As far as the Russia vs Canada rivalry goes.. At their peak the Russian team was on EQUAL footing with Canada. They lost the Summit Series by a hair, and then won the 1981 Canada Cup, which featured the best pros from all the various nations. They also killed NHL all-star teams in 1979 and split a 2 game series with them in 1987. Canada is and will continue to be the top dog in hockey, but for a 25 yr period the Soviets were right there with them. It made for amazing hockey.
This was an AMAZING game. TWO GREAT TEAMS, playing high energy, physical hockey! I wish this had been a 7 game series. As a US born hockey fan I was thrilled! Canada is the GIANT of hockey and it was a thrill to beat the best hockey country in the world. I wish you guys wouldn't be so hateful to each other. Those games between Canad and the US were some of the most intense games I have ever seen & both sides wanted to win desperately. It was the biggest win in US hockey history because our best beat Canada's best. Mike Richter stole the show, and US fans carry that with pride.

As a Canadian I find it a Joke that the americans are not a dominant force in Hockey. The US has a population 10x greater than Canada and you can't put together a team that shreds everybody else? Sweden has the odd top player, but Germany, Finland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and switzerland are jokes in these tournaments.

no idea how that was a goalie interference call, but typically the refs help Canada (i.e. the ref's kick to Crosby in the gold medal game when the puck would have left the offensive zone) but as usual the US prevail, much like they will in the 2014 Olympics.

Russia won without Datsyuk and Malkin, instead Canada had all their stars in the team like Crosby, Iginla, Nash, Brodeur etc.
Everyone knows that north american hockey has never been and never will be as beautiful as russian hockey was/is and will always be (defence is weak, but that problem will be solved).

@Vanek4mvp The World Cup in 1996 was the biggest Hockey tournmnt in the world. The pros had not yet played in the Olympics and it was the only tournamnt with the top pros for every nation. Those games between Canad and the US were some of the most intense games I have ever seen & both sides wanted to win desperately. It was the biggest win in US hockey history because our best beat Canada's best. Mike Richter stole the show, and US fans carry that with pride.

As a Canadian I find it a Joke that the americans are not a dominant force in Hockey. The US has a population 10x greater than Canada and you can't put together a team that shreds everybody else? The US only made the finals because of how weak the rest of the world is at development. Aside from Canada and the Russians, there is nobody else to be worried about. Sweden has the odd top player, but Germany, Finland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and switzerland are jokes in these tournaments.

While I agree Canada is the premier hockey country (and always will be), you cannot discount American hockey as we have been more and more competitive with you in recent years. And that's a good thing, because look at the fantastic games in world juniors and olympics we have all had the pleasure of watching as a result!

I think we did great coming back from 2 goals down twice, and all the times we have been in the Finals, winning 5 straight, and winning the Olympics all these past years in Hockey Men's and Women's, World Cup of Hockey, and The World Hockey Championships 5 out of the last 7 years, I am proud to be Canadian, USA dominates in Swimming, Basketball, Football, and Baseball, well not the World Baseball Classic, we are proud to be Canadian!
