  • Show looks amazingly like their show I saw in Chicago at the Aragon Ballroom. $5 for the show. I forget who led off for them, might have been Taj Mahal and Van Morrison.

  • Saw them in Alexandria, Virginia in '68 and was amazed at their performance. They were the warm-up band for Big Brother and the Holding Company with Janis Joplin.

  • Niraham- Clear glass baking dish, food coloring in water, oil and an overhead projector onto a movie screen. Have someone swirl the mixture around and project it onto the screen. That was the "light show" our band used in the 60's. I saw this show at the Grande ball Room in Cleveland 1968.

  • How can I do similar illuminations to those at 1:15 ?

  • some love and props to Mickey Waller one of the greatest drummers of all time, played on most of Rods good solo records till he went disco, had a great session career, like Mitch, passed way before his time, but didn't get the credit, I've never seen Beck or Stewart mention Mickey, so shame on them...RIP Mick Waller, you were loved man...

  • @mppaiges In total agreement on Mick Waller . Such a loose style yet right on top of it at the same time . One of my major influences as a drummer .

  • The Jeff Beck Group was an absolutely great & underrated group, then and today. It's a bloody shame that they only produced two albums; "Truth" & "Beck Ola". Although Beck was already a well-know, established guitarist, I think this group certainly helped launch Jeff's amazing future "solo" efforts. I guess all was not lost with their demise, though, as it also helped spawn The Faces; and with Hopkins & Waller going on to their own successful careers.

  • Saw them twice with this line up. Amazing shows. Opened for Janis Joplin and blew her off the stage. Waller was an incrdible drummer very much in the style of MItch Mitchell great jazz figures in a rock format. . . This band was a real pioneer but not many followed their lead. . . Hard Blues as opposed to Hard Rock. . . Zepplin was a great band but they went a totally different direction.

  • i love jeff beck man and idc what any1 says rod might suck now with his solo shit but this and him with the faces is some of the best rock i've ever herd

  • Man this bring back memories. I remember seeing these guys when they played Laural Md the year of Woodstock and again in Altantic City.

  • rockers bag on rod but truth be told the guy can do it all and did

  • Very hippie footage

  • At first it sounded like Ronnie Lane on bass. Then saw Ron Wood! Some great bass lines. Check out Wood, Lane, Stewart and Co. doing Maybe I'm Amazed.

  • Awesome

  • YEAH BUTT, THE DOPEY PISTOL PAID 2 GIT IN!! SUCKAS.

  • look @ Blind Faith

  • GRANDIOSOS !

  • This really works well

  • Didn't know this existed! Stunning version with Rod on vocals.

Check this out: a British female producer recreates the sound of Rod for a new generation. In YouTube, check out 'TIMEKODE, ROD STEWART' and listen to

    'YOU'VE BROKEN THRU'...

  • Heard them live a lot--Wow-

when Led Zep came out most people laughed. Such a pale, kitschy rip on Beck and Rod.

  • @jblacktree and now , 300 million albums later , Page is laughing

  • @Cincinnatus1869 Rihanna's last album outsold any Zepp album so possibly not the measure of great. Zep is great but stands on their own. I love Beck but think most everything he's done over the last 20 years blows away Jeff Beck Group IMHO. Jeff's in the Hall as a solo artist and with Yardbirds while Queen, Chicago, Bad Company and others aren't in at all!

  • In the late sixties i saw some great bands of the time. Hendix, canned Heat, Iron Butterfly, Cream, Steppinwolk, Johnny Winter John lennon etc but Jeff beck group with rod and the boys on tour doing their Truth album was the best concert i ever saw.

  • Great video. Thanks for posting!

While the audio is from Truth, the video seems to be footage from the

October 18/19, 1968 shows at the Fillmore East.

Pix from one of those shows can be seen on Flickr - search for "Jeff Beck Fillmore East"

  • @grantdabassman I was at the first show and Stewart had so much stage fright that Beck had to pull him out from behind the amps. We thought it was some psychodelic theatrics, but later found out that he was really nervous - this was Stewart's breakout performance as a rock star.

  • Truth and Beck-Ola were the best albums I ever owned. Between Beck and Jack Bruce I wanted to play music so bad; I was torn between bass and guitar, so I got both! These albums also showed that R. Stewart had talent at one time! LOL.

  • is there anyone out there that thinks that Ron Wood was a better, more interesting bassist than the Keith Richard imitator he later became?

and yes I love the original and other incarnations of the Jeff Beck Group up to the present.

  • This was when Rod was still a rocker.Saw Jeff in June last year in D.C...he's still unreal.

  • Why is it that Yardbirds songs performed by former Yardbirds members once they leave the Yardbirds are much better than the originals? Am I right or just high or something?

  • I think the hold up is that they were short lived - only two albums with this lineup. They were great and influential but I surmise in the eyes of the judges not enough longevity or broad catalogue of music.

  • @yankeelawdog Let's hope all these Hall of Fame voters wake up and realize its not all about record sales but more about talent and being influential to others. Every great guitarist in the world knows about The Jeff Beck Group.

  • @yankeelawdog aye but who are the judges? and what are the credentials tae get in?This is just amazin' stuff from some talented artists...

  • @yankeelawdog they gave the Sex Pistols the Hall of Fame and they only recorded one full album.

  • @fumetti sex pistols sucked..R&R hall of fame is BS......easier to just go to a hard rock cafe LOL

  • @yankeelawdog

That's absurd. They invented heavy rock, for chris#'s sake! Truth is one of the seminal rock albums, in the top 10 of all time. A killer! Not in the Hall of Fame! Infamy! Infamy!

  • @bellevue46 I see the influence as Yardbirds --> Zep & Beck Group & Deep Purple.

  • @zepphead1981 Yes, this was first done by The Yardbirds and beck was a Yardbird.

  • Kiddies, Page admits using this band & the Truth album as the blueprint for Led Zep.

  • Keith Moon on drums?

  • @indyandsam Moon actually only played on Beck's Bolero - though Beck has since stated that he really wanted to get Moon out of the Who and into a group with him.

  • @indyandsam Nope; on this song (and on most of this album), it was Mickey Waller, an amazing drummer who has been with Brian Auger earlier and Rod Stewart later. You can hear him on Stewart's version of "I'm Losing You". Criminally unrecognized.

  • complete with the old light shows, god I miss these days.

  • Before anyone knew of Rod Stewart.

  • @zepphead1981 Jeff Beck was in the Yardbirds

  • Before Rod crossed over to the dark side, he actually made a pretty decent hard rock singer.

  • OHHHH HELLLLL YEHHHHH!!!!!! Play that Bass Ronnie!!!!

  • Wow, Before my time. I saw Jeff live in Pittsburgh, Spectacular Show!

  • Saw this show in Chicago in '68. Taj Mahal and Van Morrison were the lead ups. Taj was great. Morrison struggled. This show totally rocked.

  • I saw them live at the Fillmore East in NYC. Rod Stewart came on in a pink crushed velvet suit. I've always liked Ron Wood as a bass player and Beck has just always been the best. Great Album!

  • @mikey77224 I'm jealous. Unfortunately, I was born in '67 so I couldn't see them back then. Did get the chance to see Beck in the 90's and Woody with the Stones as well.

  • @mikey77224 Ya ,seen them right Before on L.I. We walked to the Show. Acoustics got the better of them or too much weed. Nonetheless History and Rod and Ron were virtually Unknown. Beck always was an Innovator...Peace...

  • Imo this kicks the shit out of the original. Stewart's vocals, the lower key, and the slowed tempo make it so much heavier!!

  • Could time make man more wise............

  • Those were the days my friend

  • dont forget John Paul Jones was on this album also

  • Ronnie is on the BASS and what a kickass bassline

  • ditto on hall of fame, dont worry, they know it

  • He was a lot cooler doing this than trying to be what he is not doing fusion which he has pretty much done ever since. Beck is what I consider to be the most important thing a musician can be in this day and age, so "stylized that he is recognizable". More important that a bazillion chops. Kenny G has chops ...so what?

  • top 20 songs of all time!period!

  • looks like the filmore east with the joshua light show wow

  • Oh, just read that Micky Waller passed away in 2008. So sad. I always appreciated his work in "Truth" album :(

  • Just great. The drumming in this song is simply mesmerizing, not to mention Rod and Jeff :)

  • Great album, start to finish. Rod Stewart at his best. I bought this album in Japan in 1969 and BLEW OUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD. My relatives were appalled.

  • Now this is some heavy music.

  • "rod stewart and i have a love-hate relationship. he loves me and i hate him." - jeff beck

  • I just looked at the R7R HAll of FAme and it says Jeff Beck was inducted into the Hall

  • it is an absolute shame that they are NOT in the HALL OF FAME...IT SUCKS!!!!

  • Saw them perform in'69 at the Singer bowl in queens. A fantastic show. Led Zep came out and Page Beck and Alvin Lee jammed on "Jailhouse rock". Beck murdered them. What happened later you would never beileve.

  • I did not know this song was from This group when first heard it in the 70's and again in the 80's. I thought it was the Small Faces when I read last year that he was in that group too. I did not know the name of i and thought it would end up sounding simular to the Yard Birds version when I saw the name of this song in the list of videos..

  • TRUTH

  • I always come back .

  • Wow....Rod at his best...to bad this group could not stay together. Unfortunate their personalities did not blend as well as their talents.

  • This is so fucking hot. Thanks for uploading this

  • He was amazing during this time, then he hooked up w/the small faces.

  • ...Mickey Waller.....one of the greats....r.i.p.

  • Make me young again.

  • love love love the drums on this! Waller is Mitch Moon or Keith Mitchell, your choice.

  • @aroxon Waller is more Mitch Mitchell, you can hear his jazz approch. Keith Moon has a different style. Anywa, I love this drummers!

  • @oclero I can understand why you'd say more Mitch more than Keith, but I definitely hear Moonie's manical influence.

    -cheers

  • Great drumming! In the same league as Mitch Mitchell!

  • Suh WEET! I used to play this version when I was a kid in the '80's. Great remake of the Yardbirds tune! great post!

  • This clip will remain forever. Ledgendary nomatter when even in the year of 7777

  • Coming out of that jam and that fabulous drumming and HOLDING BACK on that 3 figure like that...man, that's some drumming!

  • GREAT F'IN BAND!!!

  • Mick Waller looks like a professor of drumology.

  • this is the heart of rock as far as I'm concerned - Marshall stacks, virtuoso playing, a cocky stylish singer, melodic energetic bassline, drum rolls and flourishes, guitar sounds never heard before by the human race - a hallmark moment in the history of the world - hot damn!

  • Frank Zappa told me once on a radio show that 1) Major was neutral, 2) Minor was serious and 3) Mixolydian was "pure love." This is pure love. This is also the post-LSD version as compared to the pre-LSD "pop" hit that preceded it. Just my personal feelings about it, I'm not sure the artists would agree at all.

  • This is a great ending to a great cover of a great song. Thx much for posting this tune from the Truth album!

  • this is all good and what not but the best recordings of jeff and rod can't be posted on you tube. copyright bulloney. there at one time was a super electric live performance of this song and let me love you, too. they completely jammed and proved to me that jeff could play better live, than in the studio. I'm bored with you tube music now because they don't have those live vids of the old jeff beck group anymore. they even had a performance of the new jeff beck group at a finland festival. gone

  • an endearment xx

  • Now this was when Rod Stewart was doing the cool stuff.

  • @BBQFanNo1 You got that right. Why did Rod end up doing so much schmaltzy stuff???

  • @SwedeProof he sold out, cashed in :/

i hope that money made him happy

  • @valeo626 Agreed. Guess he needed the dough to support the multitude of children with a multitude of girlfriends and wives...but he was great back in the day.

  • @SwedeProof And Still is

  • @valeo626 In my opinion the reason that Jeff has not reached the level renoun as players that have far less talent than he has is because he has never sold out.... he doesn't care if people want to hear Instrumental songs he plays what he feels like playing. He could hook up with any number of singers (such as Rod) but he is about playing what he wants to play and if the masses don't like it he's fine with that, to him it's about "Not" selling out, and I find that very appealing......

  • @motownharry the masses? How do You know what level of renown he has reached .People have different tastes .Jeff Beck has been well liked and appreciated for years . Some people ! Talking about music is like dancing about architecture

  • @valeo626 Exactly what "Money" are you talking about? What act of "Selling Out" netted him "What Money"? Please tell me what action did Jeff take that gives you the idea that he "Sold Out"? I just bought Clapton's Guitar Festival 2010 DVD and Jeff is in it, he appears to be the same Jeff, I don't see any "Money" hanging out of his pockets, or 6 pounds Gold hanging from his neck like some of the more "Famous" folks getting Hot Press these days. I'm not just ranting, I would like real answers.

  • @motownharry LOL i was talking about rod stewart, see SwedeProof's comment.

  • @valeo626 He sold out by ditching the lead singers and NOT writing top 40-type music?! I could be wrong, but I believe it works the other way around. Was this a joke?

  • @dantean yes you could be wrong

  • @1lightheaded About how selling out works? I don't think so. Remember the band Journey? They started out as heavy progressive blues rock before selling out by bringing IN a lead singer to warble about love, daffodils, & buttercups. Boom! From 2,000 seat venues where I used to see them, to 100,000 seat stadiums (where you couldn't pay me to go listen to the muck they had come to spew). I don't see how Jeff Beck getting AWAY from the front man to explore guitar harmonics and distortion equates.

  • @dantean Totally understand your meaning. I stand corrected. This particular video distorted my response...meant to say he's still well liked for what he did BACK THEN! (Not so much now.)

  • @BBQFanNo1 odd that Rod doing cool stuff is so completely tied to working with Jeff Beck. LOL

  • @br0therfrank13 dont forget the faces

  • @bluesfunky009 Rod was great maybe the best but its a shame Jeff and Rod didn't stay together longer. The music possibilites are really staggering along the lines of "what if Jimi had lived longer" yaddah... I am bewildered by what became of a truely great rock and roll singer... mind as well be a Pat Boone tribute band now.. Looking forward to the new album tho

  • @br0therfrank13 Just to really drive you mad with what-ifs.....imagine "Cause We've Ended as Lovers" with Rod on vocals...

  • there's really no other version than this one

  • Great! I saw this group in concert back in 1968, one of the most impressive bands I ever heard, and of course Beck shaped the course of my guitar playing life.

  • quite possibly the best blues/ hard rock song i know. Just the perfect amount of Jeff becks precision and Rod's loose, free voice. Not to mention Ronnie Wood adding his stamp of excellence into this remake. Thanks for loading the video!

Oh ya...I made out with Rod once too.....I'm a guy....LOL....kidding.....but if i was gay......

  • Fuck yeah to you for loading this. Hopefully more people watch, Jeff Beck Group criminally underappreciated

  • Its great to see Rod the mod all young.. Very visceral song...grabs the worldly grit and squeezes it into melodic longing..i got to make out with rod once

  • @vilyn2n

This is a few years after "Rod the Mod"...

  • @asmorgan88 This is way before Rod the Mod.

  • @texadillo53

    HAHAH - Absolutely not!

The mod thing was dead by 1967...

Nearly all of his "mod" stuff was done in 1965, and during the latter part of that year, Rod Stewart appeared in a documentary about the mod scene.

By 1968 - Rod was no longer "Rod the Mod".

Look it up if you don't believe...and maybe you should actually go listen to his "mod" stuff.
