you need to re-design the cableing! all that bulk makes the install look ghetto! There are 90 degrees connectors available for the ipad 30 pin connector as well as 3.5m audio connectors. so that would all for smaller ball joints and not make the ipad stick outso much from the bezel, giving the look a more OEM finish.

I would totally replace my car stereo for an iPad system if the controls were there. Not really into this one because it sticks out too much, you could easily hit it when you are turning fast or switching gears(i.e. reverse, etc.) Also, the wires are a bummer, if I was going to do this, I would totally go all the way and get the in dash install kits. Plus, Pioneer & Alpine should make apps for this that are able to control your system more, i.e. subwoofer fontrol, etc.

Scosche has been quiet for a long time on this but they did say many months ago that this kit wasn't going into production. Sorry to dash anyone's hopes. If you are looking for an iPad-in-car solution, get a good stereo with aux or USB in the front and then invest in something like the pro clip system.

The dock connector looks a bit chunky sticking out of the side, detracting from an otherwise quite elegant in-car iPad solution. It would be really cool if you developed a dock connector plug that doesn't stick out, but bends behind the iPad, kinda in a 'L' shape, so the connector would be hidden, that would be slick, and I know you guys could do it! Hey Scosche folks, great idea. I don't use my radio much anyway, this looks pretty clean. So, yes I would be willing to nix my radio for the mount. What about power for the speakers? Will the iPad have enough oomph? Give me a holler when you have one; I'd also be willing to beta test for you. I'll be driving a Nissan Versa 1.8 S soon. Perhaps you should put us interested parties on an email list to notify us of availability. See my next post for an improvement.

Idea 4u: Because cars vary as to wear environ controls and such are located, folks will need to move the iPad around more to accommodate access. Add an articulating arm, basically a balljoint extension arm; so 3 ball joints total (at car mount, iPad mount, & joining the two arms. but look at other non-auto articulating stands & mounts for good design ideas. Arm would allow greater distance of travel in 3 dimensions, especially z-axis; it'd b handy to move iPad 6" closer to u for extended use.

Texting is already a big enough issue don't give someone a huge thing to watch movies on our surf the web with while driving. Hey guys at Scosche, An improvement suggestion I have is make these kind of things for single DIN radios, AND make some that go over aftermarket radios that people already have and have them mount to the dash boards of cars instead of replacing the whole head unit, it can just plug into it's USB and aux in ports.

IMPROVEMENT SUGGESTION:

Create different sized plastic holders that can be used for not only the current gen ipad but also the iphone 4, 3GS, ipod touch, or 4th gen ipod. So for those people that complain that this thing is too obtrusive when connecting the ipad, you could still use it with those smaller devices. This seems like an obvious suggestion and hopefully someone at Scosche has thought about this already.

I have WiFi iPad, wouldn't depend on it for GPS, wouldn't want the data plan for mobile Internet access, way too bulky to want it on my dash or sticking up over the top of it like this installation does. If I wanted a big screen on my dash I'd buy an aftermarket nav/backup cam Bluetooth gizmo. Just don't see iPad filling those functions yet.

IMPROVEMENT SUGGESTION:

Make the iPad tray have the dock connector integrated in it so that while inserting iPad, it snaps into connector which is embedded in the plastic tray and comes out of the ball socket itself as a proprietary connector you create with a form factor similar to a 3.5mm with extra pins for the power. That cable can come thru the socket connector and into a female jack in the ball joint itself.

I also have a recommendation - move the ball joint off-center and more positioned over to the right or make the arm something that can be adjusted and moved. Even in the demo video, it looks like the ipad is getting in the way of the steering column. A few inches over could make a big difference for some vehicles.

Suggestion: Assuming this works with the 3G/3GS and 4, make a smaller plastic holder. So many complaints here from people thinking the ipad would be a distraction, doesnt seem like a stretch to make this compatible with the kit.

I don`t see what it actually does? Charges your ipad and plays your music on the car stereo? Most new car stereos have a usb connection that lets you do that. So this is just usefull as a mounting kit.
