La voce di un cantante è come una faccia, c'è a chi piace e a chi non piace. Punto e basta.
I love this video of Domingo! I have never been a big Domingo fan because I felt he push his voice too much and it sounded hooty, strained and not supported well. In this video I feel he nailed it to the wall. His high notes are supported well and have a soaring, ping sound in them (not the usual hooty, throaty sound). 5 STARS FROM ME.

En la storia di questa opera abbiamo avuto artisti molto bene, tutto molto meglio di Domingo, Un Radamés grande, meno antica, quasi contemporaneo a Domingo el grande Franco Corelli, il grande G. Giacomini, ci sono altri che superano Domingo difficile da spiegare il motivo per cui è più presente nei medi, è che il vostro grande macchina?

Very well sung even if the end tone was cut short. Big deal. Live is dangerous and the end of this is tricky. as he went for the last tone he was concerned that it might shift in the throat. He shifts from a mixed tone to the top suddenly rather than having a bit more spin in the tone before going up. The trick is to float an open tone but not disconnected. The key is head tone has to bind together with the open ringing quality or one has to shift. A lovely interpretation. Super guy.
Domingo's mini skirt so distracted me that I had to drop the screen so as not to see him while he sang - and he did sing beautifully. Being that I am from Texas, I can't imagine the costume designer putting this on the stage in Houston.
Placido Domingo sings with ease here, ease that was not apparent in the MET broadcast of a a few years later. All three B flats a sung strongly, and he is not a "breathy" here as in the MET production. I can do without that costume however!
carissima, no non ho mai cantato con il microfono in teatro, una precisazione voglio fare: purtroppo per lavorare si sono cantate anche opere non sempre adatte alla propria voce. Io per esempio dopo aver cantato l'anna bolena, con tanto di mezze voci, e bel canto, il teatro dell'opera di Roma mi offrì l'Ernani di Verdi,fortunatamente me la cavai grazie anche all'ascolto di Bergonzi e non certo di Del Monaco o Corelli.Saluti cari .Piero Visconti.
non avevo capito, è vero! sono anni e anni che(salvo la barcaccia) non si sono ascoltati un disco di Del Monaco ,Corelli,gigli schipa lauri volpi ect.solo bocelli e i tre tenori, dove il più grande era sempre Lucianone Pavarotti con la sua tecnica perfetta.io rimasi allibito quando sentii la donna è mobile abbassata di tono nei concerti dei tre tenori!

Ognuno cerca di dare il meglio quando canta, e qualche volta può anche difettare in qualche recita! siamo umani. ,Anche del Monaco avava serate infelici,ma rimaneva sempre un grande tenore artista.

carissimi, io non ho mai detto che Del Monaco non aveva la tecnica del canto,aveva trovato una sua tecnica, un pò masochistica, perchè gli costava un sacrificio immenso il cantare in quel modo,infatti ha fatto carriera con il si bemolle, raramente il si naturale(lo ha detto lui stesso) Del Monaco è stato un esmpio di serietà artistica forse unica al mondo. io lo conoscevo bene, era una persona stupenda! domingo non poteva cantare tutti i giorni,non poteva sempre recuperare l'energia nervosa e fisica, e così qualche volta rischiava,ma per favore non dite che non aveva una sua tecnica di canto perchè sarebbe finito presto, invece ha cantato 40 anni!| anche Del monaco non aveva una tecnica di canto fisiologica ma una sua particolare tecnica che gli ha permesso di cantare un otello insuperabile,aveva scoperto la tecnica per la sua gola che ha funzionato perfettamente .saluti cari.

Del Monaco era anche baritono ,lo disse un grande foniatra che gli visitò le corde vocali,e poi non esageriamo con Domingo, gli acuti li aveva e come! quando era un pò stanco li forzava un pò ma li faceva.Poi non tocchiamo il tasto star sistem, che è sempre stato uno scandalo.(vedi la Fassbinder mozartiana che cantava amneris nell'aida e ci rimaneva dentro tutte le sere)
@mrodicalp Mario non era baritono,era un vero tenore drammatico!aveva una bellissima voce!domingo quando cantava diventava rosso come la bandiera cinese e poi non era nato tenore,era tutto falso in lui,il colore della sua voce, l'emissione,l'intonazione,era un prodotto "moderno"cioé,era "intelligente" /parlava.parlava e dava lezioni di canto e sopratutto consigli ai giovani tenori che avevano voci piu belle della sua e cantavano meglio di domingo/ era alto e sopratutto bello...

Per me Domingo aveva un bel timbro vocale e una notevole presenza scenica ma, purtroppo, la sua tecnica non gli ha mai consentito di potenziare bene il suo registro acuto ( molto probabilmente già corto per natura ), in quanto metteva sempre la voce nel naso ; ai tempi di PAMINGO poi cantava il grande N. NIKOLOV, un GENIO dell'opera. Saluti carissimi !!!

From the ..."ergerti un trono" until the end he clearly shows how handicapped is his voice in the upper notes. I figure he knows that therefore quite astutely shields behind his acting so we don't pinpoint his weakness. Unfortunately his last B flat always betrays him. Nevertheles, although is not a great tenor compared to Corelli, Monaco, Bjoerling and others on that level , he is extremely intelligent and "sells" his performance well. He knows how to entertain anyways. Good !!
Domingo aveva anche lui il difetto dei grandi tenori, cioè di dare più di quello che aveva della voce, e qualche volta rischiava,e poi il suo modo di cantare legato come una collana di perle è molto stancante. bravissimo comunque!

Domingo è stato un buon tenore nei suoi anni d'oro, e cioè fino ai primi anni '80 ( lo sentivo qualche giorno fa in " Gioconda " e confermo : bellissima voce e grande interprete, di sicuro MOLTO meglio del BARITONO Bergonzi ). Negli anni '70 e '80 però cantavo almeno una decina di tenori drammatici e lirico-spinti nettamente superiori a Domingo. Domingo " ha dato il sangue per il teatro lirico " ma ha anche saputo badare MOLTO bene ai propri interessi. Tanti carissimi saluti !!!
@31122051, io ho ben presente KRAUS in : " Figlia del reggimento," " Pescatori di perle," " L'Arlesiana," " Il barbiere di Siviglia " ... E moltissime altre opere adatte a un tenore LIRICO-LEGGERO e sono pronto a confermare quanto lei ha già detto : KRAUS nel suo repertorio era MERAVIGLIOSO, un vero " aristocratico del bel-canto " ( come fu definito quando, quel maledetto 10 settembre 1999, un male incurabile ce lo portò via per sempre ). Lei è veramente convinto che questa romanza si addica a un tenore lirico-leggero come Kraus ??? Sappiamo tutti e due che una scelta errata del repertorio può rivelarsi FATALE. Saluti.
@31122051 Gentilissimo 3112205,Lei ha ragione su Kraus, ma io intendevo il modo di interpretare il pezzo e non la vocalità,anche Domingo non era adatto a cantare l'otello,ma essendo reclamizzato dalle case discografiche,doveva risultare adatto per forza..Di tenori adatti al ruolo ce ne erano parecchi, ma venivano messi nel mucchio.Ricambio caramente i saluti. Mamma mia che cos'è quel vestitino celestino! Peggio della 'fatal pietra': avrebbe seppellito chiunqe. Invece lui no. Placido è vibrante, palpitante, credibile: forte di due cosce da calciatore trascina la mantellina da etoile e ne travolge il cattivo gusto. Poi passa all'azione e attacca gli spazi scenici e drammaturgici con composta naturalezza. Non cade nel trappolone della cantilena e canta con eleganza e rara sincerità. Rigorosamente ingolato, qui azzecca pure l'acuto! Grande!!!

Here Domingo is in absolute topform listen to his piano in 3:38-3:43 that´s his best mezza voce! If you compare that with Pavarotti´s Domingo´s soft singing is a joke!

Qui su " YoutTube " puoi trovare spezzoni di varie " Aide " davvero interessanti con i DIVINI F. Bonisolli e G. Giacomini. Lucianone dal mio punto di vista ha saputo cantare molto bene " Aida," benché, come opera, non fosse adatta al suo tipo di vocalità. Ciao !

Ahora hay tenores,mejores que Domingo, algunos;Marcelo Bedoni, Thiago Arancam,James Valenti,Marcelo Alvarez,Ramón Vargas, Luis Lima, Salvatore Fisichela, Bryan Hymel y otros,éstos estan triunfando;hay otros emergentes,como Marcos Zanini; hay que escucharlos. Hay interpretaciones muy buenas de Domingo cuando era joven, después buenas y ahora algunas.

Si es por sus interpretaciones, bueno el hecho que cante aún no significa que es el mejor, tiene muchas fallas cuando canta,generalmente toma mal las notas altas y en éstas le tirita la voz,ésta ,a veces es muy delgada, hay otras faltas, los más entendidos que yo se dan cuenta. Muchos que han sido superiores y ahora hay buenos tenores emergentes ; Domingo acapara escenerios, cantando o de director de orquesta u opera .¿sera que hay una empresa muy buena?

Yes. I think because a dramatic or spinto tenor generally don't can sing a Bb pianissimo (same problem about high B in Carmen's flower' song). In the XIX century tenors sung in falsetto. Today few tenors (Corelli, Pavarotti) start forte and fade in pianissimo (i think this is accettable)

His gesture, his body language, his acting is as hammy as his singing is awful: fluctuating intonation, muddled, monochromatic enunciation, uneven, hooted vocal production. Quién actua para para el público sabe que puede ser criticado y elogiado(como en todo trabajo); son profesionales, no aficionados. Estudian e interpretan, ese es su trabajo. Cuando se es calificado como "Grande no se puede dar el lujo de ser madiocre. Estas páginas son para ver, oir y comentar. This difficult aria shows all his vocal flaws but yet, he still pulls it off & was one of the best Rhadames of his generation. He really shines in the rest of the opera. He was great in the weighty singing demanded later. He was something.
No me parece mediocre,es facil descalificar sentaditos delante del ordenador..,gran versión, quizás otros lo han hecho mejor..Corelli,Bergonzi...,pero mediocre no. Seamos justos y cherentes.
MEDIOCRE, algunas notas le salen bién pero en general madiocre; el vestuario mal se ve casi ridiculo, no entreré en detealles, que lastima. Es una opera difícil, El GRAN MAESTRO FRANCO CORELLI y EL GRAN MARIO DEL MONACO la interpretaron maravillosa y magnificamente bién; esos son los parametros que hay que considerar.Me extraña sobremanera que lo encuentren tan bién a Placido Domingo.
This attempt at the aria was okay, I don't know why it was on my favourites, must have been an accident.
It's good for Domingo, but I don't like the backward sounding highnotes or the attempt at pianissimo towards the end. He did a better one on his first Met Radames broadcast, unfortunately he cracked quite badly on the last Bb, but the rest of the aria was better sung than here.
I see. Well, it wasn't Domingo's best recording of this, true. I have a few that are better, but I never memorized when they were recorded (compilation discs) so I couldn't say right now.
It was quite a good role for him, nothing (if I remember correctly) above the Bb. And when he was on a good day, he had a decent Bb. Bergonzi and Corelli are my favourite Radames, Tucker was good too.
Well, the final Bb allows a big breath before it. It's usually the first one which is the easiest because the tenor can breath and there isn't too much tension or fatigue from the rest of the aria. It's the second that is the killer, attacking a Bb cold is very hard apparently.
I guess Domingo attacks the last one well because of lots of breath.
Tenors say that this is the hardest aria in the repertoire.
I'm still not confident with my breathing to go above E. I have the notes, but I'm scared that I'll do myself harm without 100% perfect breath support. I can sing up to about A flat, but they aren't free notes. I'm a baritone, by the way.
actually Domingo used to regularly interpolate the massive Eb at the end and sing it flawlessly, the Eb was so gigantic the lighting fixtures rattled right off the ceiling, regularly crushing and mangling people in the parterre...

As for the singing - the start of 2nd minute was a bit pitchy.. and that last note was so weak - for the love of God, even a boiled frog would have more strength in it.

Digan lo que digan, Domingo sigue siendo el mejor. Proyección es lo que Domingo más tiene, y ya el diafragma lo tiene super controlado, sino no podría cantar como lo hace. Y ademas de todo actuando, que mas podés pedir. Si quieren ver a alguien que tiene una perfecta columna de aire, mirenlo a Pavarotti, que ni siquiera se mueve (no es de ninguna manera una ofensa hacia él).
Aprende un poco de técnica vocal "in maschera", apoyo diafragmático de la columna de aire, impostación, proyección, agilidad... y sabrás lo deficiente que es la manera de cantar de Domingo (y si tienes un poco de cerebro, que temo que no). No tienes ni puta idea de canto.
Ma vi sentite ? Gli acuti stretti, gli acuti larghi, la voce nel naso, il suono di quà , il suono di là..Ma per favore, siete grotteschi come grotteschi sono gli insegnanti di canto e i critici che sparano simili idiozie ! La voce di un cantante è come una faccia, c'è a chi piace e a chi non piace. Punto e basta.

I love this video of Domingo! I have never been a big Domingo fan because I felt he push his voice too much and it sounded hooty, strained and not supported well. In this video I feel he nailed it to the wall. His high notes are supported well and have a soaring, ping sound in them (not the usual hooty, throaty sound). 5 STARS FROM ME.

Dopo 2 anni ho sentito e visto, ancora una volta, questo video e ripeto la mia opinione precedente; e Mediocre. Ridicola la vestimenta non debió aceptarla. En la storia di questa opera abbiamo avuto artisti molto bene, tutto molto meglio di Domingo, Un Radamés grande, meno antica, quasi contemporaneo a Domingo el grande Franco Corelli, il grande G. Giacomini, ci sono altri che superano Domingo difficile da spiegare il motivo per cui è più presente nei medi, è che il vostro grande macchina?

Very well sung even if the end tone was cut short. Big deal. Live is dangerous and the end of this is tricky. as he went for the last tone he was concerned that it might shift in the throat. He shifts from a mixed tone to the top suddenly rather than having a bit more spin in the tone before going up. The trick is to float an open tone but not disconnected. The key is head tone has to bind together with the open ringing quality or one has to shift. A lovely interpretation. Super guy.

Domingo's mini skirt so distracted me that I had to drop the screen so as not to see him while he sang - and he did sing beautifully. Being that I am from Texas, I can't imagine the costume designer putting this on the stage in Houston.

Placido Domingo sings with ease here, ease that was not apparent in the MET broadcast of a a few years later. All three B flats a sung strongly, and he is not a "breathy" here as in the MET production. I can do without that costume however!

carissima, no non ho mai cantato con il microfono in teatro, una precisazione voglio fare: purtroppo per lavorare si sono cantate anche opere non sempre adatte alla propria voce. Io per esempio dopo aver cantato l'anna bolena, con tanto di mezze voci, e bel canto, il teatro dell'opera di Roma mi offrì l'Ernani di Verdi,fortunatamente me la cavai grazie anche all'ascolto di Bergonzi e non certo di Del Monaco o Corelli.Saluti cari .Piero Visconti.

carissima, io sono per i miei idoli: caruso e gigli, ma non mi permetto di dare giudizi prevenuti sui miei colleghi. Ognuno cerca di dare il meglio quando canta, e qualche volta può anche difettare in qualche recita! siamo umani. ,Anche del Monaco avava serate infelici,ma rimaneva sempre un grande tenore artista.

cantavano senza microfoni e avevano bellissime voci!erano veri Artisti onesti nel loro arte e conoscevano il mestiere!non si nascondevano dietro il microfono...negli anni 50-60-70 i teatri non erano ancora amplificati...
per questa ragione non vado piu nel teatro.

carissimi, io non ho mai detto che Del Monaco non aveva la tecnica del canto,aveva trovato una sua tecnica, un pò masochistica, perchè gli costava un sacrificio immenso il cantare in quel modo,infatti ha fatto carriera con il si bemolle, raramente il si naturale(lo ha detto lui stesso) Del Monaco è stato un esmpio di serietà artistica forse unica al mondo. io lo conoscevo bene, era una persona stupenda! domingo non poteva cantare tutti i giorni,non poteva sempre recuperare l'energia nervosa e fisica, e così qualche volta rischiava,ma per favore non dite che non aveva una sua tecnica di canto perchè sarebbe finito presto, invece ha cantato 40 anni!| anche Del monaco non aveva una tecnica di canto fisiologica ma una sua particolare tecnica che gli ha permesso di cantare un otello insuperabile,aveva scoperto la tecnica per la sua gola che ha funzionato perfettamente .saluti cari.

Del Monaco era anche baritono ,lo disse un grande foniatra che gli visitò le corde vocali,e poi non esageriamo con Domingo, gli acuti li aveva e come! quando era un pò stanco li forzava un pò ma li faceva.Poi non tocchiamo il tasto star sistem, che è sempre stato uno scandalo.(vedi la Fassbinder mozartiana che cantava amneris nell'aida e ci rimaneva dentro tutte le sere)

Per me Domingo aveva un bel timbro vocale e una notevole presenza scenica ma, purtroppo, la sua tecnica non gli ha mai consentito di potenziare bene il suo registro acuto ( molto probabilmente già corto per natura ), in quanto metteva sempre la voce nel naso ; ai tempi di PAMINGO poi cantava il grande N. NIKOLOV, un GENIO dell'opera. Saluti carissimi !!!

From the ..."ergerti un trono" until the end he clearly shows how handicapped is his voice in the upper notes. I figure he knows that therefore quite astutely shields behind his acting so we don't pinpoint his weakness. Unfortunately his last B flat always betrays him. Nevertheles, although is not a great tenor compared to Corelli, Monaco, Bjoerling and others on that level , he is extremely intelligent and "sells" his performance well. He knows how to entertain anyways. Good !!

Domingo aveva anche lui il difetto dei grandi tenori, cioè di dare più di quello che aveva della voce, e qualche volta rischiava,e poi il suo modo di cantare legato come una collana di perle è molto stancante. bravissimo comunque!

Domingo è stato un buon tenore nei suoi anni d'oro, e cioè fino ai primi anni '80 ( lo sentivo qualche giorno fa in " Gioconda " e confermo : bellissima voce e grande interprete, di sicuro MOLTO meglio del BARITONO Bergonzi ). Negli anni '70 e '80 però cantavo almeno una decina di tenori drammatici e lirico-spinti nettamente superiori a Domingo. Domingo " ha dato il sangue per il teatro lirico " ma ha anche saputo badare MOLTO bene ai propri interessi. Tanti carissimi saluti !!!

@31122051, io ho ben presente KRAUS in : " Figlia del reggimento," " Pescatori di perle," " L'Arlesiana," " Il barbiere di Siviglia " ... E moltissime altre opere adatte a un tenore LIRICO-LEGGERO e sono pronto a confermare quanto lei ha già detto : KRAUS nel suo repertorio era MERAVIGLIOSO, un vero " aristocratico del bel-canto " ( come fu definito quando, quel maledetto 10 settembre 1999, un male incurabile ce lo portò via per sempre ). E' semplice : trent'anni fa i TENORI DRAMMATICI cantavano il repertorio drammatico, oggi i tenori drammatici cantano da BARITONI, i tenori lirici da tenori drammatici e i tenori leggeri da tenori lirici. Lei è veramente convinto che questa romanza si addica a un tenore lirico-leggero come Kraus ??? Sappiamo tutti e due che una scelta errata del repertorio può rivelarsi FATALE. Saluti.

@31122051 Gentilissimo 3112205,Lei ha ragione su Kraus, ma io intendevo il modo di interpretare il pezzo e non la vocalità,anche Domingo non era adatto a cantare l'otello,ma essendo reclamizzato dalle case discografiche,doveva risultare adatto per forza..Di tenori adatti al ruolo ce ne erano parecchi, ma venivano messi nel mucchio.Ricambio caramente i saluti. Mamma mia che cos'è quel vestitino celestino! Peggio della 'fatal pietra': avrebbe seppellito chiunqe. Invece lui no. Placido è vibrante, palpitante, credibile: forte di due cosce da calciatore trascina la mantellina da etoile e ne travolge il cattivo gusto. Poi passa all'azione e attacca gli spazi scenici e drammaturgici con composta naturalezza. Non cade nel trappolone della cantilena e canta con eleganza e rara sincerità. Rigorosamente ingolato, qui azzecca pure l'acuto! Grande!!!

Here Domingo is in absolute topform listen to his piano in 3:38-3:43 that´s his best mezza voce! If you compare that with Pavarotti´s Domingo´s soft singing is a joke!

Potrà non esser il migliore, ma che bella voce! un timbro così non ce l'ha nessuno.. potrebbe anche cominciare a dire parole sensa senso, il risultato sarebbe lo stesso, voce stupenda.

@31122051 Carissimo amico ti dirò ke anke a me in Aida x antonomasia piace Corelli però,x citarne uno contemporaneo,direi subito Nicola Martinucci ke ha la stessa età di Domingo.Trovo molto più squillante e corretto tecnicamente il suo Radames ke quello di Domingo.Ma aggiungo ke Domingo nn mi dispiace in Aida, forse solo quest'aria qui la canta un po' a stento,per via dei pericolosi acuti a freddo,ma poi tutto il resto lo canta discretamente.Oltre ad essere UN GRANDISSIMO ATTORE!!!Saluti

@pavarottithebest : sono pienamente d'accordo con te, per me hai ragione in tutto. Il Radames di N. Martinucci e assolutamente FANTASTICO. Qui su " YoutTube " puoi trovare spezzoni di varie " Aide " davvero interessanti con i DIVINI F. Bonisolli e G. Giacomini. Lucianone dal mio punto di vista ha saputo cantare molto bene " Aida," benché, come opera, non fosse adatta al suo tipo di vocalità. Ciao !

a todos los entendidos que comentan quien es mejor o peor, que la voz de aqui,las notas agudas de allá,QUE OPINÓLOGOS SOMOS TODOS,desde abajo del escenario somos geniales ,pero hay que tener coraje,actitud,carisma y un sinfin de cualidades para estar sobre el escenario.En mi humilde opinión, me atrevo a decir desde la butaca me gusta o no, porque mi modo de pensar es sólo mío y no es absoluto.Y me banco el huracán de respuesta que genere con lo que creo.

31122051 estoy plenamente de acuerdo con usted y agrego a Pedro La Virgen, Sandor Konya,J. Aragal,hay más muy superiores. a Domingo. Ahora hay tenores,mejores que Domingo, algunos;Marcelo Bedoni, Thiago Arancam,James Valenti,Marcelo Alvarez,Ramón Vargas, Luis Lima, Salvatore Fisichela, Bryan Hymel y otros,éstos estan triunfando;hay otros emergentes,como Marcos Zanini; hay que escucharlos. Hay interpretaciones muy buenas de Domingo cuando era joven, después buenas y ahora algunas.

¿ Domingo es grande,? . Si es por sus interpretaciones, bueno el hecho que cante aún no significa que es el mejor, tiene muchas fallas cuando canta,generalmente toma mal las notas altas y en éstas le tirita la voz,ésta ,a veces es muy delgada, hay otras faltas, los más entendidos que yo se dan cuenta. Muchos que han sido superiores y ahora hay buenos tenores emergentes ; Domingo acapara escenerios, cantando o de director de orquesta u opera .¿sera que hay una empresa muy buena?

The final Bflat Verdi marked to be sung pianissimo. I don't think I've ever heard a tenor adhere to that.

Yes. I think because a dramatic or spinto tenor generally don't can sing a Bb pianissimo (same problem about high B in Carmen's flower' song). In the XIX century tenors sung in falsetto. Today few tenors (Corelli, Pavarotti) start forte and fade in pianissimo (i think this is accettable)

Ël tiene buena tecnica, tal vez por eso, "aún canta, pese a su edad 68 años " como opina más de alguien, otra opinión " es el mejor en estos momentos ".pero eso no significa que sea el mejor, está lejos de eso. es como decir,"es lo que hay no más"; no es así tampoco. Sin nombrar a los que ya no cantan y muy superiores a él; ahora hay muy buenos tenores que estan interpretando operas con éxito, es que Domingo es muy mediatico desde "Los 3 tenores". Cordialmente ,sin enojarse.

His gesture, his body language, his acting is as hammy as his singing is awful: fluctuating intonation, muddled, monochromatic enunciation, uneven, hooted vocal production. In other words, a mess, perhaps a fine mess, but a mess no less. But then again, he's been doing that for four decades and continues to do so.

one last thing, this aria has, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful passages in the entire repertoire, the part leading up to the first Bb:

this is spectacularly sung... the timbre here is literally amazing, whether your a fan or not. the sound of the voice here is PURE Radames...
first two Bb are excellent! especially the second one, where you just explode into the massive Bb. last Bb was OK.
costume is peculiar to say the least. :-D
but this is still awesome, totally awesome, 5/5

En esta misma página escucha a uno bueno, Giuseppe Giacomini y está, también, el Gran Maestro Franco Corelli, hay otros , escuchalos y me entenderas, lo mismo digo a los que se molestan por mi opinión de Domingo. Quién actua para para el público sabe que puede ser criticado y elogiado(como en todo trabajo); son profesionales, no aficionados. Estudian e interpretan, ese es su trabajo. Cuando se es calificado como "Grande no se puede dar el lujo de ser madiocre. Estas páginas son para ver, oir y comentar. Insisto en que hay que escuchar a otros tenores y varios son superiores a el Gran P. Domingo en esta aria, especialmente. Con afecto..pieri

This difficult aria shows all his vocal flaws but yet, he still pulls it off & was one of the best Rhadames of his generation. He really shines in the rest of the opera. He was great in the weighty singing demanded later. He was something.

MEDIOCRE, algunas notas le salen bién pero en general madiocre; el vestuario mal se ve casi ridiculo, no entreré en detealles, que lastima. Es una opera difícil, El GRAN MAESTRO FRANCO CORELLI y EL GRAN MARIO DEL MONACO la interpretaron maravillosa y magnificamente bién; esos son los parametros que hay que considerar.Me extraña sobremanera que lo encuentren tan bién a Placido Domingo.

This attempt at the aria was okay, I don't know why it was on my favourites, must have been an accident.
It's good for Domingo, but I don't like the backward sounding highnotes or the attempt at pianissimo towards the end. He did a better one on his first Met Radames broadcast, unfortunately he cracked quite badly on the last Bb, but the rest of the aria was better sung than here.

I see. Well, it wasn't Domingo's best recording of this, true. I have a few that are better, but I never memorized when they were recorded (compilation discs) so I couldn't say right now.

It was quite a good role for him, nothing (if I remember correctly) above the Bb. And when he was on a good day, he had a decent Bb. Bergonzi and Corelli are my favourite Radames, Tucker was good too.

Well, the final Bb allows a big breath before it. It's usually the first one which is the easiest because the tenor can breath and there isn't too much tension or fatigue from the rest of the aria. It's the second that is the killer, attacking a Bb cold is very hard apparently.
I guess Domingo attacks the last one well because of lots of breath.
Tenors say that this is the hardest aria in the repertoire.

Thanks for the info. Yes, he struggles on the second Bb. It sounds like he was going for the Alfredo Kraus "ay" approach, but didn't succeed.

What are your high notes like?
I'm still not confident with my breathing to go above E. I have the notes, but I'm scared that I'll do myself harm without 100% perfect breath support. I can sing up to about A flat, but they aren't free notes. I'm a baritone, by the way.

actually Domingo used to regularly interpolate the massive Eb at the end and sing it flawlessly, the Eb was so gigantic the lighting fixtures rattled right off the ceiling, regularly crushing and mangling people in the parterre...

Oh, my God... what in the hell were they thinking? This is more than humiliating. For me (not a Domingo fan) this was a good laugh, still - terrible. Who was the idiotic costume designer? If they knew what they did to him... Jesus!
As for the singing - the start of 2nd minute was a bit pitchy.. and that last note was so weak - for the love of God, even a boiled frog would have more strength in it.

I agree with you 100%! I'm crying, I'm laughing so hard!!! This is beyond absurd. Reminds me of one of those old 50s B-movies, "Invasion of the Purple People-Eaters," or in this case, "Royal Blue People-Eater." LOL
I'd love to hear some comments about the musicality of the great Domingo now. Surely, there's some way we could nominate this for a Razzie Award, It's got to the worst clip of "Aida" or any other opera I've ever seen. hahahahaha Someone get me off the floor PLEASE!!!

Digan lo que digan, Domingo sigue siendo el mejor. Proyección es lo que Domingo más tiene, y ya el diafragma lo tiene super controlado, sino no podría cantar como lo hace. Y ademas de todo actuando, que mas podés pedir. Si quieren ver a alguien que tiene una perfecta columna de aire, mirenlo a Pavarotti, que ni siquiera se mueve (no es de ninguna manera una ofensa hacia él).

Aprende un poco de técnica vocal "in maschera", apoyo diafragmático de la columna de aire, impostación, proyección, agilidad... y sabrás lo deficiente que es la manera de cantar de Domingo (y si tienes un poco de cerebro, que temo que no). No tienes ni puta idea de canto.
