  • the organ sounding smooth, and you playing is grovye

    good work

  • Nice style. The hammond model you're playing leaves a lot to be desired, but you overcame it. Liked both your coices for songs. Played them more times than I can remember around the Detroit area in the 70's.

I remember sitting in for a weekend at a local bar who owned a B3 with Echoplex. Really died the first night! Learned never to play without trying something new before hand.

    Keep up the good work.

    Jerry

  • this organ sounds terrible compared to a Hammond! why did you buy it, may I ask?

  • Oh ! sorry you don't like it. I bought it because it has retro charm for me.But it just goes to show that one man,s trash is another's treasure. I like hammonds too and have owned several. I now have a Nord C1 which is lighter to gig with which has the Hammond sound spot on i think.

Have a listen to my nord videos. You might find them more up your street.

Thanks for your honesty all the same

  • Alan Haven , jesus, i rememeber him. walked into a club 1 night, he was playin' with Tony Crombie on drums. a real down & out place. great stuff. . ty for this

  • Beautiful, the sound takes me into another time when real jazz was played. Thank you for the walk down the lane.

  • Nice to see this style of playing has not died off. Reminds me of the old Brian Sharp on Hammond T200. I met Alan Haven years ago when the organ shop I worked at put on a concert at the South Pier in Lowestoft. He played a TechnicS U90 - Would have been nice if he'd brought the Crumar with him.

  • Hi,and thanks. He recently emailed me ,after watching my youtube stuff. Here it is

    Dear Jason,

. Interesting set-up you have, sounds real good.

My movements have been a bit unpredictable lately, and I am now also seriously cutting back on the travel. I think 50+ years on the road is quite long enough and I don't care too much for the hassle that goes with it now, particularly the flying bit.

    Warmest best wishes

    Alan Haven

  • @organaut In my opinion, Alan Haven had one huge glaring fault - he didn't know just how truly brilliant he was. I watch videos here on youtube of Klaus Wunderlich and Franz Lambert and they just make me want to kotz. Alan was so imaginative and had such great improvisation skills not to mention feel. I don't know who was responsible for marketing him but they made a real mess of it. Organ never got any better than Haven with Robin Jones and Tony Uter.

  • @kaferere Fortunately as far as I'm aware Alan Haven has still managed to be very successful over the years, especially being resident in Las Vegas for quite a while.

I think Klaus Wunderlich has been the most successful electronic organist ever though. There will never be anyone to shine over him as regards that style of playing. Alan was successful mainly in the jazz world

  • Enjoyed the video! Are the chord changes to lil darlin the same as satin doll?

  • No.not really as I play "Satin Doll" in the key of 'C'Major and the opening chord would be Dm7 then followed by G7 and alternating where as lil' Darlin I Play in "F Major" key and the opening chord is a 'G9. Hope this helps!

  • Great performance and very nice sounds! Mikefox, from Italy.

  • Great

  • Thanks, glad you like it.The organ is a Crumar 103(Haven) It was the flagship back in 1974 pioneered, designed and played by one of the uk best jazz organ players Alan Haven(I don't know what he would think if he saw these videos though) I've just recently uploaded a new video demo of this organ if you want to know more.

  • Absolutely amazing sound and playing, man! I had never even heard of Crumar organs, just happened to find your videos when browsing for some Crumar Performer related stuff. What model is the organ you're playing? Man, never heard an organ sounding so much like Hammond than Hammond itself. :)
