hey nice videos man. i hear what your saying about music theory i can play a handfull of songs with the slide from transcribing but like you say if you dont understand what your hitting and where your going. its alot harder i know a few scales but when you tune to open tunings they go out the window. ive been playing slide around 6-7 months. any advice on where to start or where i could get sum theory from would be greatly appreaciated.andy
@pretty9reenpark4 Hey Andy, opening tunings actually are a lot easier to learn theory wise. Harder to build chords because there are only 3 strings really. Alot of of slide, advanced slide, is on single strings, Derek trucks for instance, a lot of his most complicated licks are all on one string or the combination of. You gotta start off learning some scales, but afterwards, you have to learn how to blend them all together.
@jsl209 Sometimes I just focused on learning a set of scales on 1 string, up the entire fret board, do that for the E, G#, and B strings, and it will all make a lot more sense, you will learn where you can end/begin, etc. Also it is better to think in terms of intervals rather then notes, notes are arbitrary really, intervals tell you how a position in a scale relates to its root note, and is alot more useful when improving. Over time you will know what a 3rd, 5th, 6th, etc sounds like.
For a guy that is just learning the slide brother you jammed it. Great improv!!!! The middle was a little muddy on the scale but you will be a great slide player at this rate!!!!!
I know squat about slide guitar dude..I know a little about phrasing....when you are at the low end of the scale and the high end it sounds really cool...the middle is a little blurred...I'm not sure maybe slow down a bit and accent more separation....my 2 cents...for the most part pretty cool. I just started electric blues about a month ago...keep it up.....at least I can recognize the key and the style :) cheers
this is really good
