfect song, especially on this original piece. The singer, the accompaniment, the guitar solo, strumming and the harmoniser were simply gorgeous. It is very complete and you just can't do better than that, splendid!

  • after i came back from nam i worked at a job instigler i lived with my grand perants for a while after work i would lay in mybed and listen to him and a lot of other country music and i loved it all i thought country was the greatest and still do until lately i have seen men killed in combat but the crulest thing i ever saw was not done in the heat of battle but by two doctors working in one of the largest hospitals in tulsa for more info please see[ msbones1950] a slow death or a waiting grave

  • ME RECUERDA ALGUNOS AMIGOS KE VIVEN EN EL PASO

  • One of the best songs ever - Marty Robbins wrote it, and made such a wonderful recording. Every time this song would come on the radio, I would pull over, stop the car, and just listen to it. Now I have it on my own mp3 - and on youtube, thanks to this great post! Thank you!

  • Good tune. ;)

  • dang, i reckon ole toobers got some problems.

  • i really dig this song ! always have. i bet feleena was one smokin hot little babe too !!

  • Im a gun happy, Copenhagen chewin', nails tough cowboy from AZ and somehow everytime I listen to this I get some of that wierd salty wet stuff come from my eye. Marty Robbins is a great songwriter in Louis La'moore style. Love it!..... I mean... its dang right!

  • Marty's fans should listen to Billy Walker's tribute song to Marty, where he incorporates Marty's song titles.

  • @ichbineintoober Takes one to know one

  • @ichbineintoober Whats the matter - jealous?

  • I dont know if any one has mentioned it, but he was shot for stealing a horse , not for murder.

  • one of the best singers ever....met him once at a small venue, great laugh and wonderful performer. I'll never forget the first time I attended the Grand Ol' Opry and he was the last performer of the night. He did the 'turn the clock back' as he always did. Miss you Marty.....

  • altho' my wife is from the Philippines, she loves MARTIN ROBBINS songs esp. MY WOMAN, MY WOMAN MY WIFE...i dunno Y :)

  • Thank you. Reminds me of my father blaring Marty Robbins through the house on Saturday afternoons. Rest in peace dad. I hope somewhere you can hear all the Marty Robbins you can possibly listen to.

  • Thumbs if you fell in love with Fellina too!

  • You should also listen to the cover of this song by Raoul Malo.

  • I have over 1000 LP's and a few hundred 45's. Blow CDs in the weeds.

  • The first #1 hit for the year 1960 and the first #1 hit of the sixties. What would this new decade bring in the music scene? Only time would tell. This hit by the late Marty Robbins would top the charts for 2 weeks. Marty, thanks for your contributions to the music industry. You are definitely missed.

  • I'm leaving today to take a friend to El Paso. For the past couple days I've had this song stuck in my head. lol. I had to listen to it again before I leave. Thanks for posting it.

  • out in the west texas town of el paso i fell in love with a mexican girl nighttime would find me in rosa's cantina ,usic would play and felina would whirl

  • my dad used to sing me this song as a lullaby before I drifted to sleep... I miss those good ol' days

  • Rarely are my posts short, I'm so overly loquacious and typacious(Iknow that's not a word) that it's considered a disorder called hypergraphia, but now that I have the long intro written I only have 1 more word; F'in TIMELESS

  • thanks that's the way i herd it when i was a kid..........i love it..

  • Marty Robbins...there's only one. I'm sure that the three thumbs downs were done by those that were intoxicated, that meant to click the thumbs up...we all make mistakes

  • Have to agree with LaroldC, I also loved "Devil Woman"...He was a very rare talent and I have loved his music since I was a little kid.

  • given it's a long number, but it appears columbia sort of time-compressed it for this lp release. i.e., not so fast-paced on the hit 45.

  • Six months today, you left this earth. Dad, this one's for you.

  • It sounds so much warmer on vinyl.

  • Verry Nice sound!

  • There was this one guy @CCC that would play this song all the time:)

  • i agree!

  • i am mexican girl and my boyfirend is american !

  • Lucky

  • On this session: BOB MOORE

Bob Moore for the Country Music Hall Of FAme! Join the CMA. Your vote counts.

  • Thanks for posting this. Great to see the old record player. Back in the seventies I played this particular song on my old record player so many times. Very nostalgic. Where have the years gone?

  • This is a great song!!! every man can relate . . .

  • This is such a depresing song.

  • great

  • loved it. . .great video. . very indie!

  • Nice to watch the record go round! Thanks!

  • this is real music

  • @bk2158 Way better than the crap smeared on the charts these days.

  • You were right on, BigCountry! "Ghost Train" is the song I remember. Wonderful to hear it again, as well as the flipside "Johnny Martinez." Thanx!

  • this bouncing song make me merrily.

  • My grandpa and I listen to Marty Robbins sitting on his porch. This is music from my childhood.

  • Does anyone remember a Marty Robbins song with the lyric "Heeeear...that lonesome whistle caaaaaling..."? That's all I remember!

  • Several of his songs talk about a Lonesome Wind or Whistle. I'd Start with Dusty Winds And maybe Ghost Train. Both of them Talk about it. I think the one your Looking for is Ghost Train though

  • there will never be another story teller such as this

  • Great C&W Classic! Marty was one of my favorite singers.

  • Fitzys song trent tavern circa1983 pricless memory

  • best song ever next to ---crazy--

  • The wonderful lead guitar work of Grady Martin, one of Nashville's finest!

  • Such a great childhood memory - and I just love the beautiful harmonies. Such fun to sing. My husband's from El Paso and this song always give him the giggles. We love it!

  • The ultimate Country Western Song!!!----xxWellfieldxx

  • Does anyone know who did the production on this song?

  • gotta love El Paso baby!!!! :)

born and raised here in the 915

    *_*

  • Great song. Great lyrics. Marty Robbin had it made. :)

  • Yes I was eight, when I first found this album in the collection of my late father. To me it has always been part of our conection.

  • i knew the words to this song when i was 8 (im only 22) i always listened to marty robbins with my grandma

  • Loved this song when I was a kid in the industrial north west of England,

    Visited El Paso last year.

  • I never knew this was C&W. I just knew I liked it. I was a radio switcher. Between KDIA & KYA 1950's/60's. Heard this on KYA

  • @shelovesrb7777

C&W...no way...it sounds like "musica ranchra" -mexican rancher's music except its sung in english but besides that it's traditional mexican...but it is nice all the same

  • I loved loved loved this song growing up.

  • This sounds like an original recording but it has been cut and has one line missing. After, "A handsome young stranger lay dead on the floor." the song continues, "Just for a moment I stood there in silence, shocked by the foul evil deed I had done." Many radio stations left that line out and even today you very seldom hear the correct version. Why would anyone retouch the Mona Lisa? RIP Marty

  • @anthonytorelli (from 4 months ago) "... Why would anyone retouch the Mona Lisa? RIP Marty..." I agree.

  • Funny, now that I realize it. I liked this song by Keith Urban's cover during the 2009 ACM Artist of the Decade. Don't like Keith, loved George, love this song.

  • Preciosa

  • For those wondering why vinyl sounds better, it is actually a superior format in that it captures a greater portion of the sound wave, which offers greatly increased clarity. Every generation, we have swapped recording quality for compactness, from vinyl to cassette to CD to mp3. That's why most bands who can afford it will record their master tracks on vinyl, and then scale down to other media later: it more accurately catalouges their work.

  • An evening out, Romance, Dancing at Roses, ends tragically for one cowboy and then for another, all for the LOVE, for Falina. A Simple yet such a hunting song. I feel like that Cowboy........

  • its timeless music because its speaks to all of us that loved someone that simply was never supposed to be ours. Good song reminds me of times in my childhood, when my father and I would listen to a lot of his records. Music is as close to time trave as one can get in my opinion.

  • terrafirma91 I couldn't agree more. A powerful song and a great melody will live on.

  • COMO SE DISE I LOVE IT desde la primera ves que escuche esta cansion me gusto mucho y ya tenia mucho que no la escuchava muy bie gracias

    KHARMAGON

  • Listen to those awesome guitar licks performed by Grady Martin. Classic Tex-Mex sound. Couple that with Marty's wholesome vocals, and the backing harmonies, and you have a classic song that will still sound good 100 years from now.

  • This version sounds even better because of the vinyl. Long live country's golden days!!!!

  • I love vinyl. My friends think I'm weird for liking music before my time, but I love it. I'll never get rid of my record player

  • HHSGDFootballJPD: Yeah, what is it about the vinyl that sounds so good? In many cases it sounds better than CD's. Who said things "get better" with the passing of time? This proves the axiom wrong.

  • 360 Sound

  • The best.

  • martys greatest.

  • Thank you so very much for this song, brings back a lot of memorys here in the badlands of New Mexico, and believe it or not...its still like that today:)

  • This is fabulous. Played exactly how it really was back in the day.....

    Thanks for sharing this!

  • This song brings back memories even for a old punker

  • Marty Robbins was one of a kind. He picked the right songs to match his talents, too. My other favorite from him is Devil Woman, which is also a perfect fit for his rich tone. When I was little, my mom would play Marty's music on our old wooden LP console (much like the one in this video) as she cleaned the house. I think his voice was one of the happiest sounds of my youth. Even now I spend a lot of sunsets on the deck of my home strumming my guitar and singing Marty's songs to myself.

  • @LaroldC well said.

  • Five stars ... Favorite....And Playlist ...Thanks for sending, Mary (ebfan41). I couldn't find the YT record version. Thanks for posting!

  • Terrific! I had forgotten the words. Thank you.

  • I love this version!

  • My grandpa's favorite artist--I listened to this when I was 10 years old about 44 years ago lol It brings a smile to my face thinking about how much enjoyment this music brought to him..thanks for posting this!

  • Thanks MrVinyl for posting this, my old old cassette tape wore out with all his great songs and I cant find them. I played 45's and 33's on the record player and my ears were tuned to harmonies so I was lucky to hear the good stuff at a young age, not like the crap that passes for music now.

  • This song's tight man. They don't make tunes like this anymore. This and Rain Drops Keep Falling on my Head. 2 classic ol songs! :-)

  • my grandpals favorite song who fought in ww2

  • same here

  • records are the best

  • same thing...my dad always played this and the hanging tree...

  • mine too

  • My Grandfather used to listen to this song all of the time when I was very young and it's always stuck with me. My father recently bought a Marty Robbins CD and it brings nostalgia every time I hear it. Great song by a great artist.

  • why would your uncle name his daughter El Paso????

  • What is the name of that album, and what other songs are on it?

  • It's a various artist record, I guess the name of it is " 20 greatest hits of country music on 2 records "

    a real fancy name haha

  • Thanks.

Yep, a real fancy name, I'll just dig up an album with this song on it then. I'm probably the only teenager to own more records then CD's.

  • I have a whole lot more records than cds too, they are a lot more fun to listen to

  • Amen to that, I'll take vinyl over CD's any day.

  • @pieman97405

    I don't own any CDs ( a bunch of MP3s on my computer )

But I do love to listen to my dad's vinyls from the 60s and 70s!

  • @pieman97405

False! I am also a teenager who owns more vinyls than CD's!

  • @pruneyfingers you can say anything on here dont make it so

  • @pieman97405 good stuff man. Aces.

  • @pieman97405 You crack me up.....a teenager who owns more records than CD's. The public needs to hear more postive stories about kids like you than all the crap we read about and watch. The news media implys by its very nature (crime reporting) that all kids are delinquents, all whites are racists, all blacks are drug dealers, and all Hispanics are criminals.

  • @50dcoop Same here. My videos prove it.

  • The album it originally was recorded for was titled "Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs". It was released in the spring of 1959 (That's right, 50 years ago). I guess in those days it took some talent to make a record. The album was remastered to CD in 1999 with 3 bonus tracks.

  • @pieman97405 a belated reply. The original is called Gunfigher Ballads and Trail songs circa 1960. If you like this song, the album is a must buy. Cool Water and Big Iron are two of the other songs.

  • muchas gracias....

  • what a great voice marty had

  • i like this song my uncle loved this song so he named his daughter after this song

  • i LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE this song! thank you!

  • Thanks for posting this....I love this song!

  • Thanx again this one awesome!

  • This one is somehow addictive, I've always liked this one, this record is one that my Grandpa gave me
