@snakelover127 No, actually they each eat two colossal frozen thawed rats each, every two weeks during the spring and summer and less than that in the winter. Boa Constrictor Occidentalis can reach 14 feet and can weigh over 100 pounds. They aren't like the common Boas in many ways.

@foxracer4lyfe Your info said you joined youtube in 2007 so at least you've had your account for awhile but regardless, nice to meet you and especially someone else that likes the Boas.
Very cool very cool man!!! Thank goodness my snakes are only seven foot, id never be able to pick one of yours up!! haha even my little boas give me a hard time getting back in their enclosures .. maybe I need to hit the gym lol :)
@foxracer4lyfe Thanks :O) I only weigh 140 pounds and am only five foot nine but once out I can handle them one at a time. Will send you a link to one of my videos. @FIREBEAST12345 Boa Constrictor Occidentalis Appendix 1 Endangered Species C.I.T.E.S List. Also referred to as Argentine Boas because of their coloring and patterns. Natives of South america.
Those are large Boas. I have a Columbian Boa which Ive had for 15 years since a baby. No problems with him whatsoever. He's 7ft and weighs about 14lb so not a handful at all. It's amazing how easy going he is. Yours seem good as well. Is it normal for Argentine Boa's to grow to 11ft? or are yours just very large examples?
@BMWmotorsport47 You have to consider that other than Anaconda's being the largest of the Boa species the Boa Constrictor Occidentalis are the next largest of the Boa species. They have been documented at 14 feet long and well over a hundred pounds in captivity and I have a friend in South America that confirmed the wild species exceed 14 feet. Mine are only ten years old so still have plenty of room to grow :O) Argentine Boas aren't anything like the common Boa much different as far as needs.
@Sakura0754 Really? How many Boa Constrictor Occidentalis have you raised? If any then you realize they can get well over 100 pounds and up to 14 feet long. These aren't common Boas so obviously you don't know much about this species !!!
@Sarnamia Yes, indeed they are :O) Both 10 years old, at 11 feet now male and female. Also known as Boa Constrictor Occidentalis Appendix 1 Endangered Species C.I.T.E.S. list. Thank you sincerely for the nice comment !!! Boas are awesome and not enough money in the world to replace them. I'm going to try and breed them this year, hopefully.
And props back to you for them beautiful kids you've taken care of! Are they a common species in the pet trade? I used to have a pet shop and dealt with lots of wonderful snakes but I really don't recall ever seeing them specifically.
@birdguy888 They are natives of South America actually Boa Constrictor Occidentalis more commonly known as the Argentine Boas. Next largest species of Boa other than the Anaconda. They are Appendix 1 Endangered Species C.I.T.E.S List. Most breeders don't work with them because of their large size and because they are massive as adults so many people don't buy them because of their common size of 14 feet and exceeding 100 pounds. They can't be housed like common Boas.
@1softkiss I'm surprised people don't keep them considering a lot of people have retics and anacondas! LOL Kind of ironic, especially for them markings! Are they one of the "odd" species that requires any special care such has higher humidity or anything specific that makes them more difficult to keep in captivity, or is it just that massive size that deters some people? (I love the education I'm getting, thanks!)
@birdguy888 The T+ Albino Boa Constrictor Occidentalis are gorgeous also !! Oddly enough they are a lot easier to keep than the common Boas. They don't require high humidity nor high temps and are the ONLY snakes in existence that can tolerate a core temp of 50 degrees for any prolonged period of time and survive. They are a VERY strong and rugged snake and have been documented burrowing down as deep as 6 feet in the ground to survive winters and to destroy Degu dens to eat (Their natural food)
@1softkiss Whow! Now that is a hardy snake and with such adaptabilities you would naturally think they would be highly sought after by enthusiasts in the reptile world. Down to 50 degrees.....way low for a reptile, especially when most people keep their homes in the 70's and 80's!
@birdguy888 I've personally talked to a few people from South America and they said the snakes are VERY tough and rugged and aren't at all shy around people even in the wild. Just must be their natural demeanor because for the size my two are very calm and placid snakes. I lost power for three days and two nights last winter and they were the only snakes I had that didn't have to be real close to my stove and my propane heat panel for heat to sustain them and they did great.
@1softkiss I can only imagine how cool it would be to have such big, awesome snakes casually going through my yard looking for food or a place to rest. I watch the shows on Discovery where large snakes naturally live and I think they are so lucky to have them in their villages. Something we would never have happen in the US because everyone is ignorant to wild life and their true nature!
@birdguy888 Thank you :O) They are truly awesome and mine are so big it takes 3 adults to take each one outdoors so they seldom go out in the yard perhaps three times during the summer but sending you a link to a video that shows how I found a way to give them some freedom. I live alone and have raised all of my snakes along and in 50 years. My big female had my entire left forearm in her mouth two years ago and the bite did some nerve damage but is healing now nicely, but it was my own fault.
Hi Softkiss, very cool videos, I am not a snake person myself , however I am in awe of those who can touch them etc, I go into mild agitation if I see a slow worm in the wild here in the U.K,what is the title of this track also please?
@armadilopeter Thank you I appreciate the nice compliment ;O) The sound track information is in the info under the video itself and there is also a link to the artist page for this album and track. There are many people that fear snakes and my Mom had to be the biggest of them and still is LOL Why at a young age I learned to love and respect snakes so my parents wouldn't destroy them when they found one in our yard.
@1softkiss Thankyou for your reply and of course the track info is under the video, I must have been distracted by the snakes. I just went to Wikipedia to find out what LOL means, now I know , anyway pleasure to speak to you and I hope you have a pleasant day. Bye.
@armadilopeter Surely !!!! Glad I could help. Thanks for the compliment, my snakes for sure are attention getters. They are beautiful and really great for being such big snakes. Nice to meet you and again hope to hear from you again sometime :O)
@1softkiss Beautiful snakes!!! Love seeing them in such awesome condition. I run a small and exotic species rescue so as you can imagine I usually don't get to see animals in such great shape until I get them there! But, they are all worth the time, effort, money and vet care!!!
@birdguy888 Thank you sincerely :O) They have amazing temperaments and personalities for being such gentle giants now at 11 feet in length and the biggest babies. Just a bit spoiled naturally but then again all of my snakes are raised that way overwhelmed with attention, handling and freedom outside their enclosures. Every life is precious and props to you for what you're doing to make a difference and save lives !!!
I absolutely love your videos. I love your mindset towards snakes too. They really are peaceful beings. They are only protecting themselves if they bite, or they missed their food. And all they really need is a compassionate person to show them humans aren't a threat. Then they're big babies you can snuggle with haha. Beautiful boa btw!
@Eurostar710 Thank you SO much !!!! Snakes are great companions once they are worked with and realize humans aren't predators and I totally agree the only two bites that happen most often are from bad judgment calls from their handler. My snakes are my companions and all of them can be totally trusted around other people. Nosey my female and Grumpy my male are both at 11 feet now and still calm and big attention hogs LOL
I once came across a large snake in the wild here in TX when I was about 10 or 11. It must have been a large boa or an escaped python. It was descending out of a tree limb from above and seriously checking me out for lunch.
@shucky n the wild they have to struggle to survive and to eat because snakes also have predators in the wild. They eat when they can find food not like in captivity where they are fed constantly and never have to fight to survive so that helps resolve a lot of their defensive and aggressive actions.
@drunkclub Thank you !!!! I don't know why people always expect the worst from big constrictors they can be just as calm as a small snake. I don't take theses out alone by no means but they now have a huge three adjoined cage enclosure so they pretty much come in and out in warm weather. I live alone but still have my hands in the cage everyday and work with them. I adore Burms !!! Love their vocalizing !!!
i love snakes but dont you think that they are a bit big to handle? i keep med sized snakes such as red tail boas and a ball python my red tail is almost 10 feet long and ways about 56lbs i love him alot but he is a pain to take care of i can even imagine tyring to take care of grumpy and the other 1 lol. sorry for the double post i just made a dumb typo
@flopster133 No not at all :O) I have two other adults help me take them out usually but they can be taken out with one other person and just myself. I've raised them since babies so I have no problems with them. I will send you a link to another video that shows me handling my male. No worries with the double post, it happens i've done it myself LOL
@arsenaly9 I doubt a common Boa would ever reach this size because the Argentine Boas are one step down from the Anacondas in size at maturity but common Boas can reach up to eleven feet and these can get up to 14 feet so they still have some growing to do. Thank you for the wonderful compliment on Nosey and Grumpy ;O) I sent you a link in a message.
i love snakes but dont you think that they are a bit big to handle? i keep med sized snakes such as red tail boas and a ball python my red tail is almost 10 feet long and ways about 36lbs i love him alot but he is a pain to take care of i can even imagine tyring to take care of grumpy and the other 1 lol
@Qdawg116 Nice to hear from you :O) I've been hanging out catching up on some movies since all of my snakes are settling in for the winter ahead. Just watched one of my favorites for at least 100 times that I've watched it. I love "Drum Line".
What kind of snake is that? It doesn't look like a regular red tailed boa. Is the boa you have much bigger than a regular red tailed boa? Is that why the bit you got from the snake was so bad?
I am 20 years old, and I'm planning on raising a red tailed boa. Since I'm young, and I'm planning on getting a male red tailed boa, who are smaller, does that mean that if I ever do get bit, I wont be as heavily injured as you were? I wasn't aware a snake bite itself could cause so much damage. D:
@idonthatebabies They are Boa Constrictor Occidentalis. Endangered species list natives of South America Appendix 1 C.I.T.E.S. list. More commonly known as Argentine Boas and are the largest members of the Boa family other than the Anaconda. Argentine Boas can grow up to 14 feet and weigh over a hundred pounds. It was my bad judgment call that got me bit and in 10 years this was the first time she had bit anyone. The bite wasn't so severe except for the deep punctures that caused nerve damage.
@idonthatebabies you have to take into consideration I'm 5 foot 9 and weigh 130 pounds and wear a size four and a half ring so my forearm fit easily in my females mouth. I had to poke her in the roof of her mouth with two of my fingers to get her attention and as soon as she made eye contact with me she released. I still have some minor tremors in that arm and hand but nothing serious just annoying sometimes. She had injured herself and I hadn't considered that when I reached in to check her .
How big was the snake that bit you? And how old were you when you got bit? Seeing the results of the bite made me a bit more nervous about getting a large pet snake.
Do you think a regular male red tailed boa(maybe around 8 feet?) could injure a 6 foot tall man? I know I should always be careful around a large snake, but I want to know the risks.
@idonthatebabies She was 10 foot 4 inches and weighed 92 pounds and was only two years ago in July. There are risk with keeping any wild animal but the risk level is a lot higher for people that never take their snakes out and handle them or work with them because they will always remain defensive unless they learn that humans aren't predators through handling. Keep in mind snakes are aware of someones nervous aura when a person approaches a snake.
@idonthatebabies People that live in fear of getting bit by a snake shouldn't keep them because that means your nervousness is being read and interpreted by the snake. Anyone that chooses to raise snakes has to expect to get bit occasionally because we don't always read a snakes body language accurately. Snakes aren't dangerous and better off getting bit by them as juveniles handling them than waiting til they are adults because then the bite can be serious.
@xFreddyZorderx That's VERY common. Snakes feel like they have to defend their food and if they are fed in their enclosure they become even more cage defensive and aggressive. Once a snake goes into feeding mode they will strike at most anything around them. It's natural for a snake to defend it's food and it's enclosure. It doesn't have anything to do with the food being frozen thawed they are a lot worse if they are being fed live feeders. It's all part of their natural feeding response !!!
@zakor33 They sure are. Snakes don't have any reason to strike or attack people or other animals unless it's for their survival. Too bad we can't say the same thing for humanity :O)
@ARTLKING I was referring to the people that possess less than decent values and morals in this world. That's the part of humanity that makes the decent people ashamed to be associated with the bad ones.
Wow! What a BEAUTIFUL snake! Man, you must be proud to own such a gorgeous snake =) Sorry to hear about the bite, i hope you recover from it soon (if you haven't already). I'm also glad it hasn't spooked you into not handling snakes, that would be such a great shame. It's good you understand the error you made and haven't lost interest =D Please post more vids
@virgoblackx Thank you !!! actually it's my male and female. Nosey and Grumpy. I have a lot of their videos up actually. I still have nerve damage and tremors in my left arm and hand but it was my bad judgment call that got me bit so there's no reason to hold it against my snakes. They do what instinct has taught them to do :O)
@1softkiss Well, they are both beautiful. I would be very proud if they were mine, as i'm sure you are =) Just curious, but why did the snake bite you? What was the situation?
@pitterpatter221 They are Boa Constrictor Occidentalis also known as BCO's and Argentine Boas. They are Appendix 1 Endangered Species C.I.T.E.S. List. Thank You :O)
@evilcowboy Thank you sincerely !!!! They are both really awesome nut my female is very clam and laid back. My male just likes to threaten me once in awhile and he's very vocal. LOL
@1softkiss lol . Oh yeah I have one question where do you pick up feeders for your snakes I figured they eat other larger prey items. Where I live they want a lot of money for the larger prey animals. Just curious if you knew of any online stores for larger prey.
@evilcowboy I used to raise and breed all of my own feeders mostly Degus for my Argentine Boas and colossal rats for them and a couple other snakes. Since our summer weather hasn't been very consistent and it's not a good idea to breed them I get mine ordered through the local pet store from a reputable rat breeder or I have ordered them from Rodent Pro.
@1softkiss oh ok so bigger rats are fine for larger boas? Cause that was my concern with mine I got a larger columbian. Not nearly as large as yours but she is growing really good. I was concerned cause she can put down a guinea pig easily So I was concerned larger rats wouldn't cut it for her. And I don't want to feed guinea pigs due to them being fatty but it is really the only animal that will put a noticable lump in her.
@evilcowboy Actually based on fact I wouldn't feed large snakes Guinea Pigs. Their bone density is really thick and have proven to cause digestive problems as well as intestinal obstructions in big snakes. For the little nutritional value feeding them it hardly balances out with the risk. Some of my colossal rats are as big as rabbits so they are fine for feeders. Once in awhile I will give Nosey and Grumpy a smaller rabbit just for a change so they don't get bored with the same food item.
@MrJoshbritto Nope don't use that site at all. If I ever have it was many many years back probably beyond fifteen years back. LOL My Argentines are on Snakebytes sites but that's it other than youtube and a couple other forums. I wouldn't have any reason to post my snakes for Snakebytes.
@MrJoshbritto Send me a link to it please in a message curious now to see if someone else is posting pictures of my Argentines. May have been me ages back but like I said would have no reason to associate my boas with snakebytes even though Brian, Lori and the Crew are dear friends of mine.
@TMSreptiles No real pain but throbs and whole arm aches sometimes like a toothache but hand tremors get pretty bad and sometimes entire arm shakes. Some burning along the entire arm and numbness in my hand quite often. You got bit in your rear end by a boa? How did you manage that one? Not funny but it is funny sort of. :O) Thank you for asking !!!
i love large snakes no matter how misunderstood they are
they ARE still potentially dangerous but not as dangerous as say a large dog or a small agressive dog or even getting in a car
respect is what we all need to show reptiles not fear but i am thinking of getting a burmese python but my only concern is my life once he (yes he so it is considerably smaller than a female) but i will never handle a large snake alone again after i was attacked by my boa constrictor
@TMSreptiles We expect to get bit it's part of our hobby and usually it seldom happens without human error so it's wrong that so many people blame the snake for doing what comes natural to it. I was handling my big female two days after she had my entire forearm in her mouth and had no problems with it. I always consider the possibility I may get bit thus I'm less stressed out and nervous when I handle them and that's to any handlers advantage so they don't sense it. Sorry this happened to you.
OMG that rainbow shine is OUTSTANDING It brought an even bigger smile to my face! Thanks so much for the awesome dedication and for being such a wonderful friend! 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 Stars!
@cutegayjason Dang Jason LOL Thank you, but you well deserve the dedication after all you've been through. I'm SO glad I could be there to be a part of the birthing of the Green Tree Pythons and to be there with you for support. Get some BADLY needed rest and will catch you sometime today and again, thank you and Big Congratulations!!!
@RachelSnakes A M E N !!!!!!!! No better way to put the truth than you have in this comment. Humans kill out of greed and destroy their environment, not snakes!!! Thank you a ton!!! They are prehistoric technically because they have been here since the beginning of time. For those that are religious, the snakes were requested to be saved on the ark so why humans have such a problem with their existence on earth?
@1softkiss Another thing is, why would "God" allow such a creature to exist if it wasn't in his plan? Why even let "Satan" exist? Isn't he the supreme being? No wonder I'm atheist(I don't have problems with christians in general, until they start to try to convert people and turn nasty)
@jxz107 I don't do churches but I recognize the fact that mankind is by NO means the superior being in our existence and mankind is vulnerable, and thinks they are invincible so how can they rightfully say they believe in anything except themselves since their egos are so massive? Faith is a state of mind based on learning experiences in life in my opinion.
I really enjoyed Jasons show as well, Tho I was having bad latency issues last night. I cant wait to catch the next one! He has some amazing animals, and I really enjoy seeing him interact with the animals. He truely loves them, and its great seeing animals make someone so happy.
@prodigy5150 Jason and I have always had the same set of values when it comes to our hobby and snakes and that's what makes us the best of friends. We both give it our all and put our hearts into everything we do for our snakes. It's a DEEP love and dedication that takes years of experience for most to comprehend and it's great that you can see that in Jason as well as myself. Thank you for the comment and for watching :O)
@gerijuana Thank you SO much Gerry and you are 100% correct it's the handlers fault if they get bit just like it's their fault if the snake turns aggressive and antisocial. It takes constant work and dedication for sure. Thank you for watching and for rating but as always, I really love your comments they are SO positive and factual. We think a lot alike about our wonderful hobby!!!
@snakeman9090 I was there for most of it and if you go back to it, it shows my text in part of the log in the main window LOL It was awesome and I was SO happy to see this big moment for Jason after what he's been through lately. I came in probably after about the first half hour and stayed til Jason closed it.
@Tenderness6 Actually a friend in South America said there have been some documented over there at 14 feet in length so yeah, mine have some more growing to do LOL Thank you sincerely for the compliment!!!
@beckyls81 I made that mistake a few years back. 3 adults including me tried to put Nosey in the tub she freaked out and knocked all 3 of us on our asses LOL Never again !!! why they have an outdoor pool and filter in their 13 foot glass enclosure. I totally discourage people from putting snakes in bathtubs because it stresses them out and sets anyone up for a good strike and bite. Thank you for watching and for the nice compliment :O)
@1softkiss There have been times when I had to put Jasper in the tub because I didn't have a big enough bin (I do now), but I don't recommend it because of all the bacteria and cleaning chemicals. I bleached it before I put him in and then rinsed it out with hot water for a while. Jasper loves to soak though. He plays in the water for hours if I let him. He's the only one out of my 16 snakes like that. I have others that tolerate it and others that hate it.
@beckyls81 sometimes we have to and as we all know each snake has it's own personalities and some seriously don't like what others do. It's a trial and test method and a vital part of our learning about each of them. I've seen some really bad bites and wraps from big snakes in tubs on their handlers and Nosey sure let us know real fast she wasn't going to have it LOL
@beckyls81 I'm telling you I always hold the front and she turned and headed back out and slammed against me so hard it felt like someone picked up a two hundred pound man and slammed me in the chest. Bruised a couple of my ribs and the other two helping were on the floor with me and nosey piled on top of them because they had the back end. LOL NEVER AGAIN!!!! :O)
@beckyls81 Just caught me off guard why I lost my balance and I was on the floor with nosey in my arms on top of the other two laughing my ass off actually. The initial shock was spooky but she meant no harm to anyone so it was funny. Wish I had a video of it. Thanks :O)
jeese does that eat like 5 rabbits per feeding or smaller meals more often?

@birdguy888 I've personally talked to a few people from South America and they said the snakes are VERY tough and rugged and aren't at all shy around people even in the wild. Just must be their natural demeanor because for the size my two are very calm and placid snakes. I lost power for three days and two nights last winter and they were the only snakes I had that didn't have to be real close to my stove and my propane heat panel for heat to sustain them and they did great.
1softkiss 1 month ago
@1softkiss I can only imagine how cool it would be to have such big, awesome snakes casually going through my yard looking for food or a place to rest. I watch the shows on Discovery where large snakes naturally live and I think they are so lucky to have them in their villages. Something we would never have happen in the US because everyone is ignorant to wild life and their true nature!
birdguy888 1 month ago
@birdguy888 Thank you :O) They are truly awesome and mine are so big it takes 3 adults to take each one outdoors so they seldom go out in the yard perhaps three times during the summer but sending you a link to a video that shows how I found a way to give them some freedom. I live alone and have raised all of my snakes along and in 50 years. My big female had my entire left forearm in her mouth two years ago and the bite did some nerve damage but is healing now nicely, but it was my own fault.

Hi Softkiss, very cool videos, I am not a snake person myself , however I am in awe of those who can touch them etc, I go into mild agitation if I see a slow worm in the wild here in the U.K,what is the title of this track also please?
armadilopeter 2 months ago

Bye.

@1softkiss Beautiful snakes!!! Love seeing them in such awesome condition. I run a small and exotic species rescue so as you can imagine I usually don't get to see animals in such great shape until I get them there! But, they are all worth the time, effort, money and vet care!!!
birdguy888 2 months ago
@birdguy888 Thank you sincerely :O) They have amazing temperaments and personalities for being such gentle giants now at 11 feet in length and the biggest babies. Just a bit spoiled naturally but then again all of my snakes are raised that way overwhelmed with attention, handling and freedom outside their enclosures. Every life is precious and props to you for what you're doing to make a difference and save lives !!!
1softkiss 2 months ago
I absolutely love your videos. I love your mindset towards snakes too. They really are peaceful beings. They are only protecting themselves if they bite, or they missed their food. And all they really need is a compassionate person to show them humans aren't a threat. Then they're big babies you can snuggle with haha. Beautiful boa btw!
Eurostar710 2 months ago
@Eurostar710 Thank you SO much !!!! Snakes are great companions once they are worked with and realize humans aren't predators and I totally agree the only two bites that happen most often are from bad judgment calls from their handler. My snakes are my companions and all of them can be totally trusted around other people. Nosey my female and Grumpy my male are both at 11 feet now and still calm and big attention hogs LOL

I once came across a large snake in the wild here in TX when I was about 10 or 11. It must have been a large boa or an escaped python. It was descending out of a tree limb from above and seriously checking me out for lunch.
shucky 2 months ago
@shucky n the wild they have to struggle to survive and to eat because snakes also have predators in the wild. They eat when they can find food not like in captivity where they are fed constantly and never have to fight to survive so that helps resolve a lot of their defensive and aggressive actions.
1softkiss 2 months ago
@1softkiss Right, it's just what wild animals do that are predators. I don't blame them or any animal for that fact.

1softkiss 5 months ago
What kind of snake is that? It doesn't look like a regular red tailed boa. Is the boa you have much bigger than a regular red tailed boa? Is that why the bit you got from the snake was so bad?
I am 20 years old, and I'm planning on raising a red tailed boa. Since I'm young, and I'm planning on getting a male red tailed boa, who are smaller, does that mean that if I ever do get bit, I wont be as heavily injured as you were? I wasn't aware a snake bite itself could cause so much damage. D:
idonthatebabies 6 months ago
@idonthatebabies They are Boa Constrictor Occidentalis. Endangered species list natives of South America Appendix 1 C.I.T.E.S. list. More commonly known as Argentine Boas and are the largest members of the Boa family other than the Anaconda. Argentine Boas can grow up to 14 feet and weigh over a hundred pounds. It was my bad judgment call that got me bit and in 10 years this was the first time she had bit anyone. The bite wasn't so severe except for the deep punctures that caused nerve damage.
1softkiss 6 months ago
@idonthatebabies you have to take into consideration I'm 5 foot 9 and weigh 130 pounds and wear a size four and a half ring so my forearm fit easily in my females mouth. I had to poke her in the roof of her mouth with two of my fingers to get her attention and as soon as she made eye contact with me she released. I still have some minor tremors in that arm and hand but nothing serious just annoying sometimes. She had injured herself and I hadn't considered that when I reached in to check her .
1softkiss 6 months ago
@1softkiss
How big was the snake that bit you? And how old were you when you got bit? Seeing the results of the bite made me a bit more nervous about getting a large pet snake.
Do you think a regular male red tailed boa(maybe around 8 feet?) could injure a 6 foot tall man? I know I should always be careful around a large snake, but I want to know the risks.
idonthatebabies 6 months ago
@idonthatebabies She was 10 foot 4 inches and weighed 92 pounds and was only two years ago in July. There are risk with keeping any wild animal but the risk level is a lot higher for people that never take their snakes out and handle them or work with them because they will always remain defensive unless they learn that humans aren't predators through handling. Keep in mind snakes are aware of someones nervous aura when a person approaches a snake.
1softkiss 6 months ago
@idonthatebabies People that live in fear of getting bit by a snake shouldn't keep them because that means your nervousness is being read and interpreted by the snake. Anyone that chooses to raise snakes has to expect to get bit occasionally because we don't always read a snakes body language accurately. Snakes aren't dangerous and better off getting bit by them as juveniles handling them than waiting til they are adults because then the bite can be serious.
1softkiss 6 months ago
@xFreddyZorderx That's VERY common. Snakes feel like they have to defend their food and if they are fed in their enclosure they become even more cage defensive and aggressive. Once a snake goes into feeding mode they will strike at most anything around them. It's natural for a snake to defend it's food and it's enclosure. It doesn't have anything to do with the food being frozen thawed they are a lot worse if they are being fed live feeders. It's all part of their natural feeding response !!!

1softkiss 1 year ago
@1softkiss lol . Oh yeah I have one question where do you pick up feeders for your snakes I figured they eat other larger prey items. Where I live they want a lot of money for the larger prey animals. Just curious if you knew of any online stores for larger prey.
evilcowboy 1 year ago
@evilcowboy I used to raise and breed all of my own feeders mostly Degus for my Argentine Boas and colossal rats for them and a couple other snakes. Since our summer weather hasn't been very consistent and it's not a good idea to breed them I get mine ordered through the local pet store from a reputable rat breeder or I have ordered them from Rodent Pro.
1softkiss 1 year ago
@1softkiss oh ok so bigger rats are fine for larger boas? Cause that was my concern with mine I got a larger columbian. Not nearly as large as yours but she is growing really good. I was concerned cause she can put down a guinea pig easily So I was concerned larger rats wouldn't cut it for her. And I don't want to feed guinea pigs due to them being fatty but it is really the only animal that will put a noticable lump in her.
evilcowboy 1 year ago
@evilcowboy Actually based on fact I wouldn't feed large snakes Guinea Pigs. Their bone density is really thick and have proven to cause digestive problems as well as intestinal obstructions in big snakes. For the little nutritional value feeding them it hardly balances out with the risk. Some of my colossal rats are as big as rabbits so they are fine for feeders. Once in awhile I will give Nosey and Grumpy a smaller rabbit just for a change so they don't get bored with the same food item.

TMSreptiles 1 year ago
@TMSreptiles No real pain but throbs and whole arm aches sometimes like a toothache but hand tremors get pretty bad and sometimes entire arm shakes. Some burning along the entire arm and numbness in my hand quite often. You got bit in your rear end by a boa? How did you manage that one? Not funny but it is funny sort of. :O) Thank you for asking !!!

Anyway, it's very nice watching your boas move around, so relaxing. ^^
jxz107 1 year ago
i love large snakes no matter how misunderstood they are
they ARE still potentially dangerous but not as dangerous as say a large dog or a small agressive dog or even getting in a car
respect is what we all need to show reptiles not fear but i am thinking of getting a burmese python but my only concern is my life once he (yes he so it is considerably smaller than a female) but i will never handle a large snake alone again after i was attacked by my boa constrictor
my poor butt may never recover
TMSreptiles 1 year ago
@TMSreptiles We expect to get bit it's part of our hobby and usually it seldom happens without human error so it's wrong that so many people blame the snake for doing what comes natural to it. I was handling my big female two days after she had my entire forearm in her mouth and had no problems with it. I always consider the possibility I may get bit thus I'm less stressed out and nervous when I handle them and that's to any handlers advantage so they don't sense it. Sorry this happened to you.

1softkiss 1 year ago
@1softkiss Another thing is, why would "God" allow such a creature to exist if it wasn't in his plan? Why even let "Satan" exist? Isn't he the supreme being? No wonder I'm atheist(I don't have problems with christians in general, until they start to try to convert people and turn nasty)
jxz107 1 year ago
@jxz107 I don't do churches but I recognize the fact that mankind is by NO means the superior being in our existence and mankind is vulnerable, and thinks they are invincible so how can they rightfully say they believe in anything except themselves since their egos are so massive? Faith is a state of mind based on learning experiences in life in my opinion.

1softkiss 1 year ago
@1softkiss There have been times when I had to put Jasper in the tub because I didn't have a big enough bin (I do now), but I don't recommend it because of all the bacteria and cleaning chemicals. I bleached it before I put him in and then rinsed it out with hot water for a while. Jasper loves to soak though. He plays in the water for hours if I let him. He's the only one out of my 16 snakes like that. I have others that tolerate it and others that hate it.
beckyls81 1 year ago
@beckyls81 sometimes we have to and as we all know each snake has it's own personalities and some seriously don't like what others do. It's a trial and test method and a vital part of our learning about each of them. I've seen some really bad bites and wraps from big snakes in tubs on their handlers and Nosey sure let us know real fast she wasn't going to have it LOL
