They actually usually are session guitarists and are extremely good.

He's an immense guitarist, but he needs to join a proper band so he can really make use of his skills.

As for the guitar - the cut-off neck is a good idea, but the lightweight & extra thin body will lose tone and sustain, and the whammy bar doesn't add a lot - les paul players usually play them for tone, not 'shredability'.

i think this guitar is great, and believe me i'm into classic les pauls. I think this guitar gives gibson lovers the options that some might have wanted for years. for instance, if i wanted to do divebombs...what would i have done before? buy a charvel? jackson? puke on that. nothing compares to a gibson les paul for tone, so, they built a custom guitar that gives me (the consumer) the option to purchase specific variabilities or hardware, to suit my desire.
