What is the point of this video? This is perhaps the most useless thing I have ever watched on YouTube. Yes, the comic (and the film) is full of historical references. Thats on purpose.
@emadeloc What the hell are you talking about? The background is issues of Batman. Batman wasn't even mentioned in the Watchmen comic, Superman was Nite Owl's inspiration.
@WhenYouveGoneGuru Hell, that it's a reference introduced by filmmakers, not in the comic. They wanted we realized that Watchmen movie is an alternative universe of superheroes universe.
@emadeloc Nite Owl doesn't kill Joe Chill, Joe Chill doesn't exist in the Watchmen world. Were you talking about an alternative version of the opening credits? In the theatrical cut you see several issues of a batman comic behind Nite Owl as he knocks out an anonymous thief. Its not an alternate history of the DC universe its an alternate history of our universe. This applies both theatrically and in the publication.
And behind Nite Owl in the opening credits, there is a refence to this in the Batman posters on the wall behind him as he punches out the villan with the Colt 45.
@karbonus I'd be willing to wager Batman didn't exist as a publication in the Watchmen universe. After all Superhero comics dropped in popularity once costumed crime fighters showed up in real life.
Implied in the series that Silk Spectre and the Comedian hooked up briefly (affair). The Comedian is a very complex character. He's a rapist & murdering brute who also does have feelings (as witnessed by his emotional breakdown in Moloch's room). Interesting that he killed his unborn child (Vietnam sequence).
I remember their smiling face. But i am confused, in the movie i remember sally describe the affair with Comedian "is a mistake" (in quarrel with his husband & talking with her daughter in the end of the movie).
The film doesn't "explain" clearly how sally and comedian "falling in love". Is it explained clearly in the comic?
Anyway, sometimes story is surprising and interesting since it is not "reasonable". Thanks for your reply
0:47-48. I remember the intro of retirement of Silk. Silk is pregnant. And the posture of her husband and comedian is strange, what is the meaning? husband already know the father of the baby is comedian?
nite owl I is supposed to be preventing the death of bruce wayne's parents (standing in the background of the scene), therefore no batman in the watchmen reality.
Watch the movie again and watch the opening credits. The first image is Nite Owl and he's punching a guy with a gun and there are two people in the background watching. These two people are meant to be the parents of Bruce Wayne and the guy being punched is Joe Chill, the guy who killed them. Nite Owl aprehending Chill stops Batman from ever existng.
holy christ! i know that silhouette was a lesbian. I know she was killed for it. I am asking a simple question. this video shows the ACTUAL pictures from HISTORY in place of the pictures in the opening credit sequence of the Watchmen. I am asking, since the picture shown here and the scene from the movie are not the same, WHAT DOES THE "LESBIAN WHORES" reference? It isn't that subtle or complicated or donfusing of a question.
i understand one of the heroines was killed for being a lesbian. this montage take some of the "pictures" from that universe and shows the actual picture it was based on, like the Anola Gay which dropped little boy. the picture here of the "lesbian whores" is not the same as from the movie so i was asking what was the inspiration or reference to that shot.
it's the opening song to the movie "watchmen" with pics from the comic book and from past American history. I highly recommend the movie except it shows alot of naked men (semi- spoiler).
The "Lesbian Whores" graffiti reminded me of the words "Helter Skelter", that were written in blood on Sharon Tate's bedroom wall after she was slaughtered by the Manson Family
I couldn't find this image! I've been looking for it since I read your comment... Do you have it? (well, I read the words were written on the fridge...)
I don't know if there are actual pictures of it since they were crime scene evidence
I remember this from the movie "Helter Skelter", about the Manson murders.
In the movie those words were written in blood on the wall above the victim's bed, but since it was a movie they might have changed some facts to make it look better
There is one place where it's still being shown, but I won't point it out for fear of drawing attention to WB's legal team. You can probably find it with Google. If you can't, "Watchmen" should be out on DVD by the fall at the latest.
Hey, in this scene in the real movie, you know, in the opening credits, there is a short scene where a large number of hippies get shot by some kind of soldiers.
Was this a real historical event?
Can I find more about it anywhere on the internet?
It was an event that happens differently in the Watchmen universe. In the real world, there was a protest against the Vietnam War at the Pentagon where protesters placed flowers in the rifles, and no one was harmed.
While not a perfect fit, it could also reference the real Kent State Shootings, though those had violence committed by those on both sides of the issue.
so what kinda powers/abilities (if any) did the earlier guys (mothman, Dollar Bill, Capt Metropolis, Hooded Justice, etc) possess? Were they all basically normal, resourceful, strong people? Were any of them like Ozy?
They were, for all intents and purposes, just normal folks, albeit very physically fit and idealistic, who decided to take a stand against crime. True, they were very intelligent and cunning, but they were by no means superhuman.
