He even admits the following, despite what the movie told you. 1: He never SAW anything. 2: He was knowingly toying with his mind because he was able, because he had Aspergers syndrome and was a logician and nobody was taking his work seriously (though it later won a nobel prize) and 3: He never took a psychiatric drug past 1970, despite the claim in the movie that he said he was on a "newer" "medication" (Chemical lobotomies)
People with this disease find it hard to realize they actually are sick. To them its all real.
