  • What he said

  • Bought the record when it came out. Those were great times. People have no idea about how punk infulenced everything thats followed.....

  • @jimineycricket0 Yes, most do.

  • @jimineycricket0

    I agree 100%.

  • They've also influenced the likes of Mission of Burma. Vs. by MOB is an extraordinary cd.

  • rather delicious

  • As I've been getting more into Wire, I'm seeing how they influenced Fugazi (which I also love)

  • Influenced Fugazi and, earlier, the Minute Men. Like those bands, Wire evolved continuously over the years. Completely free thinking, creative group.

  • man i loved this band when i was a kid.

  • that was not yesterday, I guess.

Amazing that they still tour and did not change in any way.

When did they start, early 80's?

  • hmmm-1977-78. Probably 1977.

  • Awesome!

  • not the same, things change yeh, but i've grown up with punk and i would like the same as it ever was

  • where's BRUCE GILBERT?

  • Unbelievable the intensity they can still deliver!! The last time I saw them was in 1986. 20+ years later they can put to shame 90% of the bands that are half their age. Well done!

  • how is this intense in any way?

  • I see. At 22 years of age, you have amassed the wisdom of the ages to proclaim this performance is not intense.

    1. Did you even watch the whole video?

    2. The dynamics of a Wire show consist of tension, build up and release - all excellently displayed in this video.

    3. They use more than the 2 chords you are used to hearing in bands you like.

Just go back to listening to your "I love 80's hardcore" of which you "don't know half the bands" and don't waste your time on THIS "no name" band.

  • Hold on, you are making so many assumptions right now. I love Wire, otherwise I wouldn't be watching this video. I like how you generalize my taste in music by two videos that you saw in my favorites, when really I listen to many types of music from many genres. What I meant was that, compared to many of Wire's performances, this is not very intense.

  • Good start in making your point, my friend, in all of your messages, but from your third point on, it just gets pretty harsh.. you gotta give a little to the youngun's, they are after all in the same shoes you were in when you were that age.. perhaps he should just go and burn all his music and give up since he's not from your era?

  • Great idea!!

DS you have a valid point. I'll go a little easier on 'em, lol...

  • yep. if you can get ian mackaye going than you've pretty much got it goin on

  • Wow, they are still really really good!

  • It is sad that so little interest has been shown in this milestone band.

  • Its not sad, its refreshing.

  • @slavnotslave

so sad when their obvious influence can be traced all around them and all who followed, influenced all from minute men, volcano suns, mission of burma, uk bands from killing joke to jah wobble!!!

    true pioneers

  • @slavnotslave Indeed, seems a shame that Joy Division are seen as so seminal (dont get me wrong I like them a lot) and WIRE are totally ignored by most.

  • @slavnotslave only good looking people get mainstream attention, sides, who wants it. rather hear legit talent.

  • @slavnotslave I wouldn't say Wire have been ignored! They have had a massive influence on the direction of 'alternative' music and even crossover into mainstream pop. They were one of the few UK bands rated by the US hardcore scene and their 154 and Chairs Missing LPs showed what could be done with pop music without becoming lame or cliched. They were probably the top influence on a lot of indie music in the UK in the 1990s and had been steadily coming up since about 1982. Highly rated band!

  • Such a great show last night. Your video's better than mine, as I was stuck in the back.

  • argh i wanted to go to this...but couldn't make it there and then to apes and androids. oh well. Apes and androids rocked bowery ballroom! check out my vid!!! giant monsters in the finale, to "Hey Jude"!! for sheezy!
