  • this was part of a disastrous line-up for NBC, they would languish at no. 3 for years until the mid 80s, when Family Ties, Different Strokes, the Cosby Show brought them back from the dead...

  • wow porno music lol

  • 0:18 WTF something for the ladies?

  • Was it the law that every series in the 1970's had to feature Roddy McDowell? Seriously though, I loved this but it was on BBC1 on a Friday early evening and I used to miss the end of every episode because I went to Scouts. This was before we had a video so it was a case of: tough luck! Loved it though.

  • I remember almost nothing of this series, other than the actor's name Jared Martin, and the strange device he used; a schoolfriend made himself a replica in wood. :) Not too shabby, either.

  • Thanks for uploading this. I remember the programme from the 70s but I thought I was dreaming, because I've never seen anything about it anywhere since. It was only after seeing Jared Martin in War of the Worlds on the Horror channel, that I was able to find the name of this programme & find it here. Now I know I wasn't imagining things. Thanks :)

  • 0:40 CATS RULE

  • It's by US jazzman Robert Prince. He was pigeon holed as a TV movie/series composer so none of his music has ever been worth releasing in America that is.

  • i used to watch this show. it was ok.

  • This show was written by DC Fontanna from Star Trek if I am correct.

  • In alot of markets FJ was pre-empted by local sports games, and presented on Sundays at 4pm, around our area it was. That really hurt it. Later, the first two eps were edited into a 90min movie called LOST IN TIME that was syndicated in the 80's and 90's to local channels showing movies, etc. I suspect someday this will find it's way to DVD via Sony's DVDRs to order which seems to be the studios new way of distributing old shows/films.

  • The Fantastic Journey never had a chance. The Waltons on CBS crushed this show in the Nielsen ratings and NBC canceled The Fantastic Journey after ten shows.

  • NEED this theme song!!!

anyone have a good copy of it???

  • @kotep777

Ha! You can hear it, too, huh?

  • @MarsNova yes!!! you got any idea if its from a library record or something? like kpm or de wolfe?

  • @kotep777

Not to my knowledge--still trying to dig up the source. It's totally got that library music sound to it, though--I bet you're right.

  • Hi,

I haven 't watched this video for more than 30 yrs

What I remember as a kid in the Fantastic Journey is that there is bad man and at the end in which someone transform him as a baby.

I wonder if there will be another remake of this show like previously BSG

I have become an independant traveller and went abroad into the Twilight Zone.

    Shall I return in the 70s ?

  • Sil-El

Lianna's companion and pet (a cat she can communicate with telepathically), and sometimes scouts for Lianna (being an extra set of eyes and ears).

  • RIP Katie Saylor

    RIP Roddy Mac Dowall

  • This show was great and deserved a better fate.

  • I watched this every week as a kid...I thought Jared Martin's character was the coolest.

  • Did anyone watch the War of the World series?Jared Martin was the lead scientist and he used a tuning fork to Meditate!Always reminded me of Varian

  • LOVE IT. I remember this a s a kid. Thank you for posting!!!!!!

  • Dammit I MISS the 0s, everything was so much cooler then. I was 7 when this came out. I vaaaguely remember the intro. There were only 10 episodes made.

  • Ike Eissenmen...Now that's a name I haven't heard in a long long time. Who did the music? Sounds like Bob James.

  • a great show!

  • This was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid!!

  • Now I know where they borrowed 'Lost' from. lol

  • why is it not on dvd?

  • @thedukeofantioch

It is , but on BOOTLEG!

  • @draxx77 id get it.

  • @thedukeofantioch

I got it, it is not that bad, someone recorded it from the Sci fi channel.

  • @thedukeofantioch

I watched this show growing up. The reason it never went to DVD was there where only I believe about 6 episodes and with such a small amount they most likely would never get there money back and this is true of many 70's short run shows

  • @newgun2000 i remember watching it too.i loved it.be nice of the whole series was on youtube and veoh.

  • @thedukeofantioch Or Hulu

  • i got a copy from a web page in usa.for classic tv series.cost about 35 dollars worth it though it was a really good series

  • i remember this show !!!! but i cant remember if they ever got home, did they?

  • The 70's

    When big collars Really mattered!

  • oui vous avez raison ! Moi j'ai bien connu cette époque j'étais ado, tout le monde avait les cheveux longs et des pattes d'eph !

  • This is one of my favorite sci-fi shows.

  • Take me back to 1977!!! I loved this show, and saw every episode of it. I was 11 years old at the time.

  • these retro clips make me wanna go back to live in the 70s and forget 2009 and beyond!

  • @EyeWearMySunglasses

Agree. But will you forgo all the technologies and gadgets that you owned now?

  • @EyeWearMySunglasses

Good luck communicating with Youtube on the electric telephone. I'll give you a whole pound note if you manage it.

  • Thia was a great show and the stories were good and a theme tune to give you shivers down your spine!! Roddy McDowall RULES!!

  • Party at Roddy Mc Dowel'sl house

Jokes aside that's the funkiest intro ever and there was some stiff competition in the 70s

  • Funkiest intro = Space 1999

But I loved this show, even though I was only 5.

  • I remember so little of this apart from Varian with his gadget and Willoway who was just delightfully quirky. At six years old, I didn't understand it at all but really enjoyed it as they went from zone to zone trying to get back to 1977 ... Wonder if there's some way I can get back there?!

  • I was 9 when this show was on tv. A buddy and I actaully made a gadget like that using clear ballpoint pen casings, a flashlight and some pink fingernail polish. We ruled!

  • I was six, and I tried making it out of Lego. Your ballpoint pen idea sounds much better.

Anyone have a copy of this series?

  • probably one of the greatest theme tunes ever made, jesus i used to love this show when i was a nipper......yeah, i think jj abrahams may have watched an episode or two of this

  • Loved this when I was a kid.

  • Did LOST steal some ideas from this show?

  • Is this the series that showed them all standing at the opening of some kind of cave at the end? And do they pick people up along the way - some just for one episode, some stay for the entire series? i was young and it's vague - help?!

  • Hi Barnstormer1969 I too have been trying to find more of what happened to Katie Saylor. Sadly, information on the web is both virtually non existant & what there is both vague & contradictory. What I do know is that she is supposed to have become ill at sometime during filming of the series. After which she is supposed to have died, thouugh I can find no clear information when this happened. One version is shortly afterwards another she died sometime in the 1980's or 90's. I

  • Does anyone know what happened to Katie Saylor? She just seemed to vanish off the planet!

  • I heard that she left the show because she was diagnosed with cancer. Eventually, she passed away, but I don't know exactly when.

  • That's a good question

  • this show was so awesome(of course i was just nine). really got ur imagination going.

  • I remember the giant, pulsating brain...thing... the characters had to place their palms on the brain...thing's... glass covered dome, to transfer their energy to it.

I'm almost 40 now, and I still can't forget. Is that clip here somewhere?

  • So thats where they copied the music from for Deal or No Deal !!!

  • I always wanted to see it, but the NBC station in Tampa/St. Petersburg ran the syndicated Space:1999 instead. Why couldn't I have had my cake and eat it to? Sigh.

Of course in today's world there is such a glut of SF show after SF show, on hundreds of cble stations, DVD collections, and, oh yes, YOUTUBE. It is truly a Brave New World.

  • Better than Lost. Get the dvd of the 10 episodes. D.C. Fontana and company---Star Trek!

  • When I first saw LOST, I thought of this show that I saw as a kid. I thought I was the only one who still remembered it. I'm glad I'm wrong!

  • It is on bootleg DVD!

  • I loved this show as a kid. I remember it being on when I was on school holidays. I think it only had one series and was really unhappy when it finished abruptly. The first episode was so straight forward and then it changed and got more interesting with each episode. I thought Carl Franklin was so cool! the music was very creepy!!!!

  • Loved this show. The 70's scifi show were the best.I saw the Escape To Witch Mountain remake with the Rock(actually it was good).Ike had a part in it as a sheriff,so did the girl that played Tia,his sister

  • Iliked this sow rememberSusan Howard(Donna in Dallas)was in the pilot, also Leif Ericson, then were meant to get home,so weren;t in the TV series.

  • love the tune !

  • I remember this rubbish used to be on early evening - check out the collars !!!

  • wow i remember this

  • I wanted to be like varian healing people with his magic fork

  • The only thing I remember about this is the kid Ike Eisenmann, but I guess I was a kid at the time of broadcast too.

  • It'd be interesting to see some episodes of this show (which I don't remember at all), to see how similiar to Sliders it is. The whole idea of travelling from inter-dimensional travel or going from one universe to another is a very old concept in science fiction.

Check out Robert Heinlein's Number Of The Beast (written in the late 70's) for one of the better stories on the subject.

  • Yes, it was alot like Sliders. the show was based on different people from different time periods meeting in the bermuda triangle. every week the group would "slide" to different places. I was 13 when the show aired, & I think it was only on for a couple of years. It was a cool show to watch, I'm trying to track it down on DVD, so if anyone knows where to get it please post where, Thanks

  • I nerver seen this show. Ws it like Sliders?

  • I'd forgotten all about this show!! I remember it being on every morning during the school holidays. I always fancied Jared Martin! Pleased he got a job in Dallas in later years. I'd love to be able to watch it all again!

  • lol, I had the exact same reaction. I forgot this show completely but loved it as a kid. I preferred Katie tho. :P Now blender1970 is probably right, the production levels were really really low for scifi shows on tv back then but while I may not remember specific shows I do remember it was fun to watch as a kid.Not everything has to be great, just taking a kid on a cool adventure is enough sometimes.

  • This tv show it is really fantastic. Carl is a great actor. The other guys too, but he`s my friend, and friends are allways the best.

  • dose anyone know where i can find these episodes ? I looked every where no video stores have them

  • net flix has ark ll and isis out now with more to come

  • Hey. Try IMDB, there`s a lady who is trying to get together all videos. Search in the messages. Look for Carl Franklin information.Joao Lopes

  • All this and Roddy McDowell, too! Stupid networks only gave it a season. Thanks for the memory!

  • Jared Martin slipped through a portal and ended up in Southfork Ranch.

  • LOL!!!

  • If they put this show on DVD, I'd buy it!

  • I'd buy it too.

This was one of my favorite shows as a kid !

    What memories !

  • Hmm... sort of sounds sort of like what would come of a Lost/Sliders combination.

  • I bet J. J. Abrams (Lost writer) saw this when he was a child. :)

  • Can Someone upload the Original Vortex Pilot Intro Music on the boat It is much softer and uses piano at points A great piece of music This show wouldn't have been as good without it's magic music score

  • You are correct about the music, it makes the show, especially those creepy scenes with that frightening music! It still creeped me out when I heard it for the first time after 30 years, LOL! We can contact La La Land records and request the theme and score, they put out CDs of old TV shows like these!

  • I remember this, it looks like 'LOST' is a rip off, of this 70s classic

  • Well, if lost were really really cheese and bad.

  • You're brain dead...

  • Yeah, this show looks pretty awful.

  • My Dear. Certainly you haven`t assisted any of those shows. They were great. Trust me.

  • No, they weren't I was there. I remember this shit!

  • yeah I loved this too, how long did it last? wish it would come out on dvd

  • I LOVED THIS SHOW!!

  • Jared Martin as Varian with his magic tuning fork LMAO :) loved this show as a kid in the 70`s

  • So thats where the idea for sliders came from.

  • This was a great show! Thanks for posting ;-D

  • loved this show.had not seen it in years and even this opening scene brought back a lot of good memories ,Thanx for posting it

  • i want to see it on dvd!!!!

  • Thank you for posting this. Petition for its DVD release at petitiononline (DOT) com/TFJDVD/

Jared Martin and Ike Eisenmann will be reunited this fall at Cult TV Weekender (UK). Go to cult tv website.

(Trying this again, as my previous comment intended for this video went back to the Ike Eisenmann video. Weird!)

  • warlockvideos /fantastic html, try hear i came accross this by accident

  • Can you find this series for sale anyplace?

  • Look around the net, there are people selling region 0 DVD's, that's the only way your gonna get this series for the forseeable.

  • One of my favourite shows ever. I so loved this, in the 70's, and when it was shown again on a cable channel here in the UK about 10 years or so ago, I taped them all to keep. I watched them all again recently and still loved it as much. Such a shame it was so short lived and they didn't make more episodes.

  • classy...

  • I really enjoyed this short lived series. Thanx for uploading this.

  • This was a great show. It should have lasted a lot longer. I really enjoyed watching it. The cast was fantastic

  • Looks like Sliders copied right off of these guys!

  • That comment is right on the money.

  • I agree 100%

  • Part2. Her career never seemed to recover after her illness during the filming of this series. Perahps she just found something else to do? She was also in the cult moive Invasion of the Bee Girls 1973 where she played Gretchen Grasowsky. http://www.cult.tv/index.php?cm_id=80&cm_type=article http://www.snowcrest.net/fox/journey/index.html

  • @fabster3333 i love the kitty.one of the girls in you only live twice married serious money and the other one was on a talk show for years in japan

  • Comment Part1. During her roll on this series Katie became very ill and was hospitalized for a while. Her character was written out of the last two episodes and se was explained away as having stayed behind to help set up a the new government at the end of Turnabout. The cat evidently stayed in that zone with her.

  • Wow thanks for uploading this. This was an amazing short lived series from the people who went on to make Buck Rogers.I wonder what ever happened to Katie Saylor, I was sad as a kid when she left the adventurers before the end of the series.
